I'm nothing to say that others have not said. I think Gregg took the position in good faith and then came to the realization Obama is a thug who lies (who'd a thunk it?) and Gregg dropped out. Good for you, Senator Gregg. You said no - you would not allow your principles to be violated by The COMMANDER AND THIEF

"The Commerce Department has jurisdiction over the Census Bureau, and the administration recently took steps to assert greater control."

This must be Obama's version of reversing the executive branch's "power grab" of the last 8 years.

Term limits and get rid of lobbyists, in fact make it illegal to try and influence a member of government with any form of compensation. Unfortunately that would entail the very body we are trying to reform to pass the changes. Not going to happen short of a revolution. Maybe we could be like Biden and hit the reset button on the whole thing.

Pro, you have nailed it.

Time limits are a very MUCH needed thing. That would go a long way toward weeding out the deadwood. But that's also exactly why we won't get them!

I think I would only add to your reasons that if an honest politian wants to get a really good bill passed, something that is good for all Americans, not just a few, he DOES, as you say, have to play the game.

In order to get his honest and good bill passed...to get the needed votes...he must compromise and vote for someone else's pork....and on and on it goes...deeper and deeper into the muck until he comes out looking like one of the pigs.

Yeah, I do understand it...But its just so disapointing.

Makes me want to go kick the wall.

I agree with jobeth and howard that there are still a few honorable people in office, despite my usual rhetoric.

But they are very very few.

First, politicians have to distort their views just to get elected. That is corrupting.
Then, they get in that Washington sewer where they are surrounded by criminals of all sort.
Third, the bribes they are offered are so overwhelming that it takes a saint not to succomb.
Fourth, to make a difference it is easy to convince oneself that it is necessary to "play the game".

Try, just try to find a national politician who hasn't become rich beyond imagination in office. If you find one, THAT person should be running the country.

This is why I think that term limits are the only hope for the country.

Howard I hope you are right. But as you say, jaded sensiblities may color my views here.

I know he isn't "stupid" and I am ready to give him credit for wanting to work for something better for us, but from "within the belly of the beast"?

Sometimes you have to realize the beast you are trying to save will devour you. Better to work from afar and not from within the belly.

If Obalmy's cabinet was TRULY bipartizan I think he would have been a wonderful addition. Problem was it will never be bipartiaz...and as a DC insider he should be able to see that.

But I get your point. Thanks

"<em>He probably thought he could make a difference.</em>" I agree, proreason. I think he honestly saw himself as possibly a change agent inside the belly of the beast.

He wasn't "stupid" for taking the position. Our jaded sensibilities should also remain flexible enough to occasionally recognize men of integrity when we find them. Until we learn more, what I've seen of Gregg seems sincere and I take him at his words.

Ummm, that's a point...and in keeping with a lot of Washington mind sets...lib OR conserv.

Sad tho...if this WAS the reason it doesn't say much for him does it?

Talk about being tired....I'm weary of most ALL of the DC crowd.

I'm about ready to throw'em all out and start all over again.

My opinion......he was probably tired of having to contort himself to run for office and wanted an easy gig for a few years before retiring. And don't forget ALL national politicians are enormous ego-maniacs. He probably thought he could make a difference.

I am surely glad Gregg quit before he "stepped in it" but quite frankly, I can't for the life of me understand why he even considered ithis position in the first place.

Even the dumbest of us knows that there is nothing that Olbalmy and his minions won't do to hurt a responsible conservative cause.

They lie, cheat, pay off & twist any and everything to suit themselves.

What in the world did he think he (Gregg) could do to change any of that?

Playing in the pig sty won't clean up the pig sty!

I am disapointed that anyone as respected as Gregg would even consider such a position.

He had no chance to be of any help to the American people and would have been a sitting duck for any blame they wanted to throw his way.

Maybe its me...and someone, PLEASE show me why this might have been a good thing for Gregg or the Conservs,....but I just don't get why he would have even considered this position.

allah Obama should be President for free. Not even ask for a Lincoln penny from this country. Even then, he couldn't fill Lincoln's shoes. He'd still have his milliions from his book "The Dreams of my Father". Have to wonder if it wasn't his muslim step-father's dreams. His grandparents had to get him out of that American hating muslim school he was attending in Indoneisa
some of Obama's muslim ties he spoke of at the Demo retreat, when he also said it was time to stop the last 8 years of religous rhetoric.

This seems to have escaped attention: "Gregg has refrained from voting on the [stimulus] bill — and on all other matters — while his nomination was pending."

Was Gregg intentionally misled so that his vote would be neutralized on the pork bill? Seems like it, since he obviously accepted the Commerce nomination believing he would oversee the 2010 census. One more notch in the False Messiah's belt of deception.

There are about 20 states that have passed similar legislation. Then there are about 6 or 8 that are considering it.

It basically is taking back control of the currency and money. It is not denying that Federal Reserve notes are legal tender, it is just saying that it is not constitutional money via Section 10 of Article 1. And in that lay an enormous amount of power and the reassertion of states rights (9th and 10th),(and high time I might add).

All of this crap stops when the several states take back control of the pocketbook.
