DOJ Opens ‘Criminal Probe’ Over CIA Tapes
From an overjoyed Associated Press:
Criminal probe opened over CIA tapes
By MATT APUZZO, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - The Justice Department opened a criminal investigation into the destruction of CIA interrogation videotapes and Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey appointed an outside prosecutor to oversee the case…
“The Department’s National Security Division has recommended, and I have concluded, that there is a basis for initiating a criminal investigation of this matter, and I have taken steps to begin that investigation,” Mukasey said in a statement released Wednesday.
Mukasey named John Durham, a federal prosecutor in Connecticut, to oversee the case. Durham has a reputation as one of the nation’s most relentless prosecutors. He served as an outside prosecutor overseeing an investigation into the FBI’s use of mob informants in Boston and helped send several Connecticut public officials to prison…
The CIA has already agreed to open its files to congressional investigators, who have begun reviewing documents at the agency’s Virginia headquarters. The House Intelligence Committee has ordered Jose Rodriguez, the former CIA official who directed the tapes be destroyed, to appear at a hearing Jan. 16.
(John Durham speaks to reporters on the steps of U.S. District Court in New Haven, Conn. in the April 25, 2006 photo at the right.)
This is just what we needed. Another gutless attorney general. Another out of control special prosecutor. And another media circus.
Never mind there is no crime here, or even the possibility of a crime.
He served as an outside prosecutor overseeing an investigation into the FBI’s use of mob informants in Boston and helped send several Connecticut public officials to prison.
And it sure sounds like Mr. Durham has his priorities straight, doesn’t it?
What a waste of the taxpayers’ money, just to placate the howling banshees on the left and in the media. (Though I repeat myself.)

Can someone explain what crime was committed here? In order to assert destruction of evidence as a crime, then there needs to be a criminal activity. Last time I checked, interrogation methods used on enemy combatants has yet to be defined as criminal - so called waterboarding included.

The only crime being committed here is the democrat’s attempts to screw up anything that could possibly do this country any good. Criminal behavior is our elected officials openly accusing non criminals of non criminal behavior, and then spending 40 million dollars pursuing a non crime for the benefit of voters. It is political theatre…at which the democrats excell. As for doing anything productive for the good of the entire nation and not just contributers and special interests….forget it. Criminal minds always see a crime in anything the opposition does. The democrat congress flat plain sucks.

They have waterboarded three people. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (9-11 operations commander), Abu Zubaydah (of USS Cole {field commander} and al Qaida training camp fame) and one third person who either has not been named or I cannot find. As a matter of fact, I spent more time trying to find the name (three minutes) which was longer than the longest actual waterboarding. Most are just a few seconds. And the CIA has not done it since 2003 - when the unknown threat was greatest. And the terrorists sang like there was no tomorrow. It works, it saved lives, and it is barely used.
Wah.

Durham gets a book deal….democrats look like they are on the heels of the Bush administration…Durham gets a book deal…..Pelosi can feign victory against the Bush administration…..Durham gets a book deal…the CIA is made to look bad by democrats…..after they were held in such stellar esteem by the democrats when wank holster Plame was exposed as a cocktail circuit slut and tried to cover it by saying she was a secret agent….Durham gets a book deal…..and, as is the norm for our democrat led congress, another person is going to be charged for committing a crime that isnt a crime, for breaking a law that doesnt exist by not doing anything illegal, and they can tacitly expose more secrets to the enemies of the United States via “hearings”, where Henry Waxman shows us yet again that he still manages to use toilet paper in spite of the fact that the directions are not printed on it.
Political crap….useless charges…..spending money they dont have on something they dont need, all to entertain a bored public and a anything to sell commercial time media…..we will be committing suicide by the time this is wrung through the mill …..like Iowa and New Hampshire are being now. Literally, nobody cares. Shredded an interview. Oh wow…..yeah, that’s a real crime. How about investigating why an Alaskan can get a 10 million dollar earmark for an interchange ten miles from where I live in Florida? Oh, yeah, that isnt a crime like shredding an interview to protect an operative.
These people make me vomit.

The sad part is the question of why the CIA opened their files to a body that couldn’t keep their mouths shut if they tried.

It’s really bad times when the people who are supposed to keep us safe are nothing more than political tools. And Mr. Durham is just that, a tool. With all the very real threats, foreign and domestic, this is how the DOJ spends OUR time and money. They know what’s on those tapes and have nothing to actually charge anyone with but let’s see if they can find something. Sounds like a perjury hunt. What does a society do when it’s policing forces can’t be trusted any longer? Who is going hold them accountable?
Our degenerate government representatives will never clean up their own house. It seems like nothing will ever wake us up to action.
