French Shocked By IMF Chief’s ‘Perp Walk’

From those champions of equal justice for all at the New York Times:

French Shocked by I.M.F. Chief’s ‘Perp Walk’

May 16, 2011

Though horrified by [his] alleged crimes, the French press and political elite on Monday seemed perhaps more scandalized still by the images of Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s brusque treatment by the New York police, and his exposure in the American media.

Well, all things considered, it was more of a ‘frog march’ than a ‘perp walk.’

“I found that image to be incredibly brutal, violent and cruel,” the former justice minister Elisabeth Guigou told France-Info radio on Monday, referring to widely published photographs of a beleaguered-looking Mr. Strauss-Kahn, handcuffed and led by several New York police officers. “I am happy that we do not have the same judicial system.”

You have to think that the photos of Bin Laden’s corpse would have caused these sensitive people to come down with a case of the vapors.

Speaking to the same broadcaster, Eva Joly, a well-known French magistrate who once brought charges against Mr. Strauss-Kahn for corruption (of which he was later acquitted), agreed that “these are very violent images.” Ms. Joly, who is now a leader of the French Green Party expected to run in next year’s presidential election, added that the American justice system “doesn’t distinguish between the director of the I.M.F. and any other suspect.”

Apparently, Ms. Joly believes there should be different standards for the head of the IMF and some member of the great unwashed who can’t afford to spend the night in $3,000 a night hotel rooms. Which doesn’t sound very ‘Green’ of her.

Ms. Joly also suggested that the ‘perp walk’ images of Mr. Strauss-Kahn in handcuffs were a product of a justice system quote unlike the French one, because American prosecutors always needs to think about convincing a jury of a suspect’s guilt

Because an American jury would otherwise never see a defendant in custody. (Mind you, Ms. Joly is a "well-known French magistrate.")

The possibility that the parading of Mr. Strauss-Kahn in handcuffs could compromise his right to be considered innocent until proven guilty struck several French commentators on Monday.

“The heart can only contract before these humiliating and poignant images that they’re giving of him,” Jean-Pierre Chevènement, a leftist senator and former minister, wrote on his blog. “A horrible global lynching! And what if it were all a monstrous injustice?”

While acknowledging that Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s alleged crimes are “particularly serious,” Le Monde editorialized in its Monday afternoon edition, “When one of the world’s most powerful men is turned over to press photos, coming out of a police station handcuffed, hands behind his back, he is already being subjected to a sentence which is specific to him.”

“Grave question,” the newspaper continued. “Is it necessary that a man’s fame deprive him of his presumption of innocence in the media? Because if they must assuredly be equal before the justice system, all men are not equal before the press.”

Yes, we all know how the European press is obsessed with treating politicians fairly, especially rightwingers.

Just ask Silvio Berlusconi. Or, come to think of it, George Bush, Dick Cheney and even Karl Rove.

Perhaps the French surrender monkeys would like for us to parade the victim out before their cameras so they can march her off to the guillotine. Dominique looks haggard because he was caught and then treated like any other “perp”.
As for our judicial system compared to theirs………we don’t wear powdered wigs and we will off our monsters depending on the State you screw up in.
So Frenchies, don’t come here and think that because you have money you can do as your “urges” want. This is America…..screw up here and we’ll fry yo’ ass!

    I’ll make all of you a wager – –

    Dominique Strauss-Kahn

First, we know they couldn’t have bagged him if he wasn’t already a perv. That’s a given. It’s why it was an easy Op. You can’t do this sort of thing with men who know Billy Graham’s excellent advice never be alone in a room with a woman who is not your wife.

Second, we know Kahn is a Fall Guy stooge. Especially if he did rape the help. High profile crazies = three-name perps, almost always are. Like 99%. John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Mark Karr, John Wayne Gacy, Mark David Chapman – you see my point.

Third, France wanted Libya bad. For the oil. Then somebody called in NATO. France is not in good standing with NATO, never is. England wants Libya’s oil, too. Maybe you can see where this is going.

Whatever happens, I predict this is about Libya, and Kahn got his nuts handed to him over something it will take years to uncover.

gotta say, I like the way GBJ’s brain works. Don’t always agree, but at least it’s always spinning in the right direction.

      Yep, scapegoat for something.

  3. untrainable says:

Where are these horrifying “perp walk” photos? I completely missed them.
I need some new artwork for my apartment. Something light hearted. Something that I can enjoy. Yet something that effectively boils the concept of man’s inhumanity to man down to one simple statement.

“HA HA. AHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! Dumbass…”

  4. Right of the People says:

“the American justice system “doesn’t distinguish between the director of the I.M.F. and any other suspect.”

Over two hundred years since they dumped their monarchy and they still feel some folks are better than others. No wonder they’re such a f**cked up country!

Bloody well right the Brits and the Frogs want the oil. If you look back in history, it’s always, always about the money. Instead of gold like earlier in history now it’s all about the oil. The Brits and BP got kicked out of Libya and their assets taken and the want them back. Bloody wogs!
