And it is as everyone is saying: what the article is calling conservative (the EPP) is actually a center-right coalition, whose 2009 manifesto is viewable at their wiki, but includes “Europe should find a strategy to attract skilled workers from the rest of the world to make Europe’s economy more competitive, more dynamic and more knowledge driven” while at the same time being in favor of outrageous green economy and social welfare initiatives that historically have crippled it.

The real story behind this was as brilliant old Rush pointed out today: the European Freedom Party – which has no representation yet still gets slammed for having a “racist” spokesman – got 17% of the vote. Above everything else that’s because those people feel like no party in the EU represents their values, which are probably closer to the conservative values we know. In fact the EU probably is by and large a failure to them. Heck, people are so disillusioned there that even a single issue group like the Pirate Party got a rep voted in.

Thank you for the “good luck”. It really pains me to go but the last view months have been a terrible deja-vu and most Poles in the U.S. are shell-shocked by the way the things are shaping up here.

U.S. is going down the same path and she seems to be hell-bent on catching up with and then passing the E.U. In the last few months, financial and auto industries have been nationalized and the health care is next on the list. Global warming scheme is becoming the official state religion in the U.S. and soon the remnants of manufacturing and energy industries will be sacrified on its altars with the highest priest/demigod Obama presiding over the ceremonies.

Let’s face it, the whole Federal Reserve “monetary policy” is nothing but a giant Ponzi scheme that is beginning to unravel. It appears that the whole U.S. economy is more like a Potiomkin village financed by Chinese. What you wrote about European Ponzi scheme, fits the U.S. to a “t”.

And just to clarify:

“Liberal” in Europe applies to supporters of free-market economy, strong private property protections and very little government involvement in people’s lives in general. It does not have any connotation as to a person’s moral views and values as it does in the U.S.
“Conservative” in Europe is a person who would value traditional values, morals and societal institutions. Again, “conservative” does not say anything about a person’s views and opinions on economy.

My favourite party in Poland is U.P.R., which describes itself as conservative-liberal. Again, in the European meaning, not the U.S.

When you come to think of it, the Founding Fathers would feel right at home at U.P.R.

The US is going in the same direction as the Europeans, and with the tyrant in the White House, we will get their much faster unless Americans wake up very quickly. The pace of the first 120 days has matched a decade of European somnabulance.

I’m hoping that Americans will wake up, since there is still a self-reliant streak in this country, as we can see by the many sensible posters on this site.

I also noticed earlier today that you are leaving us, and hate to see it….but if you are going to Poland or another Eastern European country, those countries, having experienced tyranny and socialism first-hand for many decades may be the worlds’ next great hope. Good luck to you.

That sounds great until you realize that their government debts are several times ours. Moreover, the reproduction rates are far below replacement level. Population growth is from Muslim immigrants. The native European populations are dying off.

There is no way those countries can survive much longer. There will either be a series of huge wars by which the declining Eurpeans try to save themselves by eradicating the Muslims, or the Muslims will take-over peacefully, and the benefits white Europeans enjoy will be washed off the books and they will become subservient to their new Muslim rulers.

All of this has developed in the 60+ years following WWII, because of the unbearable devestation of the 2 world wars, including tens of millions of deaths. It was many times worse than what the US endured. Coming out of those wars, the populations were determined to never again go to war, and also succumbed to the siren-song of communism/socialism. This was enabled by the fact that the US made it possible for Europe to spend miniscule amounts on defense. It was also enabled, by a ponzi-scheme mentality that allowed the Europeans to envision that ever-growing government benefits could be funded by ever-growing populations. In reality, the opposite has happened, and disaster is imminent.

Even so, most of the continent is in 100% denial of their inevitable fate, and like most people involved in Ponzi schemes, they continue to envision that more suckers will come along. When the poster says that conservatives there are not like we think of conservatives, what he means is that conservatives there are more like centrist in the US. Expect for a tiny minority, the political mindset is shades of leberalism.

But because of the demographic extermination of the native populations, the people coming in at the bottom of the socialist ponzi scheme are not enough. It’s almost over for Western Europe, and one of the two outcomes I described is in the near future..

Seriously, after 13 years in the U.S. (legal, paying taxes, no run-ins with law) in two weeks time I am taking my family back home for good.

Ok, nobody better laugh at me for asking this…I’m really not an idiot, but given that I graduated from a public university, I need some “enlightenment” from time to time.
Is the political spectrum in Europe the same as it is in the States? Just how conservative is a European conservative compared to a US conservative? Just wondering if their social and political values are like ours…or perhaps their conservatives are still what we would consider left-leaning. Again, no laughing…at least not to my face.

What does the Press mean by terming these newly elected “conservative”?

Honestly, this news makes me think that maybe the Dems won’t keep a grip on the government for long.

But if Mark Steyn is right, and he IS a genius, it’s too late for them.
