George McGovern Urges Hillary To Drop Out
From the DNC’s Associated Press:
McGovern, former Clinton backer, endorses Obama

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—Former Sen. George McGovern, an early supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton, urged her to drop out of the Democratic presidential race and endorsed her rival, Barack Obama.
After watching the returns from the North Carolina and Indiana primaries Tuesday night, McGovern said Wednesday it’s virtually impossible for Clinton to win the nomination. The 1972 Democratic presidential nominee said he had a call in to former President Clinton to tell him of the decision, adding that he remains close friends with the Clintons.
“I will hold them in affection and admiration all of my days,” he said of the Clintons…
McGovern said he had no regrets about endorsing Hillary Clinton months ago, even before the Iowa caucuses.
“She has run a valiant campaign. And she will remain an influential voice in the American future,” he said.
But Obama has won the nomination “by any practical test” and is very close to a majority of the pledged delegates, said McGovern, who is 85. Obama moved within 200 delegates of clinching the nomination with his split decision on Tuesday of a win in North Carolina and a narrow loss in Indiana…
Mrs. Clinton should listen to him.
For if there is one subject about which Mr. McGovern is an expert, it is losing.

Still crazy after all these years.
As the Pennsylvania Deutsch say, “Too soon oldt, too late schmardt.”

No chance in hell. Hillary has a sense of destiny and probably built up a whole world in her head in which she rules. If Bubba himself told her to drop out she would probably knee him right in the Clinton jewels. If she can get Florida and Michigan counted, the destruction to her party would just be a necessary evil (a character flaw the whole country should consider).

Why did he have to bail out of that B-24? Couldn’t he have just ridden it in? Sheesh…

“Why did he have to bail out of that B-24? Couldn’t he have just ridden it in?”
Did he ever have to bail out? I know he got the DFC for having piloted his damaged bomber to Malta (or some other Mediterranean island).

I believe he did have to jump from at least one Lib, but if I’m wrong, I stand corrected.

Every derelict the Democrat party can dredge up now has an opinion deemed valuable enough to be newsworthy. Anybody heard from Gary Hart? How about Dukakis? Richard Gephardt? I know Bill Bradley can contribute something of value. What a pathetic bunch of losers. These idiots can’t even run a campaign, so how’re they going to run a country?
OK everybody. On three, let’s all give ‘em the Howard Dean scream. Assholes!!

Dukakis put his two cents worth in a couple of weeks ago.

Gary Hart had a go at it a month ago.

I hadn’t heard anything out of little Dick Gephardt since Iowa and who knows where Bill “The Giant” Bradley is.

Isn’t it time to hear from Governor Moonbeam? And Thomas “Puff” Dashell?

Hillary HAS to stay in the race - she’s got no choice - she owes herself $11.5 million and her campaign owes an additional $10 million (that we know of) and she’s only got $9 million in her coffers, so the reality is that she doesn’t have any choice - she needs to keep running to keep getting donations so that she can pay off her debts and get her $11.5 million back.
Now none of us here would piss on her if she was on fire, but lets be honest - she might be a liberal, but she isn’t stupid - she’s demonstrated over the years that she’s got political savy and is very calculating so if she doesn’t have a trick that she thinks will win her the nomination, you know that she’s got to have an exit strategy that will allow her to bow out gracefully, avoid being blamed for Obama’s inevitable defeat in November and maintain the good will of the party base so that she can run an “I told you so” comeback bid in 2012.
Mark my words.

I think it’s more about saving face, cigarskunk. At best she will be 64 years old before the opportunity comes around again, and more likely she would enter a subsequent race with higher negatives than she did this time around. I mean, people who think she’s a cranky bitch now can only imagine her hitting the campaign trail with four more years of pent-up anger on tap. Personally, I won’t count her out until I witness someone driving a stake through her heartless carcass. As for an exit strategy allowing for a graceful departure, I think it’s too late. She’s practiced the “slash-and-burn” method of politics for the last month or so, this time on her own party. She’ll have a lot of fence mending to do. If she should prevail, those disaffected democrats would have to come to her with the olive branch, a prospect she much desires. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely” as the saying goes.

Actually I’m beginning to admire Her Royal Clinton for not rolling over and handing the nomination to Obama The Movement - like Romney did to the conservatives by rolling over to McAmnesty. . .
My problem is that none of the 3 is the best America has to offer and will work to the detriment of American citizens safety, economical well being and concerns. At All.
So basically for the true American citizens it is choice between how fast and how seriously we chose to destroy America. . .
What a grand choice the DNC and RNC are offering us. . .

All the “fence mending’ in the democrat party will look good, but behind the scenes it’s going to be ugly. They’ll hold hands and smile for the cameras, but I’m not so sure Hillary and her minions will work too hard for Obama. Like everything in their party, it’s just going to be a smoke and mirrors facade.
If she can’t steal it this time she’ll be ready for 2012, but as JohnMG points out she doesn’t have a snowballs chance in hell.
cigarskunk, It is my humble opinion that the party leaders are finally seeing how damaging the Clintons have been to their party and they, like us, want only to drive that stake through her “heartless carcass” and be rid of them for good.
wardmama4, I too have found myself admiring her tenacity, but only for a fleeting moment. Once I think how harmful she would be to the country I snap back to reality.
If McCain would just shut his trap and stop insulting the right he could walk with ease over Obama into the presidency, but I have the feeling he’s going to screw it up for all of us. His ego just want allow him to sit quietly and watch Obama decentigrate. Heaven help us!
