Forget Teddy – Obama Okays Wind Farm

From the New York Post:

Big blow to Kennedys

Prez gives OK for Cape Cod wind farm

April 29, 2010

Ted Kennedy must be spinning in his grave!

The Obama administration has given the green light for the nation’s first offshore wind farm off the pristine coast of Cape Cod — a surprise move in direct opposition to the wishes of the mighty Massachusetts political icon who helped propel the president to power.

US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar made the announcement yesterday in Boston, capping a nine-year federal review process that pitted the liberal Kennedy clan — whose Hyannis Port compound is near the future wind farm — against fellow Dems and some environmental groups.

A month before he died, Ted Kennedy — who was one of President Obama’s earliest backers — wrote the president a letter begging him to stop the wind farm from being erected.

"He [Ted Kennedy] would be heartbroken," said Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer and the nephew of the late liberal lion.

Some environmentalists accused the longtime Massachusetts senator — who often sailed in the waters off of Cape Cod — of opposing the wind farm simply because it would mar the picturesque views of the Nantucket Sound from the family’s storied compound.

Robert Kennedy — who also opposes the wind farm — scoffed, "No Kennedy has ever said that."

He said the Kennedys and others oppose it for a number of reasons, including fears for the local fishing industry and the belief that there are cheaper ways to tap wind energy.

The late Ted Kennedy once said, "The people who ought to be irate [over the wind farm] ought to be the citizens of Massachusetts. I don’t shrink from my advocacy for them."

Also in opposition to the wind farm are two Wampanoag Indian tribes, who have complained that the giant turbines will disturb their spiritual ceremonies and possibly destroy the tribe’s burial grounds.

The 130-turbine wind farm is expected to cut carbon dioxide by 700,000 tons a year, the Interior Department said — the equivalent of taking 175,000 cars off the road.

Isn’t it funny how letters from the late Ted Kennedy were supposed to inspire Congress to vote for health care reform, and yet they can be completely ignored when they are inconvenient to Mr. Obama’s agenda?

Of course the fact that another ‘environmentalist’ blowhard, Robert Kennedy, Jr, is adamantly against these wind farms, makes it doubly ironic. But he likes his sea views, too.

Needless to say, our mainstream media are ignoring all of this side of the story completely. But it should supply the minimum daily requirement for irony for most of us.

Transformator station and wind energy plants at the offshore wind energy park Alpha Ventus are pictured in the North Sea, about 45 kilometres (27 miles) north of the island of Borkum April 26, 2010.

Still, lest we forget, we are constantly told that we can’t have offshore drilling in much of America because oil derricks are such eyesores.

But wind farms on Cape Cod, on scenic mountain tops, in the pristine desert – somehow aren’t eye sores. Nor are their “transformers.” (Which look remarkably like oil platforms.)

Isn’t that weird?

The Democrats are all for the environment and clean energy…….unless they are not.

If I could vote out every singe person in state and federal government and start over with NON-LAWYERS, I would do it in a second.

  2. canary says:

Might stir up some unknown Kennedy sea & land burials along with the
    Wampanoag Indian tribe’s burial grounds.

  3. BigOil says:

May the hum from these behemoths ring in the ears of the bootlegging Kennedy clan for all eternity – or at least for 6 months until the turbines break down.

  4. Astravogel says:

‘Ol Teddy is spinnin’ in his grave? OK, lets hook a generator
up to him. Seems to me he did a little offshore drillin’ in his day.

    Democratica Delinda Est!

  5. Right of the People says:

There go the real estate values in Hyannisport, time to consider selling the old compound.

My Lord what will be next, a Republican Senator from Massachusetts?

It must suck to be a Kennedy these days.

  6. proreason says:

Teddy, under the bus before the body is warm. Somehow, I’m not surprised.

But the Kennedy’s are lucky in a way. Most people are practically driven insane by a wind farm nearby. The monoonous hum of the massive transmission mechanisms to tranfser the itty bitty power supply from the bodies of the dead birds to Boone Pickens power lines. But the Kennedy’s already have their brains scrambled, so that’s not a factor for them.

  7. NoNeoCommies says:

Forget putting these things where the wind is.
Just put them where the most rich environmentalists live.
This makes the Cape perfect for a wind farm.

  8. Beckwith says:

The first time a really good hurricane comes up the Gulf Stream, this wind farm will end up in Nova Scotia.

  9. Rusty Shackleford says:

Ask any liberal what grows on a wind farm.

    • MinnesotaRush says:

That is terrific, Rusty! I love it! I’m going to add it to my “Tweak a Liberal” list.

  10. Rusty Shackleford says:

    Headline in 10 years:

Government installs gas engines to power wind-turbines for 2020 America’s Cup races.

Due to a severe wind shortage, the government has authorized the installation of 200 40HPgas engines to power the wind turbines off the coast of Nantucket in order to prevent doldrums during this year’s America’s Cup yacht races.

…..Goes on to say, “Why didn’t we think of this before?”

……Then a paragraph following to say an additional 50 wind generators will be installed downwind to take advantage of the “free wind” being generated by the previous 200 windmills.

    Hey, it could happen.

(At least it will give the impression that the windmills are doing something)

Finally, an Obama decision I like.

    “Do it for Teddy!”

  12. MinnesotaRush says:

Family & friends of the late liberal lion to o-blah-blah: “Please, oh please, Kenyan communist cat .. don’t do this for Teddy!!!”

Sycophant o-blah-blah to very small handful of dead liberal lion sympathizers: “Screw him! He’s dead!”

Tiny crowd to o-blah-blah: “Have you no pity, oh looney liberal leader?”

o-blah-blah: “No! No shame, either! Besides .. gotta save those phony tears for the white woman who raised me and civil rights leaders’ funerals.”

  13. crate says:

too funny… The Kenedy bunch is upset at the 0ne?
