German LA Arson Suspect: I Hate America!

From a selectively reporting Associated Press:

24-year-old arrested in Los Angeles arson spree

January 3, 2012

LOS ANGELES (AP) — It was another night of firefighters scrambling across the nation’s second largest city to snuff out a series of arson attacks when a tip came in about a German man who matched the description of someone with a shoulder-length ponytail captured on a surveillance video near where a car fire was reported.

Five hours later Harry Burkhart was pulled over by a reserve sheriff’s deputy who works for $1 a year and later booked for investigation of arson of an inhabited dwelling. Since the arrest, firefighters have not responded to any other suspicious fires…

Police declined to reveal any motive for more than 50 fires that have occurred since Friday in Hollywood, neighboring West Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, causing about $3 million in damage.

However, the 24-year-old who told officers he’s from Frankfurt may have been upset about his mother’s legal woes. When asked at a news conference about reports that an immigration problem with Burhkart’s [sic] mother may have been a factor, authorities declined to comment

Why the reticence? The police don’t seem to be reluctant to speculate on motives when they can be attributed to bias.

But more importantly, why doesn’t the AP report what they know about the suspect? Other media outlets have the information.

For instance, we have this from the Los Angeles Times:

Federal officials’ tip leads to arson suspect

Harry Burkhart, a German national, is arrested by a reserve deputy after authorities received word about a man who erupted in a tirade in Immigration Court. The fires caused about $3 million damage.

By Richard Winton, Ari Bloomekatz and Joe Mozingo, Los Angeles Times

[F]ederal officials alerted authorities that a Los Angeles man might be the suspect they were looking for, according to law enforcement sources.

The man had recently made a scene at a Los Angeles Immigration Court hearing, the sources said. An official involved in that court case recognized him when police Sunday night released images of a "person of interest" seen on a surveillance tape after a car fire at the Hollywood & Highland shopping center

Police later said [Harry] Burkhart was … a 24-year-old German national who carried travel papers from Chechnya.

Chechnya, huh? Why would he have travel papers from Chechnya?

He had spent time in Germany, they said, but had lived in Southern California for the last several years. They weren’t clear on his alleged motives but speculated that he might have been furious over his mother’s pending deportation.

A senior LAPD official said the suspect had attended a recent immigration hearing regarding his mother’s case and erupted in a tirade, spewing angry anti-American statements.

It was this incident that eventually led police to Burkhart. Several sources said the tip came from an official at the State Department

Let’s hope this official doesn’t lose his job.

L.A. detectives were also investigating reports that either Burkart or a family member was connected to an arson case in Germany, said the senior LAPD official.

TV footage showed Burkhart after his arrest, dressed in black, wearing his hair in a ponytail and grinning

And some additional detail from LA Weekly:

Harry Burkhart, L.A. Arson Fires Suspect From Germany, Says ‘I Hate America’

By Dennis Romero
Jan. 2, 2012

The man who terrorized L.A. for three nights with a series of 53 arson fires turned out to be a 24-year-old from Germany identified as Harry Burkhart, at least according to authorities.

"I hate America" were the words he reportedly uttered after he was pulled out of his car during a traffic stop at Sunset Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue shortly after 3 this morning following another outbreak of fires in nearby West Hollywood…

Burkhart had his hair in a ponytail during the stop this morning and seemed to smirk as bystanders snapped shots of him

KCAL9/CBS2’s Serene Branson found out from neighbors living adjacent to Burkhart’s apartment at 7274 Sunset Boulevard indicated his mother lived with him until recently…

So let’s review. The suspect is a foreign national, probably an illegal alien, who somehow has papers from the Muslim extremist hotbed of Chechnya. He is also a man who says he hates America.

But remember, the Associated Press merely described Mr. Burkhart as a 24 Year old "German man" who may have been "upset about his mother’s legal woes."

I’m not sure yet how this is connected, but it is being reported in the Canadian media that the van this individual was driving had British Colombia licence plates.

    Curiouser and curiouser…

  2. wtd says:

What are the odds, a German national with travel papers from Chechnya “dreamed of visiting Jerusalem” ? Curious, indeed.

Shlomo Elady, a hair stylist who regularly trimmed Burkhart’s long hair, recalled someone who spoke three languages, dreamed of visiting Jerusalem and cared for a sickly mother who had trouble walking.

  3. The Redneck says:

    What an idiot…..

If you hate America, why the hell would you firebomb Hollywood? That’s like firebombing a mosque because you hate Jews….

  4. ching chong says:

What’s this? Both criminals are immigrants AND white?!

What are the odds with such wholesome names like “Burkhart?” I demand to know where they were educated!

