Doc Loses License In Baby Murder Case

From a sympathetic CNN:

Pierre Jean-Jacques Renelique

Doctor loses license in live birth abortion case

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) — A doctor’s license was revoked Friday in the case of a teenager who planned to have an abortion but instead gave birth to a baby she says was killed when clinic staffers put it into a plastic bag and threw it in the trash.

The doctor, Pierre Jean-Jacques Renelique, was not present when the baby was born, but the Florida Medical Board upheld Department of Health allegations that he falsified medical records, inappropriately delegated tasks to unlicensed personnel and committed malpractice…

The state attorney’s office, meanwhile, said its criminal investigation into the incident is ongoing and no charges have been filed. A fetus born alive cannot be put to death even if its mother intended to have an abortion, police said when the incident occurred in 2006.

The baby’s mother, Sycloria Williams, sued Renelique, the clinic and its staff in January, seeking damages.

She alleges in her suit that "she witnessed the murder of her daughter" and said she "sustained severe emotional distress, shock and psychic trauma which have resulted in discernible bodily injury." …

According to the suit, Williams, then 18, discovered while being treated for a fall that she was 23 weeks pregnant. She went to a clinic to get an abortion on the morning of July 20, 2006, after receiving medication and instructions the previous day.

Renelique was not at the clinic, however, and Williams was told to wait for him. She was given two pills and told they would make her ill. When she complained of feeling ill, clinic staff members gave her a robe and told her to lie down in a patient room, the suit says.

Renelique was still not present when Williams "felt a large pain" and delivered a baby girl, according to the suit.

"The staff began screaming and pandemonium ensued. Sycloria watched in horror and shock as her baby writhed with her chest rising and falling as she breathed."

A clinic co-owner entered the room and used a pair of shears to cut the baby’s umbilical cord, the suit said. She "then scooped up the baby and placed the live baby, placenta and afterbirth in a red plastic biohazard bag, which she sealed, and then threw bag and the baby in a trash can."

Staff at the clinic did not call 911 or seek medical assistance for Williams or the baby, the suit said.

Renelique arrived at the clinic about an hour later and gave Williams a shot to put her to sleep. "She awoke after the procedure and was sent home still in complete shock," the suit said.

Police were notified of the incident by an anonymous caller who told them the baby was born alive and disposed of.

"The complainant [Williams] observed the baby moving and gasping for air for approximately five minutes," according to a police affidavit requesting a search warrant for the clinic.

Two search warrants found nothing, but officers executing a third warrant "found the decomposing body of a baby in a cardboard box in a closet," the suit said.

The baby was linked to Williams through DNA testing, the lawsuit said. An autopsy showed it had filled its lungs with air prior to death…

How many sick aspects of this story can you count?

Not the least being that Ms. Sycloria Williams is suing for damages.

Loss of a medical license should be the least of the penalties here.

    From a “surprised” AP:

Lawsuit: Florida Clinic Botched Abortion, Threw Out Live Baby

TAMPA, Florida — Eighteen and pregnant, Sycloria Williams went to an abortion clinic outside Miami and paid $1,200 for Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique to terminate her 23-week pregnancy.

Three days later, she sat in a reclining chair, medicated to dilate her cervix and otherwise get her ready for the procedure.

Only Renelique didn’t arrive in time. According to Williams and the Florida Department of Health, she went into labor and delivered a live baby girl.

What Williams and the Health Department say happened next has shocked people on both sides of the abortion debate: One of the clinic’s owners, who has no medical license, cut the infant’s umbilical cord. Williams says the woman placed the baby in a plastic biohazard bag and threw it out.

Police recovered the decomposing remains in a cardboard box a week later after getting anonymous tips.

“I don’t care what your politics are, what your morals are, this should not be happening in our community,” said Tom Pennekamp, a Miami attorney representing Williams in her lawsuit against Renelique and the clinic owners.

The state Board of Medicine is to hear Renelique’s case in Tampa on Friday and determine whether to strip his license. The state attorney’s homicide division is investigating, though no charges have been filed. Terry Chavez, a spokeswoman with the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office, said this week that prosecutors were nearing a decision.

Renelique’s attorney, Joseph Harrison, called the allegations at best “misguided and incomplete” in an e-mail to The Associated Press. He didn’t provide details.

The case has riled the anti-abortion community, which contends the clinic’s actions constitute murder.

“The baby was just treated as a piece of garbage,” said Tom Brejcha, president of The Thomas More Society, a law firm that is also representing Williams. “People all over the country are just aghast.”

