I'll be at Bisley for the next two weeks or so. Think you could order up no rain during that time?

Here's the official statement from the www.direct.gov.uk website (check out paragraph 4, which is particularly helpful and enlightening:

Heatwave conditions have been confirmed across parts of the UK, as the Met Office has raised the heat health warning to level three for London and south east England.

Met Office heat health alert
"If possible, stay out of the heat during the middle part of the day"

Over the past few days, parts of England have seen temperatures climb to highs of around 31 degrees Celsius by day, but a key factor has been the night-time temperatures. Lows in some areas have not fallen below 18 degrees Celsius.

This has triggered heatwave plan alert level three. This means that high temperatures have been reached and sustained in one or more regions, with two consecutive very warm nights, a hot intervening day and a forecast of even higher temperatures.

These hot conditions will persist until Friday, with lower temperatures moving in by the weekend. English regions particularly affected by the heatwave and which have reached criteria for level three include London and the South East.

Head of Health Forecasting at the Met Office, Wayne Elliott said: "There are four key things to try and remember during a heatwave. If possible, stay out of the heat during the middle part of the day; cool yourself down; keep your environment cool; and look out for others, especially older people, those living alone and babies and young children."

One wonders if they tell you what to do if it gets cold, rains, sun goes down, doorbell rings etc. etc..
Personally I can't wait for the Official Government hand book on answering the telephone. Should be a good read!

We've had a lovely summer here in Southeast England...lotsa sun, just enough rain to keep the garden green. When it got over 90 the other week the government immediately issued urgent health warnings telling people how to tell if they were too hot (feeling "hot" and increased perspiration are key indicators, apparently) and how to protect themselves from the sun (like go into the shade).

It's been raining here in Germany everyday for the last week or so. It's not constant, but there's been some pretty heavy downfalls, when it does rain, it pours.
Aaargh! Global Warming!
Aaargh! Global Cooling!
Actually, all of my life we just called it "the weather".

You know... here in central Florida, even though we have had a number of mid 90s days, we have had far fewer of them than usual. It's in the mid to upper 90s most every day in the summer here. usually.

I'm particularly noticing it because we put in our pool this year and like the water temp to be 'theraputic" for arthritis...ie about 88-90 degrees.

It doesn't get that high unless the temp is 95+ for a couple of days in a row and we just haven't had that many days of that temp this year. And its already July. Guess we will have to buy that solar blanket after all.

Of course our humidity is gastly so it always feels stuffy and hot. But the actual temp seems to be lower more days this year.

Interesting.

But....we all know that the temp is low only because of global warming...(sarc off)

My brother runs a horse farm, and farms local produce in Rhode Island. His crops are rotten in the ground, ground which, when stepped on, squishes in an inch or so and the footprint fills in with water.

Out here in the Big Empty West, it's been so wet and cool the peach crops aren't developing. But ... Houston and Dallas continue to be Hades on Earth, so, they got them going for them.

Actually overheard a pompous overbearing 60-ish man in line yesterday dramatically informing the cashier that " ... if you knew anything about science, you'd know cool wet weather is THE surest sign of global over-heating! ... "

Around him people tittered and made sounds behind their hands which really PO'd the guy and he left in a righteous huff.

So, there's hope.

Alot of people in my area of Massachusettes keep laughing about "gobal warming", the only climate change here has been cold and rainy. It also stinks for the pool weather, it may hit upper 70's and low 80's now but the nights are hitting the mid 50's. Crops aren't growing too well and the beach isn't so great when you need to wear a sweatshirt to keep warm.

Melly, I spoke to some old friends from my old stomping ground in upstate NY -- close to buffalo. They said it's been 65 degrees and raining or misty each day since the summer began. Global warming, no way. :) If there were global warming, it might have helped upstate's economy -- their water reserves would be worth lots of money and everyone would be moving to the GReat Lakes to get away from the heat! Such a disappointment!

In spite of experiencing my first mini tornado here in southern NY - the weather has been glorious. I am not complaining at all. I would kill to be in Maine by the sea in any kind of weather - wimp tourists LOL.

Anyways - have not needed to install our A/C units yet and it's already mid July. The Northeast should be cheering about all the energy we are saving not running air conditioning etc.

There is another agenda that is more important than global warming.

The damage to the economy must be rationalized, and since the Moron has declared the Depression Stimulus is working, it can't be that. And "it's Bush's fault" is wearing a litttle thin.

Thank goodness the climate is cooperating as one explanation for the destruction of the wealth of the country.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Hahvad hasn't found religion, and that there are thousand of Hahvad exes on their hands and knees praying for a cataclysmic hurricane season, or even better, an asteroid hit, mega-volcano or even some terrorism in the red states.
