Half Of ACORN NV Registrations Faked

From the Las Vegas Review Journal:

Illegal quota system, officials say, spurred ‘garbage’ registrations

By ALAN CHOATE
May 5, 2009

A voter registration drive last year illegally required canvassers to meet quotas to keep their jobs and resulted in thousands of "garbage" registrations gumming up Clark County voter rolls, officials said Monday as they released a criminal complaint against the drive’s organizers.

The complaint names the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN; Chris Edwards, the group’s former Las Vegas field director; and Amy Busefink, who was regional director for voter registration.

In all, there are 26 charges of compensation for registration of voters and 13 charges of being a "principal" in the alleged crimes. An initial hearing has been set for 7:30 a.m. June 3 in Las Vegas Justice Court.

"In Nevada, it is unlawful for a person to provide compensation for registering voters that is based on the total number of voters a person registers," state Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said.

ACORN’s canvassers, she said, had to gather at least 20 voter registrations a day to keep their jobs. There also was a bonus program, known as "blackjack" or "21 plus," which rewarded employees with $5 extra per shift if they brought in 21 or more completed registrations, she said.

Canvassers under pressure to keep their jobs turned in registrations with fake names and phony addresses — even, in one case, the starting lineup for the Dallas Cowboys, authorities alleged…

Scott Levenson, an ACORN spokesman, said that the group cooperated in the investigation and that charging the organization is "frightfully absurd." …

The charges are Class E felonies, the penalty for which can be probation or one to four years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000…

Larry Lomax, the Clark County registrar of voters, said his office reviewed the 91,002 voter registration forms turned in by ACORN and verified that information on the form matched information attached to the voter’s driver’s license number or Social Security number…

40,000 of the new voters registered by ACORN did not vote, and of those, almost 19,000 had information on file that did not match what was turned in on the forms.

"That’s 48 percent of those forms that I believe are clearly fraudulent," Lomax said…

Bonnie Greathouse, the head organizer at the Las Vegas office, said she was not worried about fallout from the charges.

"We’ve had bad publicity before, and all it does is inform the community that we’re here working for the community," she said. "People always come forward to our defense.

"We’re just community organizers, just like the president used to be."

Of course these charges will probably go no where.

And they certainly won’t affect ACORN’s national standing. They will still continue to get their government grants.

As Ms. Greathouse notes, people always come forward to defend ACORN. And, after all, they are just doing what our current President used to do.

(Thanks to BillK for the heads up.)

The big news of the day, which I’m surprised no one has reported yet.

    From the Las Vegas Review-Journal

Not surprising – ACORN does this everywhere they operate – but only Nevada’s had the guts to call them on it.

One wonders how He will make them pay for this; certainly Reid is getting an earful tonight.

I do, however, love the closing quote:

Bonnie Greathouse, the head organizer at the Las Vegas office, said she was not worried about fallout from the charges.

“We’ve had bad publicity before, and all it does is inform the community that we’re here working for the community,” she said. “People always come forward to our defense.

“We’re just community organizers, just like the president used to be.”

Note you can read that two different ways, the latter being that the President used the same tactics ACORN does…

    No different than the president.

From the outhouse to the whitehouse.

It’s easy to see he enjoys intimidating people. It’s not just his job, it’s his pleasure.

  3. Rusty Shackleford

The overwhelming ignorance about the consequences of their actions is simply staggering.

  4. Liberals Demise

This is soooooo sicking and the thought of these ghetto punks getting taxpayer money for committing crimes on the Federal level ………makes me wanna ………………………………..go postal!!

  5. 1 month after the election, ACORN posted states that they increased registered voters.
It was statistically impossible to back up their claims and get the so-called results they claimed. Impossible.
Here’s an example: 250k in Ohio alone? Ohio has lost population in the past 10 years, yet had an uptick of 15% in voting population, btw – with an aging population.

If anyone really cared, they could have used ACORN’s own info to question the registrations from the beginning.

Now that we are saddled with Bambi and his illegal tactics through a fraud election – its all ex post facto. At a minimum I expect their 503(b) status to be taken away… hahaha just kidding, these scumbags will continue to do their work, continue to “register” non existant people, without any retribution.

If we are to follow ACORN’s so-called “registration” standard – the American population will have 30% more registered voters…

Interesting their “Tracking Success” page is down…

They’re part of the government now Odie.

Was it in Ohio that a Congressman’s aid from another state, with others, set up temporary residents to vote twice? The aid was fired, but not prosecuted.
There is no accountability with Democratic leaders committing voter fraud, paying taxes. Can’t remember what state’s Senate race, the vote counter changed votes on the Senate race of those that mailed in votes. This is a big difference then chad’s being eligible.