Even those who support abortion rights are concerned about the allegations.

“It really disturbed me,” said Joanne Sterner, president of the Broward County chapter of the National Organization for Women, after reviewing the administrative complaint against Renelique. “I know that there are clinics out there like this. And I hope that we can keep (women) from going to these types of clinics.”

Of course, the AP declines to report that our Dear President voted three times against laws that would have required infants born in cases like this receive medical care.

The amazing thing about Sterner’s comment is that in this case it’s mere inches that define the difference between life and death; she’d defend to any length imaginable the right of the doctor to kill that exact same child as long as it hadn’t completely cleared the birth canal, but as soon as it’s out it’s somehow “disturbing” to her.

  2. pdsand says:

It doesn’t mention anything about the lawsuit being a wrongful death complaint.

    • pinandpuller says:

Well is it wrongful death or malpractice? I mean, the baby died outside the magic box so now its murder? Those abortionists sure walk a fine line.

So did this guy get his degree in Haiti or what? Killing the babies Americans won’t?

  3. jrmcdonald says:

Isn’t this what Obama wanted? He voted for it.

  4. wardmama4 says:

And I hope that we can keep (women) from going to these types of clinics

Isn’t that the same line (adjusted for clinic to be back-ally abortionist) that led us to this spot decades ago and wasn’t it suppose to be Roe v Wade that would end such disturbing butchery?

Never mind that this story is such a rich target environment for oh so many failed/failures of Liberal policies (not the least of which is why is 18 year old Ms Williams paying $1200.?!? – which from this lawsuit she will probably get back in spades) but when can rational Americans have the right to say Enough. Stop stealing my tax dollars for such failed/failing policies?!? Hopefully (damn I used a The One ™ word) – it will be the Generational Theft Act of 2009 that will be the tipping point.

BTW, for a statistical fact. Since Ms Williams is on the msms guess the race game – I’d bet she is black. Which given the prematurity of her baby – would actually increase the baby’s chances of survival as black females head the list of survival of premature births. . .(this is one area being white is not an advantage at all – white females are near the bottom, white males are at the bottom)

  5. silver charm says:

Actually, the babymomma is white. Poor thing looks like she’s lived a pretty rough life (rode hard and put up wet too many times).

What amazes me is the whole concept that it was ok for the doctor to shred the living child and bring it out in pieces, but somehow shocking and criminal for the baby to succomb to neonatal abuse and neglect immediatly after it’s birth. Where’s the difference? And why is anyone amazed at the actions of the nurse and staff? These are people who kill babies as a career choice.

In the “bad old days”, before Roe vs Wade, 89 to 92% of abortions where performed by doctors or midwives. Many of these ghouls actually had criminal cases pending from women who died under their “reproductive care”, when Roe vs Wade was passed the charges where dropped and they went on to open abortion clinics. Less than 2% of abortions where performed by persons with no medical training. The women strewn about alleys dying of coathanger abortions is a myth of the abortion industry.

  6. grits says:

“The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” As do the cast and crew at CNN, AP and NOW. What silly, squeamish people!

The lady paid $1200 to off her baby. She got what she paid for – just in the reception room instead of more private accommodations in the back. According to the Deputy Attorney General designate, she’ll soon look back on the moment with joy and relief.

Perhaps the court should award her a partial refund for the inconvenience of having to see what she paid for. Does anyone think the outcome would have been different? The baby was destined for the red bio-waste bag anyway, born-alive laws notwithstanding.

Our illustrious President should testify on behalf of the clinic. He gets it.

  7. Barbie says:

Why didn’t Williams yell out for the nurse to stop it – Williams was medicated – not incapacitated. As pdsand pointed out, this doesn’t say it’s a wrongful death case – it’s about the emotional damage she ‘suffered’. Looks like William’s outrage has nothing to do with the killing of the baby. B***h – – she wants money. The nurse should be charged with murder. Obama’s probably saying huh, what’s the big deal?

  8. Reality Bytes says:

And everyone said calling Obama “Barackula” was in bad taste. Hell, if it got him points, our vampire in chief would give this guy a metal!

  9. heykev says:

    Two things:

    1) Everyone working at that clinic should be charged with murder in some form or another. Both the clinic owner and the Dr. should be charged with 1st degree murder in this case. Here’s the number for the Miami-Dade State’s Attorney’s office if you want to call and let them know this is murder: 305-547-0100.

