Doc Thief Sandy Berger Is Now Advising Hillary
From the Examiner:
He’s back: Sandy Berger now advising Hillary Clinton
Bill Sammon, The Examiner
2007-10-08WASHINGTON - Sandy Berger, who stole highly classified terrorism documents from the National Archives, destroyed them and lied to investigators, is now an adviser to presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Berger, who was fired from John Kerry’s presidential campaign when the scandal broke in 2004, has assumed a similar role in Clinton’s campaign, even though his security clearance has been suspended until September 2008. This is raising eyebrows even among Clinton’s admirers.
“It shows poor judgment and a lack of regard for Berger’s serious misdeeds,” said law professor Jonathan Adler of Case Western Reserve University, who nonetheless called Clinton “by far the most impressive candidate in the Democratic field.”
Adler told The Examiner that it is “simply incomprehensible to me that a serious contender for the presidency would rely upon him as a key foreign policy advisor.”
He added: “If Senator Clinton becomes the Democratic nominee, at some point she will begin to receive national security briefings that will include sensitive information. At such a point, continuing to keep Berger on board as a key advisor, where he might have access to sensitive material, would be beyond incomprehensible.”
The Clinton campaign declined to comment.
Berger has admitted stealing documents from the National Archives in advance of the 9/11 Commission hearings in 2003. The documents, written by White House counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke, were a “tough review” of the Clinton administration’s shortcomings in dealing with terrorism, Clarke’s lawyer told the Washington Post…
The Justice Department initially said Berger stole only copies of classified documents and not originals. But the House Government Reform Committee later revealed that an unsupervised Berger had been given access to classified files of original, uncopied, uninventoried documents on terrorism. Several Archives officials acknowledged that Berger could have stolen any number of items and they “would never know what, if any, original documents were missing.”
At his sentencing in September 2005, Berger was fined $50,000, placed on probation for two years and stripped of his security clearance for three years.
Of course any list of the criminals surrounding Hillary Clinton would be quite long.
Which is odd, given that Bill Clinton says she is the most ethical person he knows. Indeed, she serves as his “moral compass.”
Clearly this is part of Mr. Berger’s reward for covering up the many Clinton lapses that led to 9/11.
But wasn’t it funny about the lack of outrage from the 9/11 Commission and our watchdog media at that? Even the Jersey Girls didn’t say a peep.
Weird, huh?

Incredible that the shill would hire this convicted criminal to a paid position as a security advisor….although I guess it would make sense that he could advise her how to steal secrets without getting caught, you know, a perfect example of how not to do it.
What is more incredible, however, is the Bush Justice Department allowing this scumbag to get off so easy. I wonder sometimes if Bush doesn’t give the clintoons and their posse a pass due to the chummy relationship between 41 and bjbill. If they had prosecuted him as they should have, he would have to be an adviser from a federal jail cell.

For quite some time now I have been deeply concerned about GWB’s soft response to the criminality of the Clintons and their associates. Just saying the name “Sandy Berger” makes my blood boil. If he had been properly punished, he’d still be in jail, not advising ANYBODY. I was concerned when GWB failed to take action when the Clinton’s stole everything they could get their hands on when they left the White House and nothing has changed since that time. Too many times he has turned the other cheek. Quite a disappointment.

Good point, eliles. What about the way he just let General Pace go - dropped him like a bad habit - rather than risk a fight with Congress over re-appointing him as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs? And Pace is a guy who’s carried a lot of water for this Administration. He deserved better.

artboy and eliles…..it’s getting hard to find anything to like about B43. Voted for him twice like most posters here, but couldn’t be more disappointed in his performance and the performance of his administration in general. That being said, however, I can’t imagine a worse nightmare than another clintoon administration.

Turning the cheek on Clinton after he left the White House was a designed move not to make the Left wing psychotic. I understand the move but it hasn’t yielded results. If anything the opposite. The Sandy Berger thing was very bewildering. He should have had the book thrown at him. Especially during a time of war. I think the softness of the Republican party is going to end up undoing our nation and put us at a greater security risk from terrorist ultimately one day.
