Hillary: Iran Headed Towards Dictatorship

From her undying fans at Al Jazeera:

Clinton ramps up rhetoric on Iran

Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, has said that Iran is heading towards a "military dictatorship" and warned it poses an international threat.

Clinton made her comments to students in Doha, the Qatari capital, on Monday as part of her Gulf tour seeking greater support for tough new sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme.

"We see the government of Iran, the supreme leader, the president, the parliament is being supplanted and Iran is moving toward a military dictatorship," she said, speaking at the Qatari branch of Carnegie-Mellon University

Mohammad Marandi, a political analyst at the University of Tehran, dismissed Clinton’s comments.

"If we give Hillary Clinton some more time she will be blaming Iran for global warming as well," he told Al Jazeera.

Good one, Mr. Marandi.

"Obviously the statements that she has been making over the past couple of days are quite dishonest, the fact is the United States has to deal with Iran on a rational basis otherwise it will get itself nowhere." …

Her comments come a day after she told delegates at the US-Islamic World Forum, also in Qatar, that Iran had left the world powers little choice but to impose harsh penalties against it over its nuclear programme.

She she told the forum, which is jointly organised by the Qatari foreign ministry and the US-based Brookings Institution, that "evidence is accumulating" that Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon.

The hell you say!

"Iran has consistently failed to live up to its responsibilities. It has refused to demonstrate to the international community that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful," she said.

PJ Crowley, the US state department spokesman, later echoed that sentiment in an interview with Al Jazeera.

"Given all the steps that Iran has taken and all the actions that Iran refuses to take, we can only begin to draw the conclusion that Iran’s intentions are less than peaceful," he said

Where have Mrs. Clinton and the rest of the State Department been — in a cave?

Iran has been a military dictatorship since about 1979. It’s been in all the newspapers.

Meanwhile, we have these cheerful tidings from Hillary’s bosom buddies in Russia, via Iran’s Fars News Agency:

Russia to Deliver S-300 Missile System to Iran

February 15, 2010

TEHRAN (FNA) — Russia’s security council announced that it is committed to the delivery of the S-300 air defense systems to Iran, noting there is no reason for stalling the process.

"There is the signed contract that we must fulfill, but supplies have not started yet. This deal is not restricted by any international sanctions, because these are merely defensive weapons," Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Vladimir Nazarov said on Sunday.

"Any of our actions must facilitate global and regional stability, respect for international law and international commitments, including the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and that is another matter," he added.

The possible sale of Russian air defense hardware to the Islamic Republic is a major irritant for Israel and its close ally the United States. Both have pressed Moscow not to go ahead with a deal that may help protect Iran’s nuclear facilities from threats.

"Russia has received and continues to receive many requests and even demands to supply or not to supply weapons. Those countries that are addressing such calls to us should better look at their own deals with Georgia," Nazarov noted.

Nazarov also said a military strike on Iran would be a big mistake and the problems linked to Iran’s nuclear program should be resolved through diplomacy.

"Any military action against Iran will explode the situation, will have extremely negative consequences for the entire world, including for Russia, which is a neighbor of Iran," he warned.

Thank goodness we hit the reset button with the Russians.

We certainly wouldn’t want them on the other side in our negotiations with the Iranians.

  1. Which is better? Theocratic Dictatorship or a military Dictatorship ..

or would the question be better asked: “Do you trust crazy people, or power seekers better?”

    • JohnMG says:

Maybe Obama should give Iran another stern “talkin’ to”!! Right after bowing to I’madinnerjacket.

    • joeblough says:

That’s pretty much it. A distinction without much of a meaningful difference.

Either way … a hostile dictatorship. And largely run by religious nuts — twelvers in all likelihood.

I can’t think what she imagines herself to be accomplishing.

I also can’t think why so many people think that bombing their nuclear facilities is going to bring on Armageddon.

They’re not that tough. And I don’t think the Russians or Chinese are any more eager to tangle with us than we are to tangle with them.

I think we’re at a point where we can guarantee what little business stakes Russia and China have in Persia. Hell. We’re doing plenty of business with both of them directly. It’s not like we’re giving the all that much competition for influence these days.

We ought to just do it and be done with it.

    • Neat thing is.. we don’t have to actually do anything.. The Israelis will happily oblige.. all we have to do is say “have fun kids..” then give a stern reprimand like we always do..

Once again, we see on display the complete disconnect that the political elites have between them and not only the American people, but common knowledge. I wonder if she took courses in college like “Stating the obvious 101” or, “Discovering that which has long been known”.

Hillary is another case of typical liberalism gone viral. I wonder though, how many here in the US, who would lick her comfortable, practical, yet still unattractive shoes clean, suddenly in an epiphany saw that “Iran might descend into military dictatorship” once the she-slug said it. In spite of its obviousicitude, its abundant portrayal worldwide since Carter and the Lamelights, the fact that they’ve been in the news on an escalating basis threatening repeatedly to wipe the world of Israel, I’m just a little surprised that Hitlery didn’t take notice.

