ESPN Pulls Williams Song After ‘Hitler’ Line

Singer Hitler shock

Are you ready for a pink slip?

ESPN yesterday benched Hank Williams Jr. and his musical intro from its “Monday Night Football” broadcast after the veteran country singer used an analogy to Hitler in discussing President Obama.

The network refused to say whether he’d ever be back…

Williams was discussing June’s “golf summit,” in which Obama and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) played against Vice President Joe Biden and Ohio’s Republican governor, John Kasich.

“It’d be like Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu,” he bizarrely said.

It certainly was an idiotic comment. Hitler never played golf. (However he was an avid bowler. He even had a bowling alley in the basement of the Berghof. But he kept it quiet because he did not want to be pestered for endorsements.)

But no one is allowed to mention the name of Hitler, unless of course it is in comparison to Mr. Bush or some other Republican figure.

When one of the hosts of the morning show, Brian Kilmeade, said he didn’t understand the analogy, Williams responded, “Well, I’m glad you don’t, brother, because a lot of people do. They’re the enemy.”

Williams was then asked to clarify who he believes is “the enemy.”

“Obama! Biden!” he said.

The singer, whose dad was legendary country musician Hank Williams, also called the friendly meeting on the links “one of the biggest political mistakes ever.”

Later, when co-host Gretchen Carlson told him, “You used the name of one of the most hated people in all the world to describe the president,” Williams didn’t back down.

“That’s true,” he said. “But I’m just telling it like it is. ”

ESPN wished he hadn’t.

“We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and, as a result, we have decided to pull the open from [yesterday’s] telecast,” the network said.

The singer said he was just “misunderstood.”

“Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood,” he said in a statement. “My analogy was extreme — but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me — how ludicrous the pairing was.”

It is clear that Mr. Williams was simply saying that he views Obama and Boehner as enemies, politically speaking. Like Hitler and Netanyahu would be.

And never mind that both Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden have previously called Republicans the enemy — or worse. For instance, in an October 25, 2010 interview on the Spanish language channel Univision, Mr. Obama said:

"If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder."

And, of course, Mr. Biden called Tea Party supporters "terrorists."

But if a famously ‘rowdy’ Country and Western singer uses that kind of language, he must be punished.

We can’t even list the insulting and horrible things liberals have said and gotten away with even within the last 10 years. You can see a lot of anti-Bush stuff documented here: http://www.zombietime.com/
~And really, who cares? Kennedy killed his mistress, and Byrd was a KKK recruiter, & if liberals took no notice, what is the big deal about this?

Liberal try to mind-screw people into conformity in ascending order:
    1. Full throated supporter.
    2. Supporter.
    3. Passive supporter.

    4. Non-supporter, but shuts up and does nothing.
    5. Non-supporter.
    6. Full throated non-supporter. (100% unacceptable, and the worst threat to liberalism)

    A bad last few months…..
~Gene Simmons said he made a huge mistake voting for “the one” in 2008.
~Lost District 9 seat in New York.
~Dan Hampton of the Chicago Bears said he wasn’t attending the White House event.
~No Democrat will sponsor his “jobs bill.”
~Communist dictators have called his speeches ‘jibberish.’
~Called his wife MICHAEL during a recent speech (google it).
~Is the only one waving in an international group photo.
~Hank Williams Jr. calls him “Hitler.”

Ugh, I think Hitler would be insulted to be compared to Obama actually. . .

  2. Dupree says:

More “civility for thee, not for me” from the left.

  3. Rusty Shackleford says:

National socialists can never handle the truth.

  4. untrainable says:

When will they tell us that “Hitler” cannot be used at all in polite company and should go the way of the others. The “N” word. The “C” word. The “F” word. And now, the “H” word. My only response “WTF?”

  5. GetBackJack says:

This http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4s0nzsU1Wg is what they hate ….

…. a class of people who don’t obey, don’t agree, don’t bend the knee and will fight back.

  6. Rusty Shackleford says:

It would be just perfect if Faith Hill called Zero Hitler too. The moguls in marketing would literally have a conniption.

For those who don’t know, she sings the Sunday Night Football theme.

    • JohnMG says:

But…….Faith and hubby Tim McGraw are HUGE Obama supporters. Certainly she believes ESPN did the right thing. How DARE anyone criticize the Zero?

    And, yet, there’s this: http://www.opposingviews.com/i/politics/2012-election/audio-espn-radio-lets-mike-tyson-make-obscene-comments-about-sarah-palin

Audio: ESPN Radio Lets Mike Tyson Make Obscene Comments about Sarah Palin

Former boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson was on Gridlock, an ESPN Radio show in Las Vegas, this week and gave his R-rated opinions about the alleged affair between Sarah Palin and NBA star Glen Rice. The audio clip (below) is loaded with graphic, crude descriptions and definitely not for kids.

However, ESPN Radio was just fine with the audio. Apparently, if somebody isn’t using a curse word, everything is fine and funny. Whether you’re a Palin supporter or not is besides the point. Tyson clearly crosses a line into a crude, lockerroom world where it’s acceptable to trash and bash a former vice presidential candidate beyond all sense of decency.

The audio clip is on the page. There’s also a bit of a transcript, which I will refrain from posting.

Obama is hitler without the audacity.

  9. David says:

While strange the analogy works on a few levels. A statist with economic philosophy from the early 19th century vs a modern leader trying to get his country through a dark period with little support and lots of enemies.

  10. BillK says:

Glenn Beck had a great line today – Williams’ PR people should have him apologize to Boehner for comparing him to Hitler.

It’s the media that is comparing Obama to Hitler, as Williams never made that comparison.

  11. John Carter says:

Hank owes no one an apology. All of Congress owes all of the legal citizens of America an apology for not investigating the fake birth certificate and SSN from Conneticut of one Barry Soetoro.

  12. canary says:

I can’t believe the new FOX “Five” show blasted Hank. So, trivial. Half the country has compared Obama to Hitler which is worse than what Hank Jr. said as far as two teams playing each other.

  13. The Redneck says:

He also referred to Boehner as Netanyahu……

Among the left, that’s probably a far worse insult.
