Gore: Offshore Drilling Like Invading Iraq

From the Politico:

Gore compares offshore drilling to invasion of Iraq

July 19, 2008

In a surprise appearance at Netroots Nation — which apparently was the worst-kept secret in Austin, Texas — former Vice President Al Gore followed up a speech by Nancy Pelosi by laying out a narrative on climate change and the energy crisis that seems ready-made for the Obama campaign to download.

“If you look at the seriousness of the climate crisis, you see how it ties to the economic crisis and the national security threat that we face,” he said. “200 billion dollars are being sent overseas just from oil.”

The idea that we can drill our way out of this is just so absurd,” he said, comparing the push for offshore oil drilling — which has gained popularity and put environmentalists on the defense — to dealing with a hangover by having another drink.

“The defenders of the status quo are the ones who have dug us into this hole,” he said, commenting that Americans have been “so often fooled into finding a remedy for a problem” that has nothing to do with the problem at hand — pointing to the invasion of Iraq when America was attacked by terrorists in Afghanistan as an example.

“The engines of distraction and the great concentrated power of communication that you’ve seen turned on this issue or that issue is already hard at work,” he says. “They will say we can’t switch away from oil.”

“We have to switch our electricity generation system,” he says, noting that changing transportation fuels will take longer, before reiterating his plan to ensure that “100 percent of our electricity [comes] from renewable sources and carbon-constrained fuels over the next 10 years.”

“It is not partisan, it is focused on this single objective,” he says. “we are trying to mobilize ten million grassroots activists.”

In response to a question about whether he’d join an Obama administration as climate czar, he says he’d rather “focus on trying to enlarge the political space in which political officials address this climate crisis … I have seen how important it is to develop a base of support.

This is crazy talk, even for a Yearly Kos Netroots Nation confabulation.

Do we really want such people in complete control of the federal government?

Ok - Solar (that blessing from the gods) has been around since 1930s - I don’t see panels on every house, nor are they being added in any great number nor required. . .

Wind - around for 20+ years - again - again, not seeing it in many areas nor being added in any great number nor required. . .

So my mind is - in a free market what is available, useable (in many ways and forms), cost effective and makes society go forward - Works and is Used. That that can’t be brought up and running or simply fails to pan out - dies and goes away. . .

That which works blossoms and grows - adds to life and humanity. That which doesn’t fails and there is a reason it should fail.

To purposely force a failure to be paid for by the citizens and/or quash a successful product - for shear personal purposes and/or gain - should be criminal, but at the very least is wrong.

Shame on Al and all the liberals, leftists, and Dems who are attempting to destroy America simply to hang on to the power and money they they grift from the citizens on a daily basis. . .

    good point wardmama.

I’ve had experience with wind and solar power. It’s VERY expensive and doesn’t produce the output that the MSM and Liberals lead you to believe. Out on my land we had 8 huge solar panels and 1 wind generator. (Cost thousands of dollars.) It barely produced enough energy to power the lighting in my cabin, the radio and the water well. If you wanted to run the microwave, you had to shut off all other sources of energy use. So would it be enough energy to power refrigeration and AC? hahahahahaha. Algore and his friends need to think up a more realistic approach to the energy sitruation and quit exagerating about how easy it is to solve. Like coal, nuclear, as well as drilling for oil and natural gas perhaps! (oh I forgot, that’s too sensible.)

Just a note: I have to admit though, that the huge wind genenerators on the wind farms do produce a lot of energy and are a feasible solution to the energy problem. But on a large degee, solar sucks. IMHO

Why isn’t algored using all this stuff at his house?

  5. sheehanjihad

Why isn’t algored using all this stuff at his house?

Because 1st, he is making money hand over fist cramming it up our butts…..by the way, he never will use it. Ever. It isnt economical, and his mega house couldnt run on solar power alone, much less an entire city, in spite of what this freak says.

Sure, we all sacrifice what was known as a good life to “save the planet”. Bullshit. We all sacrifice so Gore and his eco minions can live the good life on our dollar, laughing all the way to the bank that so many people were fooled so easily by that fat huckster.

As for wind generated power…..his big mouth could satisfy the needs of North America alone if that were the case. We have resources…oil and natural gas. Nuclear too. Drill here, drill now, and tell Gore and his ilk to go save Pluto. It makes more sense.

  6. BigOil

More atmosphere polluting CO2 spewing from the blowhole of the landwhale.

Newsflash to Algore. We have been drilling both onshore and offshore before you were born - producing the oil and turning it into gasoline and other fuels to transport your sorry rear end around the globe. If and when the liberals in government get out of the way, the energy crisis they created will soon diminish.