I mean, she must read the papers, right? She found out somehow that BJ had a mild infarction and rushed to the hospital to make sure the will was in her name, right? So surely she must have at least scanned past something that had “Iran” and possibly the word “nukes”, or even “regime” in there.

One thing’s for certain from Obama, to Biden, to Holder to Pelosi, et al: When they display their ignorance, they do it thoroughly.

  3. wardmama4 says:

So exactly what is this pointing to in Lie-bral speak? Are they stating the obvious since they are so vapidly stupid and believe that We The People are even more stupid? Is this the toe stuck in the door, so that if Ahmadinejad does let loose the dogs of war (and the bomb that just happened to be constructed in the hidden nuke factory) – The Won could consider himself justified if he bombs Israel oops my bad, Iran? Or is this just more blah, blah, blah diplomacy to do absolutely nothing while pretending to do something?

I still like John Bolton’s response to the Obama ‘policy’ re: Iran – ‘Diplomacy is a technique, not a policy.’

And it’s going to get someone killed.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

When in doubt, mumble; when in trouble, delegate; when in charge, ponder.
      James H. Boren

Though loosely related, this quote kind of illustrates her position. Simply put, she is so far removed from everything, all she has left is to state the obvious in an effort to appear that she’s “working” at all.

  4. proreason says:

Where would we be without our betters to educate us?

  5. GetBackJack says:

    Headed For ….???

  6. Right of the People says:

To paraphrase Jim Mora, “Dictatorship, dictatorship, don’t talk to be about a dictatorship, were just trying to win a game.”

News flash from 1979; “Iran headed towards a military dictatorship.” so sayeth the Hildabeast.

  7. BillK says:

Come on, it’s not a dictatorship – they have elections!

Just like the Soviet Union did and Venezuela does.

  8. beautyofreason says:

Becoming a military dictatorship? As if it wasn’t before? Ha.

Here are a couple of quotes from Khomeini, the dictator of the Islamic revolution:

What Khomeini said before the revolution, from his home among naive French liberals:

“The foundation of our Islamic government is based on freedom of dialogue and will fight against any kind of censorship.” — Interview with Reuters news agency, Paris, October 26, 1978

And what Khomeini said after the revolution:

“Don’t listen to those who speak of democracy. They all are against Islam. They want to take the nation away from its mission. We will break all the poison pens of those who speak of nationalism, democracy, and such things.” — In a meeting with Iranian students and educators, Qom (3), March 13, 1979

“Those who are trying to bring corruption and destruction to our country in the name of democracy will be oppressed. They are worse than Bani-Ghorizeh Jews, and they must be hanged. We will oppress them by God’s order and God’s call to prayer.” — In a talk at the Fayzieah School, Qom, August 30, 1979

The the liberals even once trusted Iran’s claims on uranium enrichment (and Khomeini prior to the revolution) is evidence of how naive they are.

It’s great to be back on the site.

  9. GL0120 says:

    Iran becoming a military dictatorship?
I demand an investigation; why did the Bush administration hide this from us?
Imagine how our poor, beleaguered president must feel to have been blindsided by this news!
The Bush administration let him go through his campaign saying that Iran was nothing to worry about; they must have been laughing like crazy to hear him say that.
Sarcasm aside, allow me to express a three word opinion about this bit of news – “No S**t, Sherlock!

  10. Chuckk says:

Clearly it depends on what she meant by “military dictatorship,.” just like it depends on what the meaning of “is,” is.

  11. canary says:

There have beens so many religious scholars/authors on FOX & CNN who think Russia & Iran actions will start the 3rd world war, but, no telling at such a fast pace of changes in the world, that makes global warming threat a joke. Russia has alot of chemical warfare of mass production, and that’s another reason for Obama to impoverishing America by focusing on the environment.

  12. Mithrandir says:

Honestly, our government is sooooo broken with fraud, waste, and abuse, I can’t stand to listen to our politicians tell other countries what they ought to do, even if it is Iran.

*Do we really have the moral authority to export our political system to other countries?
*How about our pay-to-play “justice” system? (“We have all the money to prosecute you, but you have to afford your own private attorney, guilty or not.”)
*How about our system of earmarks for votes?
*How about our system of spending over a billion $ just to elect a president?
*How about no term limits, so the people can’t get away from abusive judges, or stupid people who elect the same oligarchs over and over again?

It’s the same old carrot and stick method our masters use on us: give or take money to do what they want us to do. Now look at Hillary? Threaten sanctions, then later when that doesn’t work, offer to lift those sanctions, then when that doesn’t work, offer billions of our tax money as bribes, then threaten to take that money away later…
