Report: Israel discusses freeing 1,000 Palestinians in Shalit swap
By Yoav Stern, Haaretz
Correspondent An Israeli delegation is visiting Egypt to discuss a proposed deal for the release of Gilad Shalit, an Israel Defense Forces soldier abducted by Hamas on June 25, a Saudi Arabian newspaper reported Friday.
The deal involves Hamas’ release of Shalit in exchange for Israel’s release of about 1,000 Palestinians held in Israeli jails, according to a senior Egyptian source quoted by the newspaper, Okaz. The paper said Egypt would help carry out the swap. According to the proposed deal, the Palestinian prisoners will be freed in three phases, with the first phase beginning three days after Shalit’s release, the newspaper reported.
The first 350 prisoners freed will be those facing light jail terms, the second batch of 350 will be facing medium-length terms, and the final batch - also of 350 - will be facing extended prison sentences, according to the deal. Jailed Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti will not be among the prisoners released in the deal, the newspaper reported. However, the Palestinian ministers and legislators who have been arrested by Israel recently may be freed if the Palestinians agree to form a unity government.
I can’t believe Israel would seriously consider this.

I thought they wanted proportionality, Proportionality, PROPORTIONALITY! How about Israel gives up two prisoners.

Excellent point about Israel’s “disproportionate” attack, Rak.

This is absolutely insane, 1000 for 1, truly “disproportionate”.
Hamas must be running low on “splodeydopes” and needs to fill up the coffers.
This is just as insane as Kofi Annan’s proposal and assurances that Syria will enforce the arms embargo into Lebanon, arms destined for the Hezbo’s.

DAMASCUS, Syria - U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Friday that Syria has pledged to step up border patrols and work with the Lebanese army to stop the flow of weapons to Hezbollah.
Asked whether such measures would succeed in blocking arms shipments to Hezbollah, Annan replied: “I think it can happen. It may not be 100 percent, but it will make quite a lot of difference if the government puts in place the measures the government has discussed with me. I have no reason to believe it will not be done.”
Does this stupid asshat really believe this BS from Syria? Tell you what Kofi, I have a bridge in Brooklyn and some oceanfront property in AZ for sale. Are you interested?
With “Einsteins” like this in charge, it’s no wonder the UN is such a truly worthless entity.

I hope this time the Israelis are smart enough to get their soldier back FIRST. Last time, the terrorists got many buddies back healthy and the Israelis got their soldier back, who had been chopped up in thousands of little bitty pieces. Blood thirsty devils!

Well, now we know the worth of an Israeli soldier. Or, is it the worthlessness of a Palestinian. Kind of reminds me of the story about the guys who propositions the woman, who says yes, and then decries the price he offers….he retorts that he had already ascertained her morality - they were just now haggling over the price.
They said it, 1 = 1,000
What idiots…..
