‘Freezer’ Jefferson Finally Gets The Boot

From a shocked and dismayed Associated Press:

Louisiana voters oust indicted Rep. Jefferson

By CAIN BURDEAU, Associated Press Writer Cain Burdeau, Sun Dec 7

NEW ORLEANS – In a year when national Republican fortunes took a turn for the worse, Louisiana delivered the GOP two seats in Congress in elections delayed by Hurricane Gustav.

Indicted Democratic U.S. Rep. William Jefferson was ousted Saturday from his New Orleans area district, while Republicans narrowly held on to the seat vacated by a retiring incumbent.

The wins followed Republicans’ reconquest of another House seat earlier this fall that had been lost to Democrats.

In the 2nd Congressional District, which includes most of New Orleans, Republican attorney Anh “Joseph” Cao won 50 percent of the vote to Jefferson’s 47 percent and will become the first Vietnamese-American in Congress. His only previous political experience was an unsuccessful 2007 bid for a seat in the state legislature…

In a speech that was gracious but stopped short of concession, Jefferson blamed low voter turnout for his showing and said supporters may have thought he was a shoo-in after he won a Nov. 4 primary in the predominantly black and heavily Democratic district

Greg Rigamer, a New Orleans political consultant, said his analysis showed turnout in predominantly white sections of the district was double that in black areas

New Orleans voters had long been loyal to Jefferson, re-electing him in 2006 even after news of the bribery scandal broke…

“People are innocent until proven guilty,” said Faye Leggins, 54, an educator and Democrat who moved back to the city six months ago and still has fresh memories of Hurricane Katrina. She voted for Jefferson on Saturday. “He has enough seniority, so he can do a lot to redevelop this city.” …

This is great news of course. And congratulations to the locals down there from finally awakening from their stupor.

(Maybe nobody told ACORN that the elections had been delayed.)

But isn’t someone going to contest the results and demand a recount? After all, a Democrat lost.

Maybe that is why Mr. Jefferson did not actually concede.

(Thanks to BigOil for the glad tidings.)

Some good news from the AP:

La. voters oust indicted Rep. William Jefferson

    By CAIN BURDEAU

NEW ORLEANS – Voters in Louisiana ousted indicted Democratic Rep. William Jefferson on Saturday, instead electing a Republican attorney who will be the first Vietnamese-American in Congress.

Unofficial results showed Anh “Joseph” Cao denying Jefferson a 10th term. Republicans made an aggressive push to take the seat from the 61-year-old incumbent, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of bribery, laundering money and misusing his congressional office.

Cao, 41, won a predominantly black and heavily Democratic district that covers most of New Orleans.

A barrage of election-day automated telephone calls on Cao’s behalf flooded the district, including a pitch from the national Republican Party.

New Orleans voters had long been loyal to Jefferson, re-electing him in 2006 even after news of the bribery scandal broke. Late-night TV comics made him the butt of jokes after federal agents said they found $90,000 in alleged bribe money hidden in his freezer.

The same voters that reelected Nagin have decided to put the freezer on ice. Is the world coming to an end?

It would be interesting to see the democraphics of the county now vs. a few years ago.

Anybody wanna bet that the 97%-Obamy share of the population has declined precipitously now that Jindal is around and “governament assistance” is harder to come by?

  3. sheehanjihad says:

This corrupt bastard will never get what he deserves…which is prison time. After all, he’s a democrat. I am amazed that his demise was even reported as news. He has nothing to worry about either, they have lots of freezers in the Caymans and the Bahamas.

If we are truely lucky, Da Freezer and Da Juice can share a cell and talk about how whitey persued them and made them pay for a few mistakes! “Here come da judge….Here come da judge!!”

  5. DEZ says:

“People are innocent until proven guilty,” said Faye Leggins, 54, an educator and Democrat”

Does this moonbat think she is sitting on a jury, would she use this defense if it were G. W. Bush?
People like her would vote for Jefferson if he were proven guilty, they are as morally corrupt as the grifters they support.

  6. 12 Gauge Rage says:

One only has to look at politics in our nation’s capitol and realize how the corruption trickles down. Remember how D.C. mayor Marion Berry was caught on video smoking drugs offered to him by a lady of questionable character. And his only lame excuse was ‘The B**** set me up.’ And then the sheeple of D.C. re-elected him as mayor. Idiots.

I guess the new guy can take the bribes black American politicians refuse.

  8. MCHammer says:

Down here in Louisiana he’s known as William “Cold Cash” Jefferson. Ever since the Feds took his “spending money” he’s been having to fly coach.

  9. Lipstick on a PIAPS says:

Hmmmm, One Senate seat and two House seats going Republican post-Barak. I think I’m going to look foreward to 2010 and 2012. ;-)

  10. bobbys says:

Im not sure i can fault him for stashing the cash, after all he would be bumped up a tax bracket and have to “spread the wealth”.look at how much trouble Joe the plumber got in for even asking, No sir the only crime here was he was not “patriotic”.

“In the 2nd Congressional District, which includes most of New Orleans, Republican attorney Anh “Joseph” Cao won 50 percent of the vote to Jefferson’s 47 percent and will become the first Vietnamese-American in Congress.”

What is truly amazing, IMHO, Jefferson still got 47% of the vote..!!
It’s also interesting the AP turns this into a race issue without blinking an eye, all by quoting a “NOLA political consultant”.

“Greg Rigamer, a New Orleans political consultant, said his analysis showed turnout in predominantly white sections of the district was double that in black areas… “

Where are the facts and figures? How about precinct results to support his absurd statement?
Is the AP truly this void of any resemblance of integrity in allowing this obvious hack to spew his crappola with absolutely zero “fact checking”?

  12. brad says:

Gov. McGrevey, Gov. Spitzer, Detroit Mayor, now cold cash, but don’t worry, like Marion Berry, Clinton, Kennedy, Byrd, they still have a looooong way to go before the democrats kick them out of their party.

Who do you have to kill to get kicked out of the DNC? –Certainly not your mistress while you are driving drunk, vere off a bridge in ice cold water on a suspended license while your actual wife was waiting for you at home taking care of the kids—-THAT’S FOR SURE!

  13. 12 Gauge Rage says:

    brad,
So sad but true. Had it been any other average person like you or me pulling a Chappaquidick stunt like that they would’ve crucified us. Must be nice to be from a family of influence.

  14. Chinnubie says:

This is AMAZING that a Democrap gets ousted not for his illegalities(of course) but by the people that voted against an obvious criminal! How can ACORN let this one get by their radar? Oh yeah it doesn’t matter anymore because “The One” is going to lower the oceans and pay for everybody’s gas & rent/mortgage.

“The One” better get busy because a lot of companies out there are beginning to prepare for the inevitable and what is hilarious is the press reports this stuff like what a shame it is for a Democrap to loose his seat in Congress and how horrible it is for unemployment to continue to escalate. This is exactly what these people voted for so how in the world can anyone have empathy for these people. The next 4 years are going to be fun to watch because the “left” won’t be able to understand why all of these bad things are happening when they are the ones in power. The more they try to inject themselves & their ideas into the market economy the more it will get screwed up so, saddle up boys & girls this is gonna be a wild ride!!!
