Host Indicted, Clinton Fund-Raiser Canceled

A Dec. 15 fund-raising event for Hillary Clinton at the home of prominent Mississippi trial lawyer Richard “Dickie” Scruggs is off, now that Scruggs has been indicted for bribery.
Bill Clinton was set to be the star attraction at the event at Scruggs’s Oxford, Miss., home. Hillary Clinton wasn’t scheduled to attend. It was the first event that Scruggs, who made a fortune suing the tobacco industry in the 1990s, had offered to host for Clinton, a campaign spokesman said.
It was canceled on Wednesday, after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided his home and the federal indictment was announced…
Over the years, Scruggs has been a generous donor to Democrats, but he’s also given money to Republican candidates. He gave $4,200 to Clinton’s Senate campaign in 2005 but hadn’t made a donation yet to her presidential bid. Scruggs’s brother-in-law is Sen. Trent Lott (R., Miss.), who just announced his intention to leave the Senate before the end of the year.
Federal prosecutors in Mississippi have alleged that Scruggs tried to pass a $40,000 bribe to a state-court judge who was hearing a dispute between Scruggs and another lawyer over fees related to Hurricane Katrina litigation. Four others were indicted as well, including Scruggs’s son, Zachary, and another lawyer in the Scruggs law firm…
Will there be anyone connected to the Clintons who isn’t in jail by election day?
(Of course, as the article suggests, this may have also had some bearing on Mr. Lott’s recent announcement about resigning by the end of this year.)
Over the years, Scruggs has been a generous donor to Democrats, but he’s also given money to Republican candidates.
This is a bit overgenerous. Mr. Scruggs has given far and away more money to Democrats than to Republicans.

The sleaze just can’t stay away from Shillary, but there’s so much of it, it can’t be coincidence. She actively seeks out the sleaze bags of the rich and famous. Her only problem is that they aren’t that bright, getting caught right and left with their hands in the cookie jar.

If you’re a business owner, company president, etc, and have even half a brain you are typically a Republican. Any business owner who is a Democrat is a Democrat for a reason, and that reason is that you are wanting to coerce politicans to change laws, give unethical business breaks, etc to your company. It’s just basic common sense that the right wing in this country, and most countries areound the world, are best for small business, and the left are all for the nanny state, steal from the evil rich and give to the pitiful poor. This never works for the business world, and the stupid left voters never seem to figure this out; that they are being taken, that the very people whom employ them are going to take a dive, and that very next person in the chain is them!
My point I’m trying to get to here is that you are seeing the business owners and entrepeneurs who have figured out that they can make a lot of money off bribing politicians into doing their dirty work for them, and the side that always works this way is the left wing, and the dirty laundry is coming out in the open here with another Clinton needing loads of cash.

Even as senators approached their task with grave purpose, an edginess crept into many of the discussions. At one point, Mr. Lott mulled aloud whether the caucus should hire a strong outside counsel to help guide senators through the trial.
Senator Thompson, a former Federal prosecutor and counsel on the Watergate committee, shot back with a suggestion that some senators took as a barbed joke. ”I got just the guy for you: Dickie Scruggs,” Mr. Thompson said, referring to the Mississippi lawyer who is Mr. Lott’s brother-in-law and who helped negotiate last year’s tobacco settlement that later collapsed in the Senate.

What a telling story, Cincinnatus. This guy must be awfully well-known as a sharp operator for that kind of a joke to be made. And look at the cases he latches on to: tobacco litigation, which made lots of lawyers lots and lots of dough; and Katrina litigation, which is going pay very well, too.
Lott has got a very slimy brother-in-law.

Scruggs made his first killing (no pun intended) with the asbestos class action lawsuit. He parlayed that money into tobacco, and has now moved on to HMO’s and Katrina.
A slimy class action trial lawyer - goes without saying.
