Meteorologists: Global Warming and Cold Weather Go Hand-In-Hand

By Lisa Schlein
14 January 2009

The World Meteorological Organization says cold weather does not mean that global warming has abated.  WMO says people should not confuse weather with climate.

People in Europe are shivering, while people in North Asia and parts of Australia are sweltering.  Scientists say these weather extremes are to be expected and neither phenomenon can be used as a case for or against global warming.

Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, Michel Jarraud, says people should not confuse local weather variability with climate change.

Just because people in Geneva and elsewhere in Europe are shivering does not mean global warming has stopped.  He says the trend toward global warming is still there. "I think we have to be careful not to interpret any single event as a proof of either warming or the fact that warming has stopped.  When scientists look at the global warming, they take into account many, many old possible available evidence.  So, we cannot explain any single phenomenon by one single cause."

Jarraud says last year was cooler than the year before, but 2008 still ranks as the 10th warmest year on record.

He says average global surface temperatures have climbed significantly since 1850, when historical weather statistics were first recorded. "Global warming will mean that heat waves like the one we got in Western Europe in 2003 will become more frequent.  But, it does not mean that the 2003 heat wave was produced by global warming …  Last year, we know that part of the relative cooling was due to the La Nina phenomena, which was moderate to strong in the first part of 2008.  Then in the second part of 2008, it became closer to what we call neutral condition.  Now, it is a little bit unclear what will happen this year," he said.

Jarraud says every year, somewhere in the world weather records will be broken.  He says every year, exceptional weather events will take place somewhere in the world.  He says people have to look at the global picture to assess whether climate change is taking place.

Scientists say human activity contributes to climate change, but they do not agree on the pace at which climate change may be unfolding.

Bear in mind that this propaganda was brought to you by the Voice Of America, using taxpayer dollars.

Which, among other things, is strictly against federal law, which prohibit the federal government from engaging in propaganda against its own citizenry:

§ 1461–1a. Ban on domestic activities by United States Information Agency

Except as provided in section 1461 of this title and this section, no funds authorized to be appropriated to the United States Information Agency shall be used to influence public opinion in the United States, and no program material prepared by the United States Information Agency shall be distributed within the United States. This section shall not apply to programs carried out pursuant to the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961 (22 U.S.C. 2451 et seq.). The provisions of this section shall not prohibit the United States Information Agency from responding to inquiries from members of the public about its operations, policies, or programs.

This is known as the Smith-Mundt Act, which authorized the creation of information programs by the USIA, including Voice of America.

But never mind all that.

Global Warming has to be the most obvious scam of all time.

No matter what happens, they claim it proves their point. So, according to them, by definition, the scam cannot be disproven.

And millions of people in this country and others are too stupid to see through it.

It’s the BIG LIE, on steroids.

    • Colonel1961 says:

And you go by the moniker ‘proreason’ – hardly! Cold weather is obviously caused by global warming. Everybody knows that! Look, the science is settled and the debate is over! Damned right-wingers…

Now lets all go the Sahara and have a snowball fight!

  2. B17Engr says:

When you get up in the morning and look at the temp. it reads 10 deg F. Some places, including Europe, see below -40F.

    It’s all in your head.
It’s not cold outside, just put on your shorts and go outside where the snow drifts are only 3 feet deep.

Remember, It’s all in your head!

If anything, the Earth is actually getting colder because the sun’s ray can’t get through the smoke.
I said this last year before we had this COLD snap.

  3. BillK says:

Remember, this is why it’s no longer referred to as “Global Warming” but is instead “Climate Change.”

In that way any variation from “the norm” – cold, warm, rain, drought, wind – is America’s fault and is due to evil Carbon Dioxide emissions.

Remember a decade or so when the goal of environmentalists was hydrogen cars because they emitted “just CO2 and water?”

Now that would probably be judged more hazardous than what burning fossil fuels throws off…

…..”People in Europe are shivering, while people in North Asia and parts of Australia are sweltering……”

Of course, you dumb asses. When it’s cold north of the equator it’s frigid south of the equator, and vice versa!!

I don’t have a college degree, and even I know that. Make me “King-of-the-World instead of Obama and here’s what I’d do. Everybody would have to take a simple Basic-Knowledge test. I get to determine what the questions will be. (Not the answers–just the questions). If you fail, you are taken out and shot—with a shit-pistol! As a consolation prize, you would go on a list for a brain transplant.

These folks must be living in a parallell universe, right?

Can someone explain to me how the ‘data’ on climate change has been monitored sense 1931 (http://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/wcp/wcdmp/databases/index_en.html) when the first weather satellite wasn’t sent up until the 1960’s? They said they, “take into account many, many old possible available evidence.” But how many weather stations and data points did they have in the 1930’s in the US, much less the world or the arctics?

TIROS-1 – was launched and functioned for 78 days taking weather measurements and video with what we would call archaic technology. (http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2008/03/dayintech_0401) Today’s technology is much more accurate but I think its a stretch to say that we can combine it with old numbers and get accurate global climate results.

Why does everyone seem to believe that CO2 is causing global warming? It would seem to me that a much stronger (more logical) explanation would be the the magnetic poles are weakening. The British Empire has been monitoring the North from True North and has kept records sense the 14th century. Someone please tell me I’m wrong because I don’t think anyone can change/influence the magnetic poles…unless your God.

    • Colonel1961 says:

Yes, we’ve launched several weather sats (and are launching more) but I would have to say it would be the 80’s before data was consistent and normalized., i.e., the 1930’s data is BS. As is the ring/core data…

That bright yellow thingy in the sky (about 90 million miles away) that warms us up and around which we have an eliptical orbit and is nuclear and cyclical (spots, flares) in nature, is the only logical cause of the warming that actually stopped several years ago.

I’ll have to investigate the magnetic pole issue – not aware of that – does that mean my Boy Scout compass is no longer viable?

  6. Odie44 says:

Dr Lindzen from MIT has been dead on for over 40 years now, yet when one brings up this point ( A PhD from a renown science institution) they are shown bogus, garbage man-made “data” to “prove” otherwise.

I am stil waiting for the recalculation of “Greenland’s oceanic water rise due to mass melting”, considering they have found close to 40% may be terra firma and not ice…
