Say, didn't we do this before--ie. giving deadbeats something they can't afford?

Can't say I liked it the first time.

You hit it right on the head Cali .. these are just a spin/sort of the credit/financial quarantee packages that can be bought for all kinds of things. Volkswagon actually did this back in the early 90's as I recall. If you bought a new VW and got laid off, your payment was made for a brief period.

Now lets hope AIG is not the underwriting company!!! :-)

I don't like the sound of this . Who is really going to get this help with our tax dollars. None of my friends or I can even get credit to buy a used car or truck. To much use of tax dollars. The only folks who are going to get this help are the people who really don't need it. Just another slick trick. Ya'll have a great day

Hyundai is making a similar offer - albeit not quite as generous = three months of payments and if still no work yoo can return it without a ding to your credit.

"This sounds like a great lease, up to $500 / month courtesy of those who work for a living."

Kind of like every other type of welfare, isn't it?

Who's to say whether the person is really in need or just a scammer?

What are the estimates of corruption in welfare programs? 30-40%? probably a low estimate.

You hit the nail squarely on the head!
What is to stop someone from buying a car they can't afford, then having the company make several payments before letting it get repo'ed?

Will "we" tax the car payments 90%?

Will payments be made only for union members?

Will taxes have to be up to date?

Just aksing.

Ok I think it was Honda that started this ball rolling - 3 months for them - if I remember. Ford I think signed on just as an added incentive to buy their cars (remember they did not take the bailout, yet) and GM is in the midst of a government takeover. Yes, if you listen to the ad carefully, it is a 'policy' - my guess is you pay for it upfront - just what one needs more added $$$$ to an already high price item.

I just love it with psychotics running the show - scream most of the primary season - all of the general election campaign season and during the tranisition how damn bad the economy is - so everyone decides to hold the hand they have (those that can afford it) - thus making the economy actually rotten and now oh, my what are we to do?!?!

If I had my way - they'd be shot at sunrise - don't ask who - because it encompasses a load of people much beyond the Klownposse in DC.

The amount of fear in our free market leaders is very disturbing. In just 60 days, this administration has crippled the titans of industry. Would any of you have predicted that Ford and GM would pay your car payments before this Trotskyite was elected?

When 911 hit, and the economy was similarly affected, the big three started their 0 interest programs as a measure to stave off the lack of sales. It was only supposed to be on select models, and only for a brief window of time until the economy rebounded. I remember then thinking how desperate these merchants appeared to be.

In retrospect, that was nothing compared to what they are doing now. These entities aren't "companies" anymore. They are welfare agents, plain and simple.

Goodbye, America, as we have always known it.

Anyone care to bet these "payments" will be made by some sort of insurance policy, bought by the automakers by either: (1) funds handed to them by TCO and Co., or (2) purchased indirectly by buyers in the form of higher prices?

NO WAY they are doing this because they are "nice people."

I can honestly say I do see a great parallel with Lincoln. The Whig party, whom Lincoln strongly believed in, had three major goals: 1) protectionist tariffs (Isn't O being accused of that now?) 2) a nationalized banking system (Nuff said.), 3) internal improvement subsidies (During Lincoln's reign it was the railroads. Now it's going to be the infrastructure.)

O admires and studied Lincoln extensively. It appears Lincoln threw the Constitution under the bus to try and get what he wanted; total and lasting corrupt control for one party without regard for the people. Unfortunately, history is beginning to repeat itself.
