Goats Rescued After 2 Days On 6 in Ledge

From the labor day weekend staff at the Associated Press:

Goats rescued after 2 days on 6-inch ledge in Mont

By Matt Volz, Associated Press Writer Fri Sep 3, 2010

HELENA, Mont. – Two young goats wandered onto the thin ledge of a railroad bridge and spent nearly two days high above the ground until rescuers in a towering cherry picker plucked them from their perch, hungry but safe.

The rescue occurred Wednesday 60 feet above a little-trafficked rural roadway in southern Montana between Billings and Roundup, after a caller told the Rimrock Humane Society the goats were stranded on the 6-inch ledge.

The young female animals weighing 25 and 35 pounds mostly stayed on the angled ledge, even though there was a wider surface area on a pillar just a few feet away.

"The whole time, we thought they were going to fall off," said Sandy Church, humane society president. "These guys are just babies."

Church said it wasn’t clear how the nimble-footed animals got into the predicament, but she speculated they wandered onto the ledge at night then froze after the sun rose and they discovered where they were…

We know just how they felt.

The sheriff’s office, Church and Cory Freeman, a humane society volunteer who runs the Animal Edventures Sanctuary, enlisted the help of officials at Signal Peak Energy, which operates a nearby coal mine.

Mine boss John DeMichiei volunteered mining equipment with an arm high enough to reach the stranded goats that eventually moved to the pillar

Evil ‘Big Coal’ to the rescue.

We’re sure there is a moral in here for all of us – somewhere.

Since I can’t find anything truly profound to say (other than if these are mountain goats – this is to be expected and their abilities on ledges that would make this look huge is amazing) – I will ask this question – How did Lady Goat A end up facing east when Lady Goat B is facing west? Shouldn’t the ladies be both facing the same direction?

One of the grander ponderings of life – given we have a plummeting economy, a dismal job market, facing the death panels of Obamacare and of course the continued faux ‘leadership’ of the empty suit in charge (whose had enough ‘work’ this week and is off to a vacay at Camp David) – how do stories like this even see the light of day?

Personally I appreciate a light story with a happy ending every now and then, they’re all too rare nowadays IMO. Not to mention the fact that I care for animals, sometime more than I do for people, to be honest. (Not directed at you wardmama.)

I blame either GWB, or Anthropogenic Global Warming. At any rate we’ll need higher taxes to solve this crisis.

On the bright side – Some donkeys might be joining them up on that ledge come November.

BTW that ledge looks bigger than 6 inches. More like a foot or more. Just saying.
