Harry Reid: Everybody Wants To Pay More Taxes

From the Weekly Standard:

Harry Reid: ‘Everybody … Willing to Pay More’ Taxes

By DANIEL HALPER | Oct 24, 2013

Senate majority leader Harry Reid says that "Everybody" is "willing to pay more" taxes. He said so in an interview with a Nevada Public Radio host.

“The only people who feel there shouldn’t be more coming in to the federal government from the rich people are the Republicans in the Congress,” Reid told the radio host, according to Roll Call. “Everybody else, including the rich people, are willing to pay more. They want to pay more.”

So here we go again.

Reid rebuked the Nevada Public Radio host when he was asked what Republicans would have to concede to get Medicare and Social Security cuts on the table.

“You keep talking about Medicare and Social Security. Get something else in your brain. Stop talking about that. That is not going to happen this time. There is not going to be a grand bargain,” Reid said.

Oh, the wonderful spirit of compromise.

“What we need to do is have Murray and her counterpart in the House, Ryan, work together to come up with something to get out of this senseless sequestration and start the budgeting process so that we can do normal appropriation bills.”

You see? It’s the sequester that has been stopping the Democrats from allowing there to be a budget for five and a half years.

Reid said Republicans would have to agree to more tax revenue to get anywhere near a bigger deal.

“They have their mind set on doing nothing, nothing more on revenue, and until they get off that kick, there’s not going to be a grand bargain on — there’s not going to be a small bargain,” Reid said. “We’re just going to have to do something to work our way through sequestration.”

So who is holding whom hostage?

  1. I have lost all respect for the people of Nevada!

  2. Pilfered from some other guys website …

    10) Only in America .. could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event.

    9) Only in America .. could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black while only 12% of the population is black.

    8) Only in America .. could they have had the two people most responsible for your tax code, Timothy Geithner (the head of the Treasury Department) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), both turn out to be tax cheats who are also in favor of higher taxes.

    7) Only in America .. can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have their media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.

    6) Only in America .. would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just ‘magically’ become American citizens.

    5) Only in America .. could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution be thought of as “extremists.”

    4) Only in America .. could you need to present a driver’s license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.

    3) Only in America .. could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (MarathonOil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

    2) Only in America .. could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion dollars more than it has per year – something like $7-million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn’t have nearly enough money.

    1) Only in America .. could the rich – who pay 86% of all income taxes – be accused of not paying their “fair share” by people who don’t pay any income taxes at all. And my favorite is that the U.S. Senate wants to grant amnesty to 11 million illegals and their families after a background check when the FBI can’t perform a background check on a Muslim terrorist in Boston despite the Russian government telling them he is a terrorist!

No matter where you got it, it’s a good get.

      only in America..

every president has had the Forth Estate criticized, critiqued, and condemn his words and actions, which resulted in a oval office meeting

to analyze and reevaluate the position,”what did we forget, not say, get wrong, how to fix, the people will never buy it,”or even re think something.

the Eternal Watchful all Seeing Eyes of the press, sometimes tough, sometimes lenient , were a factor that could not be ignored.

except today the Occupant in the White House has the unheard of Clemency from the media that was only granted Totalitarian Dictators.

never has The Executive Office thrived on this immunity to carry on without remorse.

I say once again, hasn’t anyone seen “Casino?”

The slimy legislator played by Dick Smothers is in real life supposed to be Harry Reid.