Just wait until Rahm Emanuel gets control of the U. S. Census.

“We’re just community organizers, just like the president used to be.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself, unless I changed “community organizers” to “felons.”

    • JustinAC

Wouldn’t it be ironic is the President was charged with being involved with this. Not that a jury would find him guilty, but it would be fun to watch our ‘Felon-in-Chief’ talk his way out of it.

Being a thief and a fraud is bad enough; but an arrogant thief and fraud is a bit over the top. These folks obviously feel they can get by with their whole host of crap forever. Moreso now, ‘cuz “they got peeps”.

“We’re just community organizers, just like the president used to be.”

Should read .. We’re just angy, victimized, trouble makers, just like the president showed us how to be.

Disgusting pukes! The WHOLE batch of ‘em.

  9. Right of the People

As Ms. Greathouse notes, people always come forward to defend ACORN. And, after all, they are just doing what our current President used to do. AND STILL DOES!

I better go take my meds and lie down before I pop a blood vessel.

  10. Trogdor

Of course someone comes to their aid, the “Spendulous” Bill had $2 Billion for ACORN. They can be as corrupt, unethical and immoral as they want with that kind of cash.

  11. ThreeBus

This is why I will note vote from here out.

Obama didn’t WIN anything. He cheated.

Thats the way weird Al Frankin is going to win.

Nope. No more votes for me.

Not until Acorn is out of business and Obama is impeached.

  12. ThreeBus

My vote is only worth one.

A member of Acorns is worth 101.

    Can’t compete.

I’ll be happy to hear suggestions.

  13. Curmudgeon

Well, ThreeBus, I suppose I can only suggest that you do not make the member of Acorns worth 102 by your reckoning. If you give up and I give up that makes it 103… and it goes on… we cannot give up. We must do what we can, however small it may seem. Small things add up, ok?
What struck me about this article that hasn’t been pointed out yet is the “we’ve cooperated with the investigation, so prosecuting us is frightfully absurd”
Lets imagine a murderer “I showed you the body and told you how I did it”
or even a thief “I robbed the bank, here’s my mask, I spent the money, but you understand”
“Now I’ve cooperated with your investigation, so prosecuting me would be frightfully absurd”
    Are we in Wonderland???

  14. Liberals Demise

I figure it this way…..so long as BlackBarrys’ family is in the U.S. illegally and on the “Free Lunch” program, Acorn will continue to operate in the open as crooks!! (w/BHO blessings)

    Threebus :
    NEVER GIVE UP
    NEVER SURRENDER
    NEVER BACK DOWN

  15. My cats would like to register to vote. Where’s ACORN?

    They have people names.

They are all republicats. Well, maybe except for the one who was born in ‘da hood, but I’m working on his ability to do things for himself. LOL

Protests!, inspired Obama’s move to Chicago, inspired by images of the past on Black History tv, during the Civil Rights Movement’s protests. 134. He was very disappointed in his Chicago grass root leaders’ and workers’ responses to his idea’s of protesting in large numbers, because they said things were different now. But, they, like his fathers and mother, the books he read Marxim, lecturers etc. always talked about how bad things used to be, and those images kept him from giving up.
    It appears Obama was dishonest saying he did not know of Rev Wrights teachings such as Whites causing the black man to have aids. In dreams He tells of both the leaders and people he worked with talking and believing these conspiracys;
the Jews’ had doctors who gave black children shots with the Aids virus, and Koreans funded the Klu Klux Klan. . Obama explains that many of the blacks he worked with said this was “white race-baiting”, getting the races to fight within each other. page 203 2004 edition.
So, prehaps this explains Obama’s recent, mockery imitating the peaceful
tea-party goers as wimps, when he held his arm out and waved an imaginary tea bag in front of the recent MO town-hall audience of elementary grade to audlts. The tea parties were nothing compared to the Civil Rights Movement protests.
SO! for the Democrats ongoing complaining of Republicans being too hard,
or harsh, they are much bigger hypocrites than we believed.

  17. ThreeBus

Thanks all for the “chin up”.

Seeing this administration ruin my country has made me ill.

I’ll keep fighting with people like you by my side.

Speaking of Acorn, did you see the Glenn Beck interview
with Scott Levenson, their National Spokesman?

It’s a must see. On the front page here: http://www.moonbattery.com/

When they guy coulnd’t get his way with Glenn he screamed racism, and he’s white! HAH!!
