Gadhafi Captured, Wounded – Update: Dead

From a giddy Reuters:

Gaddafi captured and wounded: NTC official

By Samia Nakhoul
October 20, 2011

TRIPOLI (Reuters) – Deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has been captured and wounded in both legs, National Transitional Council official Abdel Majid said on Thursday.

"He’s captured. He’s wounded in both legs … He’s been taken away by ambulance," the senior NTC military official told Reuters by telephone.

What a coup for Mr. Obama! Literally. (As in, coup d’etat.) In fact, this could be seen as Mr. Obama’s second coup, if you count Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak. Which Obama took credit for. Actually, this could even be his third, if you count Osama Bin Laden.

And can it be a coincidence that Hillary Clinton was just in Libya? How long will it be before we hear how she took a personal hand in tracking down Mr. Gadhafi and capturing him. But let’s hope she didn’t have to shoot him personally, like Obama had to shoot Osama.

Also, according to other reports, Mr. Gadhafi was found in a hole. When captured he was crying out, ‘don’t shoot.’ Which sort of of sounds like the capture of Saddam Hussein, doesn’t it?

But of course the big difference is that Hussein was merely a diversion to distract us from our terrible economy at the time, whereas the capture of Gadhafi is wonderful, because it shows how ‘democracy works.’

Update: according to the latest reports, Mr. Gadhafi is now dead.

(We can’t wait to see how they spell his name on his headstone.)

As Expected, CNN gets it wrong about Gaddafi

Obama pledges U.S. support for Libya after Gadhafi

    By Tom Cohen, CNN
updated 2:32 PM EST, Thu October 20, 2011

Washington (CNN) — President Barack Obama on Thursday called the death of former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi both the end of a “long and painful chapter for the people of Libya” and the hallmark of a successful U.S. foreign policy.

“successful foreign policy” as opposed to what that evil Booooossh did.

In the first official government remarks on the killing of a longtime foe who was behind terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens, Obama pledged his government’s support as Libya builds a democratic system from the ruins of dictatorship.

And you know it will build a “democratic system” how, again?

“You have won your revolution,” he said.

    Oh brother.

Earlier, U.S. officials cautiously withheld comment as emerging reports that Gadhafi had been captured or killed emerged from Libya.

In Afghanistan, where she held talks Thursday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she had heard the reports but was unable to confirm them.

“Unconfirmed reports,” Clinton said after getting first word, via a Blackberry handed to her by an aide, of Gadhafi’s possible fate. When she first looked at the Blackberry, Clinton said “Wow,” then reminded aides around her that previous reports of Gadhafi’s capture had proved false.

Later, a State Department official familiar with the latest information from Libya said that while no firm confirmation could be made, it “looks like” Gadhafi had been killed. The official spoke on condition of not being identified.

Politicians were less reticent, with Sens. John Kerry and John McCain, both foreign relations veterans, and other legislators remarking on Gadhafi’s death.

McCain, an Arizona Republican who lost to Obama in the 2008 presidential election, called it a “great day” and said the administration he previously criticized for withholding full U.S. military capacity in Libya “deserves great credit.”

Way to go John. Guess you have nothing to lose when you’ve established yourself at the bottom.

“Obviously I had different ideas on the tactical side but … the world is a better place and the Libyan people now have a chance,” McCain told CNN.

Yes, but on the tactical side, you were correct and you should stick to your guns, you weasel.

Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat, said Obama’s policy of building a NATO-led coalition for the Libya mission “demonstrated clear-eyed leadership, patience, and foresight by pushing the international community into action.”

Which, by the way, was 90% US military and funding. So, how do you want to have it, “international community” or Obama’s “clear-eyed leadership”? You can only pick one.

“Though the administration was criticized both for moving too quickly and for not moving quickly enough, it is undeniable that the NATO campaign prevented a massacre and contributed mightily to Gadhafi’s undoing without deploying boots on the ground or suffering a single American fatality,” Kerry said. “This is a victory for multilateralism and successful coalition-building in defiance of those who derided NATO and predicted a very different outcome.”

