Web Site, Ad Campaign, e-Activism Part of Unprecedented Union Effort

Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa on Monday announced that the union will campaign vigorously for health care reform using a new Web site, an ad campaign, call-in days, e-activism and events planned throughout Congress’s August recess.

The campaign will kick off with a new Web site today, teamstersforhealthcarereformnow.com, to mobilize members in the fight for health care reform. The Web site launch will be supported by a Web-based ad campaign on targeted state blogs and on-line publications.

Tens of thousands of Teamsters activists will be asked to call Congress on Tuesday to support quality, affordable health care for everyone now – part of a national call-in day sponsored by Health Care for America Now.

“Health care reform is too important for the labor movement to sit on the sidelines,” Hoffa said. “The high cost of health care is burdening American workers, crippling U.S. companies, hurting the economy and adding to the deficit.

“I am personally urging Teamsters local unions to get out there and support President Obama’s efforts to fix our broken health-care system. This is an unprecedented effort on our part.”

The Web site features a toolkit for taking action, news, legislative updates and facts about the health care crisis facing America.

“Our e-activist effort is only the most recent in our ongoing mobilization of our members as we pursue our priorities: protecting and expanding American jobs and improving the quality of life for American working families,” Hoffa said

Why would the Teamsters, who are famous for having one of the most gold-plated benefits packages this side of Congress, be pushing so hard for Mr. Obama’s healthcare plan?

Could it be that they too want to get off the hook for paying benefits?

And if the Teamsters want to opt out, everyone is going to opt out of their normal healthcare programs – so as to get into the ‘free’ national plan.

Teamsters do not pay for the gold-plated benefits – the companies do.

It probably isn’t the rank and file workers who want it – but the union bosses.

My sister who works in the health care industry is actually a Teamster – I kid you not – all the employees at the hospital where she works are – with the exception of the janitors/central services – they are SEIU. She voted against unionization – but they were still able to unionize anyways.

You’re right, Teamsters don’t pay any benefits, healthcare and otherwise. As a wife of a conservative Teamster I will use their website and perform my own version of activism.

conservativegirl, isn’t you Teamster’s health care called Teamster Care? Do you not take it with you if you leave one union job and go to another? I know your retirement is tied to the union and not to any company.

Of course, there is a clause in the Health care bill that exempts certain unions from having to take the plan that will be forced on the rest of us.

    Sorry duplicate response.

  3. Rusty Shackleford says:

Well, why shouldn’t they campaign for it? After all, everything else they’ve ever done has worked out so well, hasn’t it?

    YEAH …. RIGHT!! (laughing)

  5. jobeth says:

Hey, this is pure and simple “pay back time”. Look what Obalmy has done for unions (read that, union heiarchy bigwigs)….and I am sure more is promised behind the scenes.

As usual, the Teamsters threw their own members under the bus for a, to use a term they use…”sweetheart deal” for the union heiarchy.

There are a whole load of “useful” idiots in the “rank and file” who swallow anything and everything the union bosses tell them.

Easier than thinking. They won’t wake up til it’s too late.

    • conservativegirl says:

Teamsters are throwing their members under the bus as is the AARP.

    • jobeth says:

conservative girl, Absolutely right! I heard about that! I don’t like them anyway…the AARP has always be on the left anyway. They have a lot of good things about them but they are sold out politically and have been for ages.

I have the health insurance they support (prior to Obalmy) and I like it. Its done most all I need it to do, but I am not so sure I want to hear what they will have in mind for me now.

Perhaps a “better” “death interview”? Oh, great! (sarc)

As to that interview we would be mandated to go thru at 60 and every five years after and upon the acquisition of a life threatening condition (pg 425) ….I told my husband they will play “hell” getting ME in for that!!!!! He nearly fell on the floor laughing at the thought! LOL

If you hear of a great disturbance here in central Florida…It will probably be me! LOL

Somewhere in those 1100 pages of Universal Health Scare legalese, stress fractures caused by breaking somebody else’s knees are covered.