“The idea that we can drill our way out of this is just so absurd,”

You know, this is the ultimate in procrastination, for decades drilling close to home or in our own boundaries has been off limits or severely limited.
Gore and his minions tell us that we are sending billions of dollars over seas for crude oil, but drilling at home won’t help solve the problem, or that it will be a decade before we notice any rewards.
The answer they say is a magic solution know as alternative energy.
    What are these fanciful energies?
Hydrogen fuel cells? not something we are likely to see anytime soon, there is no infrastructure in place,
I have yet to see a single hydrogen filling station, let alone a single working cell to power a car,
And even if all this were to take place over night, there are millions of cars on the road that simply run on gasoline with owners that simply cannot afford the new cars that are not even being produced.
    So decades away at best.
Growing crops for fuel, nice idea, Right? Its not working out real well, it takes more energy to produce a gallon of fuel than we get in return, crop prices are lurching forward, and all the food supplies are dwindling.
The eco-nuts will never allow nuclear energy regardless of how safe it can be done.
Solar panels as has been pointed out are inefficient, expensive to produce and offer no immediate help.
Wind turbines offer a very limited solution, and the eco-nuts hate these non polluting mills as much as they hate fossil fuels.
No alternative source is in a near future scenario, yes they should be researched and sought out, but it is foolish to ask people to sit in the dark and freeze for the next few decades while scientists find a solution, or little green men land and fix all our woes.
Any one that tells us that drilling is not the most expedient solution to our problem is a liar or an idiot.

There are times when the complete ignorance, hypocrisy and lack of any common sense whatsoever of rich “eco-activists” renders me totally speechless. Everytime Algore opens his mouth, is one of those times.

  9. U NO HOO

““The defenders of the status quo are the ones who have dug us into this hole,””

Yep, the “don’t drill, not here, raise prices” jerks.

  10. Professor_Repulso

I keep expecting to see Al emerge at one of these gatherings wearing a long black robe and a pointy hat with stars and moons on it. The savior of the planet, if not the universe. In another major advance to protect the planet, Al and his Planeteers have developed a new wonder weapon to combat a heretofore unspeakable menace - ozone destroying human flatulence. I have seen the prototype of this marvel, known as the AG Anti-CH4 device. It is a standard issue pair of Fruit of the Looms fitted with a rectal tube and gas canister along with a spark arrestor. Filled canisters are to be turned in on a monthly basis to the Algore Anti-Flatulence Force where a disposal fee will be assessed and a fresh canister issued.

Am I the only one that has noticed that AlGore’s weight has gone up at a rate commensurate with that he claims for global CO2?

Perhaps it’s AlGore’s overconsumption of food driving our “current problems”…

  12. Reality Bytes

Any Al Gore appearance in the media is akin to when a classic DJ plays In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (by Iron Butterfly).

Both go on dreadfully long with shallow meanings but the good news they both allow for even the longest bathroom break.

I just Youtubed a Gore speak with In-A-Gadd-Da-Vida playing over it and you know, it kind of works.

Reality Bites: beautiful analogy, just beautiful, man…

(Too bad algore doesn’t have the kick-ass drum solo, though)

  14. Gila Monster

More hypocrisy from the Goracle and his elitist worshippers, from the Jawa Report and Americans For Prosperity.

My favorite Gorebot quote, “Well, I was going to take public transportation BUT I was running late so I had to take this here cab”, (looks like a Lincoln Town Car to me).
OK, that makes it all fuzzy and warm, right? LMAO..!!

  15. Reality Bytes

    Thanks Colonel.

And Now For Something Completely, well, actually it’s pretty much the same old drivel…

  16. Reality Bytes

OK - I’ve done it. Rush just played a byte from Algore and all I heard was

    “In-A-Godda-Da-Vida Honey”

“Don’t you know that I lo hu ve yu oo”

    “In-A-Godda-Da-Vida, Ba Bee”

“Don’t you know that I’l Ahl Wayz be True”

By the way, that 10 minute drum solo sounds like somebody finally throwing Algore down the stairs of his Ivory Tower.

In case you missed it, such luminaries as Hugh Hefner himself dug such groovey sounds. Check it out (no pun intended)

JFK : We will put a man on the moon and bring him home safely in this decade .
Timing and attainable . Algore , JFK wannabe : We must be carbon free in 10 yrs . Timing being around the landing on the moon on the 19th and 20th back in 1969 is too much of a coincidence . When big Al sez ” we ” , he means you and me . No JFK here , just a jerk with his own goals in mind . These goals are not for a Nation to get behind or for the world . These are petty goals of a greedy man .

  20. Reality Bytes

I Propose That By The Decade Is Out, That We Put Al Gore On The Moon.

Not Because It Is Easy (you have any idea how many lbs of carbon based rocket fuel it would take to blast his fat ass into space?!!), But Because It Is Hard (yeah, but worth it. Think of all the gas we’d save with his fat yap up there in the vacuum of space).

  21. Colonel1961

I love the photo, too: algore praying to the red star - priceless!

  22. wirenut

R.B. LOL . Colonel , nice catch on the star . Missed it myself . Note to wirenut : always check your background . Haw ! I know I’m not the only one thinking it . NUTROOTS NATION . algore?????

  23. pagar

I keep looking at the pictures of the Hooked One and the praying parasite and wondering which one America is in the most danger from?
