"Far Right" Biden Voted To Outlaw Roe v Wade

From CNN’s transcript of the Vice Presidential Debate, via CNN’s Political Ticker:

Transcript: Vice Presidential Debate

BIDEN: The court – the next president will get one or two Supreme Court nominees. That’s how close Roe v. Wade is. Just ask yourself, with Robert Bork being the chief adviser on the court for – for Mr. Romney, who do you think he’s likely to appoint? Do you think he’s likely to appoint someone like Scalia or someone else on the court far right that would outlaw (inaudible) – outlaw abortion? I suspect that would happen.

Note that Biden calls someone who would outlaw abortion "on the far right."

I guarantee you, that will not happen. We picked two people. We pick people who are open-minded. They’ve been good justices. So keep an eye on the Supreme Court —

RYAN: Was there a litmus test on them?

BIDEN: There was no litmus test. We picked people who had an open mind; did not come with an agenda.

Notice that claims there was no litmus test. Right after he guaranteed us that their judicial picks will not outlaw abortion. Which is laughably inconsistent even by Biden standards.

RADDATZ: I’m – I’m going to move on to this closing question because we are running out of time.

It’s a shame that Ms. Raddatz decided to move on. But it’s understandable.

After all, Paul Ryan might have brought up this inconvenient truth from the Washington Examiner:

War on Women? Joe Biden voted for constitutional amendment to overturn Roe vs. Wade

By Joel Gehrke | Thurs October 11, 2012

Abortion activists hope that Vice President Joe Biden will portray campaign rival Paul Ryan as an extremist for being pro-life, but that might be a tall order for a former senator who supported a constitutional amendment to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

In 1982, then-Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., voted for the Human Life Federalism Amendment, which contradicted Roe by declaring that “the right to an abortion is not secured by this Constitution.”

So back in 1982 Joe Biden was on the "far right."

The Florida Catholic Conference of Bishops recalls the Hatch Amendment as a “turning point in [the] pro-life cause.”

Biden even bragged about this vote in a letter to one Ms. Juanita Sonnier. “Many thanks for taking the time to inform me of your concern over the controversial issue of abortion, specifically Senate Joint Resolution 110, the Hatch Amendment,” Biden said in the letter. “As I am sure you are aware, on Thursday, March 11, 1982 the Senate Judiciary Committee voted in favor of this measure. I voted for this resolution, which passed by a vote of 10-7.”

Fast forward to this week: “We hope the Vice President Biden makes [Ryan] answer for his extreme anti-woman, anti-family agenda,” Emily’s List President Stephanie Schriock told The Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard.

The National Right to Life Committee, which produced these Biden documents, explained their contemporary significance. “Even if Biden has changed his mind on some or all of these issues – it is one thing to say one has changed one’s mind, quite another to assert that one’s previous position was ‘extreme’ or constituted a ‘war on women,”‘ NRLC argued.

But that was then, and this is now.

This is probably a good place to mention that Joe Biden was the original “borker” of Judge Robert Bork and Justice Clarence Thomas.

It was then Senator Joe Biden who organized the smear campaigns against both Bork and Thomas.

Biden, through his former position as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, was for nearly three decades at the forefront of every effort to pervert the Federal courts, in regard to turning them from courts of law into activist policy-making organs for the Left.

Biden voted against the confirmations of Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Chief Justice John “I-Can-Be-Reached” Roberts, and Justice Sam Alito, and against virtually every Republican nominee to the lower Federal courts. The only exception in Biden’s otherwise perfect record was Pres. Reagan’s 1986 appointment of Justice Antonin Scalia––an oversight which Biden frequently laments, as he reminded us again last night.

Biden was responsible for bottling up Pres. George W. Bush’s judicial nominees Miguel Estrada, Caroline Kuhl, and Priscilla Owen.

For almost three decades, Biden subverted the judicial confirmation process as envisioned by the Founders, turning the advice-and-consent process into bitter, drawn-out ideological battles.

Under Biden, Left-wing ideological purity became the litmus test for every Federal judicial appointee. As a result, Biden has inflicted enormous harm to the Federal courts, the Constitution, the rule of law, the legal profession, and to the country.

It is Joe Biden who lowered political discourse in this country to the level of pubic hairs on Coke cans :

“I voted for it before I voted against it.” How do you spell hypocrite? Is it B I D E N?

It’s hard to believe this walking joke is the Vice-President of my United States. Biden is a hack with a capitol “H”.
