Trey Gowdy Hits Democrats On Selective Amnesia

From The Hill:

Gowdy hits Dems on ‘selective amnesia’

By Russell Berman | May 11, 2014

The chairman of the new Benghazi select committee said Sunday that Democrats criticizing Republicans for fundraising off the panel have “selective amnesia,” pointing to their money pitches related to tragedies like the Sandy Hook shooting and Hurricane Katrina…

Democrats have slammed the National Republican Congressional Committee for sending out a fundraising appeal mentioning the Benghazi panel that Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) moved to form last week. They have argued it supports their claims that the select committee is politically motivated.

Gowdy has repeatedly called for an end to fundraising on Benghazi, but Boehner dodged several questions last week when asked if he would do the same.

How wicked of him and the Republicans in general.

Here is the transcript of the full question and answer:

WALLACE: Isn’t this exactly the problem, the danger, the risk that you overstep your bounds, the GOP not you personally, you overreach, you make this political and as Congressman Becerra mentioned, you end up like going on a political hunt instead of dealing with issues that people deal with in their daily lives like Obamacare and jobs?

GOWDY: Yes, which is exactly why I said I will never, and have never, sent out any fundraising literature trying to raise money in the grief and the tragedy of four dead Americans and I have asked my colleagues to follow suit. But my friend and colleague Tommy Cotton from Arkansas did a magnificent job on the House floor of pointing out the duplicity and the hypocrisy of Democrats all of a sudden concluding that certain things are above politics. They raised money on Sandy Hook, they raised money on Katrina, they raised money on Iraq and Afghanistan. So for me, I will not raise money on Benghazi just like I never raised money using crime victims when I was a prosecutor, and I’ve asked my colleagues to follow suit, but it would be helpful if our colleagues on the other side of the aisle did not have selective amnesia when it comes to what’s appropriate to raise money off of, and what is not.

Rep. Gowdy could have also noted that even now the noble Red Woman, Elizabeth Warren is fundraising off of Benghazi.

From the Washington Free Beacon:

Elizabeth Warren is Fundraising Off Benghazi

By Andrew Stiles | May 9, 2014

On her website, Senator Elizabeth Warren writes:

All three of my brothers served in the military, and I know firsthand how much Americans serving abroad — and their families — sacrifice. What happened in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012 was a tragedy. Four Americans died putting themselves in harm’s way in service to peace, diplomacy, and their country. I look at what happened in Benghazi with sadness, with seriousness, and as yet another call to honor the men and women who keep us safe.

So let me be blunt: that kind of seriousness is sorely missing from the no holds-barred political theater of the House Republicans..

Medicine woman heal thyself!
