‘Global Warming’ Is Hiding In Deep Oceans

From those unshakable believers at Reuters:

"Missing" global heat may hide in deep oceans

Sun, Sep 18 2011

(Reuters) – The mystery of Earth’s missing heat may have been solved: it could lurk deep in oceans, temporarily masking the climate-warming effects of greenhouse gas emissions, researchers reported on Sunday.

Except that, as we noted back in March of 2008, there is no evidence whatsoever that the oceans are getting warming. According to National Public Radio, "some 3,000 scientific robots that are plying the ocean have sent home a puzzling message. These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years."

Climate scientists have long wondered where this so-called missing heat was going, especially over the last decade, when greenhouse emissions kept increasing but world air temperatures did not rise correspondingly

Or to put it another way, ‘climate scientists’ can’t understand why the incontrovertible truth of man-made global warming isn’t making the world hotter.

The world temperature should have risen more than it did, scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research reckoned.

They knew greenhouse gas emissions were rising during the decade and satellites showed there was a growing gap between how much sunlight was coming in and how much radiation was going out. Some heat was coming to Earth but not leaving, and yet temperatures were not going up as much as projected.

So where did the missing heat go?

Computer simulations suggest most of it was trapped in layers of oceans deeper than 1,000 feet during periods like the last decade when air temperatures failed to warm as much as they might have.

For the record, the aforementioned buoys "can dive 3,000 feet down and measure ocean temperature. Since the system was fully deployed in 2003, it has recorded no warming of the global oceans."

This could happen for years at a time, and it could happen periodically this century, even as the overall warming trend continues, the researchers reported in the journal Nature Climate Change.

In fact, it could happen whenever it is convenient to the ‘climate scientists.’ Unfortunately, according to those thousands of scientific robotic diving buoys the heat isn’t in the ocean, either.

"This study suggests the missing energy has indeed been buried in the ocean," NCAR’s Kevin Trenberth, a co-author of the study, said in a statement. "The heat has not disappeared and so it cannot be ignored. It must have consequences."

Er, maybe there just wasn’t any heat to disappear.

Trenberth and the other researchers ran five computer simulations of global temperatures, taking into account the interactions between the atmosphere, land, oceans and sea ice, and basing the simulations on projected human-generated greenhouse gas emissions.

These simulations all indicated global temperature would rise several degrees this century. But all of them also showed periods when temperatures would stabilize before rising. During these periods, the extra heat moved into deep ocean water due to changes in ocean circulation, the scientists said.

Could it be that their computer simulations are wrong? That it is a mistake to believe computer simulations where man-made global warming has been programmed into the simulation?

“Missing” global heat may hide in deep oceans

The mystery of Earth’s missing heat may have been solved: it could lurk deep in oceans, temporarily masking the climate-warming effects of greenhouse gas emissions, researchers reported on Sunday.

Climate scientists have long wondered where this so-called missing heat was going, especially over the last decade, when greenhouse emissions kept increasing but world air temperatures did not rise correspondingly.

The build-up of energy and heat in Earth’s system is important to track because of its bearing on current weather and future climate.

The temperatures were still high — the decade between 2000 and 2010 was Earth’s warmest in more than a century — but the single-year mark for warmest global temperature was stuck at 1998, until 2010 matched it.

Hey, we’re scientists, we’re never wrong.

That’s the great thing about computer simulations – you can program them to show anything you want, as they’re just simulations that don’t have to reflect actual data.

Once again, at times like this I’m ashamed of the scientific community.

they are grabbing at straws now, they cant even get computers to lie for them anymore lol

  3. BillK says:

As an aside, what do you think would happen to the “journal Nature Climate Change” if it were found to not be occurring?

Why would the journal print articles that might suggest there is no reason for the journal to exist?

It is sad to watch the devolution of the scientific method.

What was once develop a hypothesis and work to disprove it with data and experimentation…has now become develop a hypothesis that furthers a political agenda and prove it with computer models.

“The world temperature should have risen more than it did, scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research reckoned. So where did the missing heat go?”

Maybe they reckoned wrong. Either that or Bush took it.

  8. untrainable says:

They talk about the heat as if it is a stray puppy. Oh, the heat is hiding under the couch again.

How does that work exactly? Heat enters our atmosphere from space, decides where to go, does a cliff dive with a two and a half twist, hits the water and swims to the bottom, where it waits until… what?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. As soon as the weatherman can be correct 100% of the time about the weather this week, I’ll start listening to someone predict temperatures for the next century. Until then, it’s all just… hot air.

  9. Rusty Shackleford says:

“The mystery of Earth’s missing heat may have been solved: it could lurk deep in oceans, temporarily masking the climate-warming effects of greenhouse gas emissions, researchers reported on Sunday.”

This is rationalization on the “my dog ate my homework” scale.

Never once do they, in all the volumes of assumptions they have made, ever assume they might be wrong! They start with, “The Earth is warming because of increased use of fossil fuels” and then try really, really hard to get everything else to fit that assumption.

This is not science. This is no different than when the Papacy excoriated and put Galileo in house arrest for the rest of his life, only in reverse. The “scientists” have what appears to be more power than those who hold good sense dear and are now ganging up on those who disagree with them and pulling things out of their collective behinds to “prove” their misbegotten assumptions.

At the end of the day, they are making fools of themselves which, as we all know, is the basis for every condemnation of the “scientist” in every disaster flick ever made. I’m reminded of the movie “Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea where Walter Pigeon, as Admiral Nelson is attacked at the UN….and….in the same flick, where pack ice, when broken up, sinks and clobbers the submarine Seaview.

Yes, the scientists we have now who support all this baloney are on a level with the scientists in sci-fi flicks with one major difference: They’re wrong.

Now they’re really trying to come up with answers for why their data came out wrong. Well, good luck with that. Might I suggest a mirror?

  10. sticks says:

The reason the robotic diving bouys couldn’t find the heat is because it’s “hiding” deep in the ocean you know, like a giant game of hide and seek, under rocks, in caves, in thick clumps of seaweed. It knows to be very quiet and still whenever a robotic buoy comes by. Heat wins!

  11. Jim C says:

Global warming scientists are so smart, yet they forget what they learned in 7th grade science.

    1. Water expands when is cools. Ice occupies more volume that water, so when artic ice melts, sea levels will decrease.
    2. Heat rises. There is no way heat is falling into the ocean.

  12. Anonymoose says:

Good grief; that story was written by someone completely illiterate in science and just repeating the mantra. The dire doomsday end of the world drama is coming not from more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere but from the secondary effects of water vapor rising into the atmosphere, none of which is happening.

Look up about the Carboniferous Era—the planet at that time had worldwide rain forests–much more moisture in the air than today, and a carbon dioxide level *three times* what we have today, yet the temperatures were almost exactly the same as now.

    Ahem………..garbage in – garbage out!

  14. Papa Louie says:

“…it could lurk deep in oceans…”

“Could” is not a credible answer. Harold Camping COULD have been right about May 21st, 2011 being judgement day. Maybe we just missed it because It happened 1000 feet below the surface of the ocean with Neptune’s sudden arrival at Bikini Bottom. I’ve got as much evidence for that as these scientists have for finding the answer to the “missing heat”.