You always have to do the establishment media’s work for them. Early on there was a report that Harry Burkhart was a 55-year old German man. Then, after the arrest, and after several hours of delaying the announcement of his identity, the police finally said that their suspect was a 24-year old German. And then there was the mention of the Chechen papers. And the then the hatred for America, and the violent outburst in the courtroom over his mother’s deportation, and his arrogant sense of entitlement that he and his mother should be allowed to live in America, the land he hates. (The reason given why he committed the arsons.) And the writer above also writes of his desire to see Jerusalem.

You have to piece it together, it takes several days, meanwhile the elites and the establishment media have been purposefully enabling the lie that the man is an ethnic German and the blogosphere has been afire with everyone bashing Germans, whites in general, and equivocating this man with the thousands of examples of jihad around the world every day. “See, see? White people are terrorists too! Germans.” And then making the obligatory Hitler reference.

However, this man is a Chechen (I had guessed Turk when the story first broke when the only thing we had to go on was he was from Germany – like Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Ziad Jarrah, and Ramzi bin al-Shibh were “from Germany”), we then have to extrapolate from the age differential that he stole the identity of a 55-year old German man (the real Harry Burkhart), and he and his mother have been living in the U.S. on the taxpayers’ dime using the fake identity, while the mother has been wanted in Germany for some crime. (The reason for her deportation.)

But the banner headlines have read for days out of Los Angeles that it was a white, German and that’s the lie that everyone will remember, even if the truth finally leaks out despite the best efforts of the elites. Much like we were regaled for months by the ubiquitous Sgt. Moose who assured us that the Beltway Sniper was a “white man in a white van” with that story’s 24/7, wall-to-wall headlines, until it turned out that the shooter was actually a Black Muslim and his twink. Then, suddenly, … >crickets<

Because the police won’t tell you this (that he’s Chechen), and the media stonewalls the information that is available. (Effectively, the people who purchase their news from the drive-bys are paying them to lie to them.) But here in NYC when someone threw Molotov cocktails at four sites in Queens, every politician was bruising each other in the ribs to be the first to the microphone to lecture white America for their firebombing a mosque and some homes owned by Muslims (how was it known before the first news reports that those homes were owned by Muslims?), that this is a despicable example of Islamophobia (an invented concept by a Muslim Brotherhood front group), that the United States is an inclusive society and there will be no tolerance for such obvious bias crimes, yadda, yadda. Until, of course, it turned out to be a disgruntled black shoplifter from a store that was one of the targeted sites. Then, suddenly, it was, “Move along. There’s nothing to see here.” The story suddenly died. No follow up stories to read, and there won’t be. Because it wasn’t a white Tea Party member. Now THAT would be a media feeding frenzy if had been one of them.

So when there is no bias (two houses, a mosque , and a Hindu house of worship in Queens) there’s a media uproar decrying nonexistent “Islamophobia”, but when there is true bias (jihadi serial firebombing of homes and vehicles in LA) no one even learns that it was a Muslim jihadist who did it. And then, on top of that, the Islamist firebombing LA even gets blamed on ethnic Germans rather than the Chechen Islamist who did it.

  6. xuenbaookufn says:

    The fishy story.
The two Burkhart’s seem to have come to Germany from their native (!) Chechnya (formerly USSR) as ‘Chechen refugees’, applying for asylum in Germany.
On which grounds asylum was granted (religious, ethnic, war) has not been stated to the public.
There is no known ethnic German minority in Chechnya either.
Rather unusual names for Chechnyans they have.
Their knowledge of German is poor, English not very much better. They speak Russian.
They seemingly managed to get hold of a German permit of stay.
As the son produced valid Chechnyan travel papers when arrested in L.A., it seems obvious that they cannot legally be German citizens as Germany normally does not permit dual citizenship.
There were diplomatic channels and interpol involved in passing info to the U.S. Somewhat unusual for insurance fraud and petty embezzlement.
    Who really are these people?
If you have knowledge of German, and if not try google translate, read this newspaper article about a Dorothee B. from 2010: http://www.tz-online.de/aktuelles/muenchen/bayerns-fieseste-betruegerin-949483.html

    • Eagle in NYC says:

Actually, the mother at least cannot speak Russian. At the LA deportation hearing, the court provided a Russian translator who could not communicate with the mother (unless the mother was faking it.) The woman probably only speaks Chechen. I also wish we could stop referring to them as “Burkharts” as that was most probably a stolen identity. [Insert Life Lock advertisement here.] But it certainly is not a native Chechen name.

At least this doesn’t seem to be anything to do with Fight Club, like I originally thought..oops. Sorry. Forget I said anything.

  8. proreason says:

Pravda is apparently still clinging to the outdated notion that news articles should be sort of loosely tied to something or another that actually happened in the real world.

Politicians got over that restriction decades ago.
