Harvard Law Course: ‘Understanding Obama’

From the Daily Caller:

Obama admirer to teach ‘Understanding Obama’ class at Harvard Law School

By Caroline May

According to the Harvard Law School course catalog, professor Charles Ogletree will be teaching a reading group called “Understanding Obama” for one classroom credit during the 2013 spring term.

“This reading group will focus on the way in which race, religion, and politics have impacted the development of President Obama as a leader,” the Harvard Law School Course Catalog explains.

Mr. Ogletree, like so many Democrats, sees the world strictly through race-colored glasses.

“We will explore his views as a biracial child, his time as a student at Harvard Law School, the successes and failures of his political campaigns, and the way religion and his views on faith nearly derailed his campaign — "

Huh? Apparently, Mr. Ogletree believes Obama really does share the views of his ‘spiritual mentor,’ the right Reverent Jeremiah Wright. (And, of course, he is probably right.)

"Finally, time will be spent analyzing the challenges he faces as president of the United States in establishing both his domestic and global policies.”

AKA, racism from white people. Which accounts for all the criticism of and opposition to Obama.

Ogletree was a mentor to both President Obama and Michelle Obama while they were Harvard law students. In an interview, Ogletree explained to The Daily Caller that the reading group will deal with both the positive and negative issues surrounding Obama and his presidency.

“They’ll be reading both critical and positive issues about Obama — of what’s happened in terms of the way the race and religion have been viewed during his candidacy, his presidency, and how it affects the larger country; and some other classic reading on issues of law and justice,” Ogletree said of the curriculum.

Race, race, race and race will be covered.

According to Ogletree, his personal experience with the president, as Obama’s mentor, will not be a part of the reading group, though he made no bones about his admiration for Obama.

“I’m an Obama fan, I love the president — love him and his wife,” he explained. “They were wonderful people to serve as a mentor when they were here in the law school at separate times in the 1980s. There’s a lot to learn.”

He asserted that none of his personal feelings about the president will be a factor in the class and that there will be no grade, paper requirements or exam requirements

Gee, Harvard Law has stringent requirements.

“Everyone knows professor Ogletree is an uncritical admirer of the president,” one Harvard Law student told TheDC. “To me, this looks like course credit for participating in an Obama fan club.”

Hopefully, it will be more than that. Hopefully, they will help fundraise for Obama. And maybe do some opposition research on Mitt Romney, who actually graduated from both Harvard Law school and Harvard Business school.

Harvard Law School told TheDC that Harvard Law School J.D. students “must complete a minimum of 86 credits in order to graduate.”

According to U.S. News and World Report, tuition for a full-time student at Harvard Law School is $48,786 per year, making the cost of the three-year more than $146,000.

For the record, Mr. Ogletree has long been obsessed with race. He is currently Harvard’s Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, and the author of numerous books on racial topics. Including, When Law Fails, From Lynch Mobs to the Killing State: Race and the Death Penalty in America, All Deliberate Speed: Reflections on the First Half-Century of Brown v. Board of Education, Brown at 50: The Unfinished Legacy, Beyond the Rodney King Story: An Investigation of Police Conduct in Minority Communities.

Ogletree also involved himself in the ‘Skip’ Gates controversy. Ogletree even wrote a book about the events, ‘The Presumption of Guilt: The Arrest of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Race, Class and Crime in America.’

In fact, it is safe to say that Mr. Gates is as obsessed with race as the Obamas are. So it is also safe to predict that this course will be a diatribe about how all the criticism of and opposition to Obama is the result of white prejudice.

I wish the students would show up with pitchforks and staves and ride this motherless coot out of town on a rail – that would be “understanding Obama”

  2. Rusty Shackleford says:

“…there will be no grade, paper requirements or exam requirements…”

Which, therefore begs the question, “Then why have a course at all on this subject?”

Ans: Straight indoctrination. Voluntary at first until the school makes it a “mandatory elective”.

This is brazen, open, confrontational socialism.

  3. dasher says:

All I have to say is where in the hell were all these racists in November of 2008?

    • AcornsRNutz says:

Great question, considering if you run the numbers, if every single black voter in America cast their vote for this guy, it still wouldn’t have come close to getting him elected. Who made up that difference I wonder? (Jose, you pipe down.)

  4. BigOil says:

One wonders if they will also examine the boy king’s undoubtedly stellar grades at Hawvawd Law and how he worked to scrape up the 100K+ for expenses.

They may also want to dissect his insightful writings while President of the Law Review. So many accomplishments…where do you start? I guess they can always get a pair of Barry’s boots and lick them as they enter the classroom.

Frankly, “undertanding Obama” is a class better suited for the Psych department.

Frankly, “understanding Obama” is a class better suited for the Psych department.

  5. tranquil.night says:

This class sounds like it needs to be mandatory in all schools.

  6. Liberals Demise says:

Oh boy, “No racist left behind”.

  7. untrainable says:

As a prerequisite for the course, students are required to submit to a frontal lobotomy. That’s why there are no tests or papers. Properly prepared students are unable to hold a crayon, much less respond to outside stimuli. After all signs of intelligence have been rooted out with a knitting needle, understanding Obama should be a breeze. The grades will depend on the amount of drool accumulated on the desktop. Luckily, upon completion of the course, the students will be ready to run for office.

  8. P. Aaron says:

Yeah, like your computer engineering degree hinges on acing this course.

  9. canary says:

Harvard’s professor Ogletree’s Obama assignment is the type taking over all our schools.
The schools keep using our children for their own agenda, experiments, for National Certification.
Ogletree’s assignment will be on the internet and all the schools will follow.

“He asserted that none of his personal feelings about the president will be a factor in the class and that there will be no grade, paper requirements or exam requirements…”

So many wasteful things like this are being done in school. At least they won’t have to stand up and recite a memorized poem, pretending to be another race.

Ogletree has no doubt made an Obama collection of things to read, since he will not be speaking of any actual first hand info of Obama.

I hope that each class begins and ends with the Crimson version of “Barak Hussein Obama…mmm mmm mmmm”.

  11. Anonymoose says:

Yep, his entire career is about race:

It may not be “required” but I’m certain some students will take it to look good or to fit in with what the professor wants to hear. In the 60’s and early 70’s they revolted and dictated terms, now they want us to be quiet listen to them.