“Prevented a massacre. There were thousands of Libyans killed. The mainstream media just didn’t report it. And nobody predicted a very different outcome. In fact, the outcome is yet to be written. The Muslim Brotherhood is very hungry and they are every bit involved in the toppling of the Libyan government and installing a sharia-based system.

Vice President Joe Biden noted the U.S. role in the campaign cost no more than $2 billion and no American lives were lost, saying: “This is more a prescription about how we ought to deal going forward.”

What can anyone say? Joe always gets it right.

However, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida complained Obama’s strategy unnecessarily extended the conflict by withholding full U.S. involvement and firepower.

“If the U.S. had gotten involved early, aggressively and decisively, today would have happened months ago,” Rubio said, later adding: “Sometimes you don’t just have to do the right thing. You have to do the right thing at the right time and I think this administration failed to do that.”

Hey, Marco, here’s an idea: How about we never got involved with Libya at all? It was a political eunuch anyway and it would be better to let the Libyans take care of themselves? Or do you think that “democracy” would be better served with Obama at the helm?

Clearly, it’s the end of one regime. But it’s much less clear, murky in fact that Libya has a long road ahead of it and only time will tell if freedom will come to light. They had it once, prior to 1969 but it’s been a generation since then. And, the islamic nutters are out there salivating at creating another obedient islamic nation, which is the more likely outcome. The Libyans celebration may be very short-lived indeed.

    1. I wonder how many times the news media is going to call it a socialist state?

    2. Gadhafi vows, “I will die as a martyr.” –found begging for his life in a sewer drain, which is the perfect place for a turd to be hiding out.

    3. I wonder if anyone is going to point out the lesson here and that is: Government is the main source of death, treachery, theft, and creating mischief in our lives.

“Obama pledged his government’s support as Libya builds a democratic system from the ruins of dictatorship.”

Seriously now, how much real hope is there for a democracy in Libya?

The record suggests that, apart from the European colonies and protectorates, the constitutional monarchies have been the most benevolent and peaceful governments in the Middle East … if not always the most successful and lasting governments, as they tend to be replaced by military coups, authoritarian dictatorships, and revolutionary Islamic terrorist regimes.

So remind me again exactly how many stable democracies have there been in the Middle East? Hmmm?

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Well, there is one. It’s called Israel.

But I don’ t think that’s the answer you were looking for.

    • Petronius says:

Bingo. Hand that man a kewpie doll.

The jury is still out on Iraq, which went from monarchy to Saddam Hussein to a democracy about to be swallowed up by Iran.

    • canary says:

It’s only going to get worse. Obama just pushes the Arab spring hoping that at least one of the muslim world countries will let him be their king. Obama will always remember embracing Gaddafi at that summit and Gaddafi praising Obama as a true muslim. Gaddafi’s hat style and attire is like African muslim hats and the Reverend Wright’s garbs.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

As has been discussed here many times, democracy and islam cannot coexist. They are diametrically opposed. Islam is based on mullahs and tribal elders and all that other stone-age bullsh*t that keeps the people ignorant, oppressed but most of all, obedient. Yes, I’m sure you’ve noticed that one of the top tools in keeping islam going is the cult leaders deriding what is a “good muslim” and what isn’t.

In stark contrast, Israel seems to get along fine inside itself with its citizens having freedom of speech, choice, religion, etc etc etc. And this, of course, pisses off the smelly sand-people more than anything; Right at their doorstep is the antithesis of islam. Happy, free people going about their daily lives, smiling, happy, content and productive. Families are strong, communities are strong, kids grow up to be successful participants of society.

Nothing is more annoying to a bully than to see people being successful without paying them much attention, except when they have to. And let me ask you: Over the last 50 years, which group of people in the middle-east has acted more like a bully, petulant and impatient child, and all-around little snot, “Palestine” or Israel? From the beginning, they had no claim on any land or lands and on the very face of it, the muslims, enraged, simply said, “OK, you put a nation in there that we don’t recognize, and we think you did it just to piss us off…well, WE will create a nation too, out of whole cloth and claim that we were there first.”

