Fire Reported At Terrorist’s Muslim Center

From a hope springing eternal Associated Press:

Imam Yosof Wanly, of the Salman Al-Farisi Center, is interviewed in the center in Corvallis, Ore.

Fire reported at Ore. Islamic center; no injuries

November 28, 2010

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Arson caused a fire on Sunday at an Islamic center that was the occasional place of worship for a Somali-born teen who two days ago was arrested on charges of plotting a terror attack in Portland, authorities said.

So the Associated Press is officially declaring this to be "arson"? How quick they are to jump to conclusions – when it suits them. They want a ‘Muslim backlash’ so badly.

(By the way, did the AP ever call the fire at Sarah Palin’s church "arson"?)

The fire at the Salman Al-Farisi Islamic Center was set early Sunday morning, said Carla Pusateri, a fire prevention officer for the Corvallis Fire Department.

She said "quite a bit of evidence" was left at the scene, which led her to believe the fire was intentionally set. No injuries have been reported.

The Islamic center was frequented by Mohamed Osman Mohamud, a 19-year-old held on charges of plotting to carry out a terror attack at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland on Friday.

Yosof Wanly, imam at the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center, said Mohamud was a normal student who went to athletic events, drank the occasional beer and was into rap music and culture.

The imam considers drinking, going to athletic events and listening to rap music "normal"? What kind of Islam is this?

Wanly said Mohamud was religious but didn’t come to the mosque consistently.

Mr. Mohamud wanted to show his piety is other ways.

The fire on Sunday was contained to one room, burning 80 percent of the center’s office, Wanly said. The worship areas were untouched.

If this fire was set in retaliation for the attempted bombing, why would it be confined to one room – the office – rather than the "worship areas"?

An inside job would have done three rather convenient things: 1) it would destroy evidence, 2) divert attention away from the terrorist who tried to blow up people in Portland, and 3) make Muslims look persecuted.

Wanly has been advised by friends to take his family out of their home, and to "another person’s house due to the possibility of hate crimes," he said. "I’m going to look into it, especially because my face has been on the news a lot."

Yes, Mr. Wanly is so afraid of for his safety that he is posing for pictures and giving interviews to the Associated Press and everyone else who asks.

Wanly said the local populace has always been accepting of Muslims.

"The common scene here is to be very friendly, accepting various cultures and religions," Wanly said. "The Islamic center has been here for 40 years, it’s more American than most Americans with regards to age."

Really, what could be more American than an Islamic Center? Especially one what has been here for forty whole years?

In any case, by their fruits shall we know them.

They say the blaze gutted one room of the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center in Corvallis.

The centre had been attended by Somali-born teenager Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, who was held on Friday for plotting to detonate a bomb at a Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in nearby Portland.

“We eliminated other causes of the fire, and we do have evidence that it was arson,” Carla Pusateri of Corvallis’ Fire Department said on Sunday.

Officials said the fire started shortly after 0200 local time (1000 GMT) and was put out about 10 minutes later.

Local police said they did not know who started the blaze, but they suggested the centre was targeted because Mr Mohamud had occasionally worshipped there.

However, they warned they would tolerate no attack in retribution for Mr Mohamud’s foiled attempt.

Mr Mohamud allegedly told the FBI agent that he had been thinking of carrying out a jihad, or holy war,
against infidels since the age of 15.

In spite of the photo showing a slightly burned office in side the mosque, law enforcement guesses it started by somewhat retaliating. Perhaps the small fire inside an office in the mosque had documents or files to destroy.

Like the Church Lady used to say… “Isn’t that conveeeeeeeeeeenient?”
I suppose it had to be a hate crime. I mean who else has access to the offices of a muslim center besides angry non-muslims with a grudge. Sounds perfectly logical to me.

To bad! We feel real sorry for these creeps! Should have had a better fire system deterent. I’d put money on it that the rats were running wild.Since Arabs don’t believe in having insurance it sure looks like there will be some “out of pocket expenses” doesn’t it?

  4. bobbys69 says:

they probably burnt the office themselves to destroy all incriminating evidence leading back to the mosque…wait, im just a racist tea party wacko who doesn’t have any compassion for people who want to murder americans…..if it wasn’t so disturbing it might be funny

  5. David says:

Not to mention the complete avoidance of the issue that there has been a recent string of arsons in the area. Mostly in empty houses. They caught one guy but it seems like there was likely another due to the timing of two fires starting in separate locations.

    • David says:

Also, this would never make the news, but many of the students who attend the mosque spent thanksgiving dinner with Christian families from mine and several other local churches here. Most families went through great effort to make Halal dishes and the experience has always been positive for both families and students. The Liberals here scream about right-wing Christian hate crimes but I wonder how many have ever opened their homes?

    • Liberals Demise says:

A liberal opening their home for a dinner?
Maybe at $250.00 a plate but …… for free?

  6. David says:

One of these now numerous articles also quotes the Imam as not being suspicious or this young terrorist.
    So, either:
    1. The “center” is so out of touch with its members that it doesn’t see giant red flags with a kids who clearly is deranged and wants to kill innocent men and women.
    2. There is nothing particularly different in this kids ideas and values that would differentiate him from the others who regularly attend the mosque.
I am not sure which is worse.

So…..someone wanting revenge, (didn’t break and enter) went to a specific INSIDE ROOM and set a small, NON- BLAZING, OUT-OF-CONTROL-dreadnaught of a fire, easily put out, and did minimal damage?

You can get the AP to show up get maximum media coverage, with minimum damage or suffering on your part? —Nice!

But we have seen this many times before staged Palestinian events for media sympathy (Pallywood): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eww7BkkvFdo
