Gbagbo Offered A Professorship In US

From an approving CNN:

Source: Gbagbo offered US professorship to end crisis

From Zain Verjee, CNN

(CNN) — Laurent Gbagbo was offered the chance to teach at a university in the northeastern United States if he would renounce his claim to be president of Ivory Coast and end the country’s civil war, a senior African diplomat told CNN Tuesday.

The United States gave permission for him to lecture at the university and lecture anywhere else in the country as a visiting professor, the diplomat said.

We suspect that the offer was for a position at Harvard. Anything else would probably be seen as an insult to his standing.

In actual fact, Mr. Gbagbo has a doctorate in Art History from the Paris Diderot University. And he has even gone on strike in support of the teachers union. So he sounds like a perfect fit.

The strongman was also promised that the International Criminal Court would not seek to charge him with crimes, and his rival Alassane Ouattara offered to form a cabinet with up to 30% of Gbagbo supporters, the source said.

How lucky for him that the Europeans – who have overthrown him – are not going to prosecute him for trying to hold on to his job.

Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the African Union’s envoy on the crisis, urged Gbagbo to accept the offer.

Mr. Odinga claims to be Mr. Obama’s cousin. Maybe he can get Obama to put in a good word for Gbagbo at Harvard.

The mediator told Gbagbo his time was running out and it was the last deal he would be offered, the source said, asking not to be named discussing the details of sensitive negotiations.

Gbabgo rejected the deal, and Ivorian forces captured him Monday after French and United Nations forces pounded his stronghold over the weekend

Rats. Just think of the richness the man could bring to our country. But maybe he will change his mind.

Still, has anyone thought to offer such a professorship to Colonel Gaddafi? Maybe for a girls school? He would probably jump at the chance.

By the way, did you realize that Mr. Gbagbo is a Christian, and that his supporters are Christians and that his opponents are Muslim? Mr. Gbagbo is from the southern part of the Ivory Coast, which is Christian, mostly Roman Catholic. And that the rebels are from the north, which is Sunni Muslim.

Isn’t it funny, the details that we don’t hear from our watchdog media?

“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Professor Gbagbo and this class is Foundations of Art History. This morning we will be looking at some artefacts from the so-called Minoan civilization and also some examples of Greek sculpture from the Archaic Period. May I ask you to kindly put away any mobile devices and to take out your pens and notepads? Do it! Do it now! Don’t make me cut off your hands with a machete!”

“Bien. That is better. Now, as we regard these two examples you should immediately notice the distinct resemblance between the later Archaic piece on the left and the other slide, which is both earlier and is – from where? From when? Answer me! Speak now or I reach for my machete…”

“Um, that’s a temple sculpture from New Kingdom Egypt, Professor Gbagbo? 18th dynasty, I think”.

“Excellent! One hundred percent correct! Good boy – here, have a blood diamond!”

Christian!? Mon Dieu! Appalling. He must immediately be cast down, rubbed out.

Thank you Steve for this intel. I’m stunned, stunned I tell you that our State Media neglected to mention such critical details.

Speaking of mentioning nothing……where are the College papers that the media vetted on Obama?
What? You mean to tell me the media didn’t vette Obama as a candidate?
Maybe Gooboy should seek the job as President, seeing the media watchdog has rolled over and waiting for its’ belly to be rubbed.

Isn’t it curious that after 2 years of Obamy in office, African issues, which have 0.001% impact on the world (0.000% if you exclude the impact of oil) are beginning to dominate the headlines.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Exactly. I don’t give a flip about Africa or its problems. Never have…never will..and every single African I’ve met who lives here under diplomatic immunity, who has received sanctuary here (often at a 5+ digit stipend from the US taxpayer) has been ARROGANT and SELFISH and OBNOXIOUS. Granted, I’ve only met about 5. But they all acted entitled and aloof and had the damn nerve to talk down to me. Screw ’em. Let them die.

    • TerryAnne says:

Here in DC, the hard workers are the immigrants from Africa, while the arrogent and slovenly are the ones from the south of the border.

I’m putting my money on this being Columbia, not Harvard.

He would be right at home.
Maybe he can have an office next to Ward Churchill.
