‘Furious’ Obama Heading To Gulf – Again

From a cheering Associated Press:

‘Furious’ Obama heading to Gulf for spill update

By Nancy Benac, Associated Press Writer

June 4, 2010

WASHINGTON – Determined to project both command and compassion, President Barack Obama is returning to the Louisiana coast for a fresh reality check on work to stanch the oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico and the spiraling effects of the nation’s worst environmental disaster.

You see, even the AP realizes it’s all for show.

The president underscored the mounting political implications by abruptly canceling plans for a trip to Indonesia and Australia later this month.

Addressing a crisis that threatens to undermine his presidency, Obama spoke for many Thursday in declaring himself furious at a situation that "is imperiling an entire way of life and an entire region for potentially years."

Is Mr. Obama “furious” because he thought this crisis would help promote his political agenda, and instead, it is making him look ineffectual?

In any case, why is it so important that we hear how angry Mr. Obama is? Is governing out of anger a good thing?

Maybe Mr. Obama should wait until he has had a chance to calm down before he bans offshore drilling and makes other other drastic decisions that will cripple our economy in the future.

Friday’s trip will be his second to the Gulf in eight days, answering critics in both parties who suggest he has seemed detached from the crisis.

Polls show the public growing more negative toward the president’s handling of the spill.

Luckily, Mr. Obama doesn’t govern according to the polls. As his spokesman Mr. Gibbs has told us, they are like the crayon drawings of children.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs announced late Thursday that Obama was scrapping his foreign trip — which already had been postponed — "to deal with important issues, one of which is the oil spill." ..

While in Louisiana, Obama planned to meet with Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, who is overseeing the response effort, and with state and local officials, then visit Gulf Coast communities where lives have been upended by the spill…

He will also undoubtedly find the time to wash an oil soaked pelican. Still, it doesn’t sound like he will be doing anything to “plug the damn hole.”

The president visited the Gulf region twice in May, and Friday’s visit surely will not be his last, as the president tries to show he’s staying on top of the situation, without getting in the way…

How can the man in charge get in the way?

Anymore than, say, constant threats of criminal proceedings?

I wounder if he will comment about the 20,000 jobs that are going to be lost in LA in the next 12-18 months as a result of shutting down drilling?

  2. artboyusa says:

Why doesn’t President Miracle just walk out on the water, take a deep breath, dive down and fix the leak using his super powers? I mean, what’s the problem? If he hasn’t done it yet there has to be a reason and I think we have a right to know what that reason is…otherwise people might get the impression that BO is just a tiny bit less omniscient than he likes us to to imagine he is.

  3. proreason says:

He must be furious because bribes and threats haven’t plugged the hole yet.

Maybe he should have bought a deck with more than 2 cards in it.

    • GL0120 says:

Only 2 cards in his deck, PR?
Wow, I’ve heard of being a few cards shy of a full deck, but to be 50 shy, that could be a real problem for anyone other than Our Dear Leader.

  4. untrainable says:

Obie shouuld take a cue from his own history. If his visit has the same effect on the spill as his presence has had on the people he has campaigned for, LA is as doomed as Arlen Specter. He wants to make people think he cares. Standing on the beach playing with tar balls, and making an angry face ain’t going to cut it. He should send Slick Willie down there to charm the pipeline. There’s a man who knows how to “plug a hole”.

  5. mr_bill says:

    Dear Leader,
Why don’t you go play some more basketball or something. Maybe you can snicker with Bill Ayers and your hateful “minister” about your lack of support for Israel defending itself.

I think you have done enough to screw this country up. I know a lot of people have given you a hard time for your vacationing instead of leading this country, but from what I have seen of your leadership, I’d much rather you continued to go on vacations, maybe you can make a halfway decent golfer if you practice more. God knows you are a lousy president.

In short, don’t go to the gulf, you aren’t helping. Get out of the way and let the grown ups deal with this.

…”Determined to project both command and compassion….”

Expect to see this buffoon trodding the beaches wearing his borrowed pair of boondockers, a straw hat, and mattress-tick bib overalls, with a mouth full of Redman.

He’s nothing but an actor, and a piss-poor one at that. But I have to admit, he IS pretty transparent. All the polls show that most people down there find his faux concern of last week as nothing but a poorly orchestrated performance, so now he has to rush back down there and mend the self-inflicted damage.

    What a putz!

  7. Right of the People says:

Seeing his expression in that picture, I think someone should give him some Ex-lax.

What a show pony he is!

  8. Enthalpy says:

Obama can be as furious as he wants to be. And?

  9. Liberals Demise says:

Must be a beach party for his to show up.

He’s pissed because he has had to juggle his party calender to fit this in.
    Between vacations…..of course.

Lead by example ……… football head with ears!!