See? It always goes back to schoolyard games and childish mentalities. Israel has to pay attention to them now because their hissy-fits end up with Israelis getting killed. And, here’s another difference: The Israelis do not take any pleasure in killing “palestinians”. When Israel launches an attack against them and they are killed, you see no parties in the streets. You don’t see Israeli soldiers firing their weapons in celebration. No, they quietly and humbly go back about their duties.

They know that they could be killed in the next palestinian move. And always, there’s the question, “Why don’t they just leave us alone”. So…the sand-people have obliged them with a great many “answers”; All fabricated specifically to sound legitimate but when analyzed, are specious and false. In other words, they lie.

But that is acceptable. To them, that is. But again, I bring you the “thought experiment” where Israel is gone. Wiped off the face of the planet. Then, a tide of palestinians moves in and rips out every Jewish and Christian landmark that ever existed. So, ok…they’ll be happy, right?

Nope…the world still has people in it who are not reverent to the child molester, Moo-ham-id. So let’s take the experiment further, let’s go whole hog, so to speak and eliminate every religion that isn’t islam. The whole world is now islamic. How will that fare? Will medical science enjoy breakthroughs? Will transportation evolve to find new ways of propulsion? Will teh human race finally reach out and explore the solar system and with more and more complex robots? Will entertainment thrive? Will the arts thrive? Will pop music continue to evolve and cause parents to ask the eternal question, “What the hell is that kid listening to?”.

The world would STOP. No new advances in anything. Except, perhaps, some military technology that the mullahs need to get one over on mustafa because his third wife’s cousin’s second daughter’s brother looked at a pig. Or insulted him somehow in some convoluted, twisted and sick violation of an even more convoluted, twisted and sick “law”. So he must be avenged. Or, given that they seem to multiply like bugs, there would be no shortage of sword-wielding thugs. Helloooooo 8th century, where justice is served by the stronger/est.

But, the sand-people cannot see this. They still want to dominate and control and kill those who disagree with them. And, now, the national socialists, needing an army, are co-opting the muslims. Yup, the muslims will have no qualms beheading conservative Americans and when the national socialists feel they’ve done enough, the national socialists will let the US military go to town on them. And keep control for themselves.

This is the way I see it evolving. That is, if we can’t find any elected officials with any sense and concept of what’s really happening. So I’m an “islamophobe” because I find them to be everything I disagree with. When I go to walmart and see the burqa-wearing idiots, I want to scream. But the only thing stopping me right now is my sense of manners. However, I would not complain if they were all carted off to some other land…..like Mexico, which is known for its tolerance of others.

But, I think the day’s going to come in 10, 20, 50 to 100 years…somewhere….where the West is going to have to stand up to this and do what needs to be done.

    • sticks says:

If the whole world were Islamic Christianity, America and Israel wiped out and all other religions completely crushed would the Muslims be happy? No. They would then be battling with each other and killing their own (which actually they do now) because most of them believe that to be a really “good” Muslim you must be a blood thirsty killer, and according to the Koran the only sure way to get to heaven is to die in jihad. So after their done with the rest of us they have to get rid of the “bad” muslims, you can see where this goes. Just imagine if this happened with a Republican as president. The kooks out on Wall Street would be crying for Gadhafi and raging against the horrible murderous Republicans!

  9. canary says:

CNN reported he was found dead killed by “rats” killed Gaddafi in a tunnel he was hiding in.
Gaddafi does look chewed up; face, exposed shoulder teeth mark appears consistent with bloody splinter marks through his shirt and surrounding freshly trimmed goatee. Nipped hands & wrists posed to stop the rats chewing his eye balls out may have been his last moments.

Doesn’t look to me like he died in an ambulance or hospital. Perhaps the rats got to his legs first and we don’t get to see the leg wounds.

Doesn’t look to me like he died in an ambulance or hospital other than his lips are very red instead of pale.