    2) While I believe that the “choice” to kill her baby is wrong, Ms. Williams should sue those responsible for killing her baby for every dime they have and may make in the future. This will hopefully give those involved in this despicable industry pause when killing babies.

  10. canary says:

allah Obama will hire him for his fist partial birth abortion clinic. This is abortion to a full-term baby. Once the head comes out, the back of the neck is cut. Surprises me how many people are not aware of partial birth abortion. If you did it to an animal you’d go to jail.

  11. canary says:

what’s the big deal to the woman if it died from being sliced to pieces while, alive, or suffocated. Or if it is painfully poisoned to death. I think the woman just wanted to sue. Did they explain to her the procedure. Did she think it was a blob? I hope she enjoys the BLOOD MONEY. It will surely, comfort her and she’ll be laughing her way to the bank.

  12. canary says:

The mom, didn’t call 911, get the baby from the garbage, call 911. It was someone else that heard the story that complained. It would be that person that was traumatized. The mother didn’t sound traumatized to me. She laid there an hour waiting for a doctor. Didn’t call anyone? With that kind of money I’m sure she had a cell phone.

  13. canary says:

If she felt it was human then why didn’t she at least try and give it a funeral. Dont’ think it bothered her one bit. It doesn’t bother many Americans, and it doesn’t bother Obama who wants full term babies murdered. Obama should be the first to perform the procedure, and it should be vidio-taped, if there is nothing wrong with partial-birth abortion.

  14. Celina says:

God have mercy on these people because I certainly don’t. A woman who is 23 weeks pregnant almost certainly feels her baby moving. 23 weeks is also generally considered these days to be the age of viability. That poor child stood a chance of living had she been shown common decency.

I have had a similar procedure (my child had already passed away for still unknown reasons). Suddenly the mother lays eyes on what she has done THEN the child’s life means something. Right when it is too late.

May that poor child rest in God’s eternal peace. What an unspeakable crime.

  15. The Redneck says:

I can certainly understand that the doctor, the nurses who smothered the kid, and the mother herself should (at the least) be thrown in the slammer for life.

But what the hell gives her grounds to sue? She wanted her baby murdered, her baby got murdered. Just how seriously are we supposed to take her when she talks about how awful it was to see it happen?

Her slutty backside needs to be thrown into jail too.

It reminds me of Rush Limbaugh’s “Caller Abortions,” where he’d “abort” phone calls with a taped flushing sound and drawn-out scream. He did it for two weeks, and got thousands of complaints… from people who have yet complain about the real abortions going on every single day.

  16. jobeth says:

This reminds me of the time a year or two ago when outside our local “women’s health clinic” aka abortion pit, the anti abortionists quietly picketed from across the street. (A Catholic group)

They had also bought a billboard where the torn apart fetus was shown.

They had to take it down…it was oh “too offensive”. ???? The deed is ok but to actually have to SEE what you do is offensive? So sad.

They used the further arguement that children would see it. That part I do agree with, but I think every young person old enough to get pregnant or to get someone pregnant should be required to see what they are actually doing to a live baby.

THEN, and only then, can they make an informed decision. It will always cause shock. Or at least it should

Having said all this I don’t think there is any reason short of the mother’s life, to commit murder on a tiny baby.

Even rape is not a good reason to abort. You just cover one horror with another. That will only compount the first horror not erase it.

I hope this gal is good and truly traumatized. I hope she never forgets the sight of her little girl struggling to breathe.

Maybe now she will take steps to make sure she doesn’t get pregnant in the first place again.

And she should carry full responsibility along with those at the clinic for the death of this little baby.

  17. caligirl9 says:

While I was working as a nurse I never had to assist in any late-term abortions (we didn’t do anything past 12 weeks), but as a L&D nurse in a small rural hospital, there were times when women came into the ER in active labor with a very preterm baby. Things moved too quickly to mobilize either the mom or the very preemie infant for transport by helicopter (anything under 24 or 25 weeks was pretty much doomed because we just didn’t have the facilities).

I have seen 23-week babies born alive but doomed to die because we could not give them the advanced life support they needed. But under no circumstances did we ever bundle a living, breathing baby up in its placenta and cord and toss it in the trash! We would hold the baby, keep it warm and talk to it if the mother wasn’t able to do so until the baby slipped away. It was not an easy thing to do.

It boggles my mind how any educated nurse could be so cold.

Ms. Williams made a very poor choice, as did everyone around her.
