Clinton: US, China leadership key to aid economy

By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writer

BEIJING – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says Washington and Beijing must work together if the world is to rebound from the financial crisis and she wants the Chinese to remain committed to investing in America.

"I don’t think it’s realistic to expect that we will see global recovery without Chinese and American cooperation and leadership," she said during an interview Sunday with the popular talk show "One on One."

With the export-heavy Chinese economy reeling from the U.S. downturn, Clinton has sought in meetings with President Hu Jintao, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and Premier Wen Jiabao to reassure Beijing that its massive holdings of U.S. Treasury notes and other government debt would remain a solid investment.

Yang responded that China wants to see its foreign exchange reserves — the world’s largest at $1.95 trillion — invested safely and to continue working with the United States.

"I certainly do think that the Chinese government and central bank are making a smart decision by continuing to invest in Treasury bonds," Clinton said in the interview, shortly before departing for Washington. "It’s a safe investment. The United States has a well-deserved financial reputation."

To boost the economy, the U.S has to incur more debt, she said. "It would not be in China’s interest if we were unable to get our economy moving," Clinton said. "So by continuing to support American Treasury instruments, the Chinese are recognizing our interconnection. We are truly going to rise or fall together. We are in the same boat and, thankfully, we are rowing in the same direction.

"Our economies are so intertwined, the Chinese know that to start exporting again to their biggest market, namely the United States, the United States has to take some very drastic measures with this stimulus package, which means we have to incur more debt." …

Ahead of her talks, Clinton said China’s controversial human rights record would be largely off the table, a blunt admission that startled rights groups

With China surpassing the U.S. last year as the world’s leading producer of greenhouse gases, Clinton said she and Chinese officials had agreed to develop clean-energy technology that would use renewable sources and safely store the emissions from burning coal.

Visiting a new gas-fueled power plant in Beijing, Clinton urged China not to repeat the "same mistakes" that Western countries made when they developed.

Lest we forget, Hillary’s only previous international experience, apart from dodging sniper fire and solving the crisis in Northern Ireland — was upbraiding the Chi-Coms in a speech she gave way back in 1995.

Of course, as we have discussed previously, the significance of that speech was entirely the product of Mrs. Clinton’s ever fertile imagination.

Nevertheless, our watchdog media seemed to expect Hillary to call the Chinese on the carpet.

They don’t realize the Chinese own the carpet. And the drapes.

So, instead, Mrs. Clinton kowtowed, cup in hand.

Why is the Secretary of State hocking U.S. Treasuries? Shouldn’t she be solving that whole Mid-East kerfuffle? Or helping Clooney fix Darfur?

I was in Seoul on Friday, the same day Hillary was. She made a special point to visit a well known women’s (only) university (EHWA). I guess she wanted to reiterate that she was a woman, and not Bill Clinton’s boyfriend.

I asked the Koreans if they cared or not, and generally, they didn’t even know she was in the country, and didn’t think a photo-op was all that important. One guy said that the U.S. treats Korea like the Israel situation: someone flies in every once in a while, wags their finger at both parties, then flies back to the U.S. —nothing is accomplished.

    Sorry Hillary, no one cared…….

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (L) arrives to a meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao .. lol .. look at the poor guys’ face in the picture .. lol .. his thought bubbles saying, “she ain’t no Lindsay Lohan!”.

“Ahead of her talks, Clinton said China’s controversial human rights record would be largely off the table, a blunt admission that startled rights groups.” .. What!?!?!? Isn’t she from the party of compassion??? Naww .. let’s talk bucks.

And finally .. “It would not be in China’s interest if we were unable to get our economy moving,” Clinton said. “So by continuing to support American Treasury instruments, the Chinese are recognizing our interconnection. We are truly going to rise or fall together. We are in the same boat and, thankfully, we are rowing in the same direction.” His thought bubble is sayin’ .. “Hmmm, I don’t think so. We’re not fallin’ anywhere with you; and by the way, our boats gotta motor!”

    • MinnesotaRush says:

Oooops! Is that “Rindsee Rohan” and “gotta mota” …. ???

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

“We are truly going to rise or fall together. We are in the same boat and, thankfully, we are rowing in the same direction.” So sayeth the socialista.

Very telling choice of words. Seems so….Marxist, doesn’t it?

As her husband used to say, “There go my people…I must follow them, for I am their leader.”

How HILLARIOUS. A lefty who has trotted out her superior compassion so often it almost seems authentic, and who depends on people believing this about her and her party – drops the pose when the real stuff is on the line.

Hillarious Clinton’s former boycott Olympics statement.

“The violent clashes in Tibet and the failure of the Chinese government to use its full leverage with Sudan to stop the genocide in Darfur are opportunities for Presidential leadership,” Clinton said in a written statement. ”

No one forced her to shake his hand. All the cooty shots in the world aren’t going to save her soul. Or is she thanking him for past gifts of a past visit she took with her wife Bill.

  6. brad says:

Yeah, what ever happened to all that “Boycott the Olympics!” banter from the left?

I guess you have to pretend Marxism-Lenninism is both a poison and a solution, depending on which nut-case activists in your party are loudest at that particular time.

“You can never underestimate the ability of the Democrats to wet their finger and hold it to the wind.” —Ronald Reagan

Hillary quote:”uh..up. U.S. is certainly the Obama administration. We want China to grow. We want the Chinese people to have a very good standard of living. What we hope is that you won’t make the same mistakes we made..ah..because I don’t think either China or the world can afford that.”

According to the reporter, this $$$$$$ smog in the air trip visit to China was telling them to go greener! So why didn’t she do this per conferance phone, or send the Chinese president a 42 cent letter.
What is really bizarre is the purpleness in her hand, and face is real. Watch the clip and camera on the handshake, and you can see her hand as it turns purple before your very eyes, as he vigoursly shakes her hand. Chinese have no respect for women. Why would Hillary tell them “we” want to see them grow, when they are allowed 1 child, and are killing girl babies, as boys rule in China. They are poisoning their babies with formula. Hillary is an expensive joke!!!!!!! And she laughs at America as she condemns America, as the worlds problem?

Oh, in several of the clips she’s doing one of Obama paw signature gestures where he touches the tips of his index fingers to the tip of his thumbs, it’s a yoga mediation thingy. I thought he did it to break his finger pointing habit, or wants a cigarette signal. It’s the oola lah ba ma ah. woof woof finger dance.
I saw where she guested on China’s version of the view, and they asked her to sing. oola.. lah.. ba.. ma.. ah.. in the jungle, the mighty jungle.. the lions eat our breads. oola ah oh ba, they want to have our heads..ooeeww wee oba oba yee yee yea.

  9. JohnMG says:

Hillary looks like Alfred E. Neuman in this picture…..only not as cute.

  10. canary says:

Check out the Obama and Hillary dance routine. Ooobaaamaakkk
