EPA Now Claims It Lost Emails, Issa Threatens Contempt

From the Politico:

EPA joins IRS lost emails club

By ERICA MARTINSON | June 25, 2014

Move over, IRS — now the EPA is having its own problems with missing emails.

See how lightly the Politico treats this? It’s all a big joke to them.

The environmental agency is having trouble locating emails belonging to a former agency employee and pulling information from his crashed hard drive, House members revealed Wednesday while questioning Administrator Gina McCarthy at a hearing on complaints of mismanagement.

“What is it with bureaucrats and public employees … the hard drives crash?” asked Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-Mich.). He and others on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee questioned McCarthy about missing information related to the committee’s investigation into the potential environmental impact of a proposed gold and copper mine in the Bristol Bay watershed in Alaska.

“It sounds like we have another missing hard drive,” said Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.). McCarthy said her agency hasn’t given up. “We’re having trouble getting information off of it and are trying different ways,” McCarthy said.

The agency also notified the National Archives on Tuesday that there may be some unrecoverable emails that should have been preserved under federal law. “I’m still hoping we recovered all those emails,” she said…

What an epidemic. But what this article does not say is that the Environmental Protection Agency has been required to physically remove and store every hard drive from every machine removed from service since the Carol Browner email fiasco of 2008. So this would seem to be further proof that the Obama administration is intentionally destroying evidence in the face of Congressional subpoenas.

Meanwhile, from The Hill:

Rep. Issa threatens contempt for EPA

By Timothy Cama | June 25, 2014

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) on Wednesday threatened to hold the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in contempt of Congress if officials fail to turn over subpoenaed communications with the White House. The EPA has not provided Issa with the documents requested in November, nor has it asserted executive privilege over them.

“The subpoena calls for you to deliver the documents. You have not done so,” Issa told EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy at a hearing. “Are you prepared to deliver the documents or provide an item-by-item privilege log of executive privilege?” …

Issa did not say whether McCarthy herself would be the subject of the contempt vote or if any other officials would be charged. He said he would schedule a meeting on the vote Wednesday if McCarthy continued to withhold the documents…

It should be clear by now that the Obama administration has no problem defying Congress. It revels in their contempt.

There is a silver lining to all this email bru-ha-ha.

Prohibit all federal agencies from using email. Require that they correspond via USPS snail mail.

    The benefits are:

1 – Hard copy of all communications will be produced, safe from nasty hard disk crashes.

2 – The Post Office will finally get some new revenue producing business.
