Hillary ‘Loaned’ Campaign $5M Last Month
From USA Today:
Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., addresses the media at her national headquarters Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, in Arlington, Va.
Clinton loaned her campaign $5M last month
“Late last month Sen. Clinton loaned her campaign $5 million,” Howard Wolfson, a spokesman for the former first lady’s presidential campaign just told USA TODAY’s Fredreka Schouten and other reporters in an e-mail. “The loan illustrates Sen. Clinton’s commitment to this effort and to ensuring that our campaign has the resources it needs to compete and win across this nation. We have had one of our best fundraising efforts ever on the webs today and our Super Tuesday victories will only help in bringing more support for her candidacy.”
Fredreka had asked Wolfson to respond to something said earlier today during a conference call that the campaign set up between strategist Mark Penn and reporters. Penn was asked if Clinton was going to use any of her own wealth (as Republican Mitt Romney has) to fund her presidential effort. He said he didn’t know.
The Clinton campaign raised about $108 million last year and says it took in another $13.5 million last month. Today, it appealed to supporters to help it raise $3 million more in three days.
It is looking for money in part because the race has not shaped up the way either the campaign or most pundits thought it would. Instead of wrapping up the nomination by yesterday, as the Clinton team had previously predicted it would, the battle with Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination now looks like it might continue for several weeks or longer.
Clinton is holding a news conference in Arlington, Va., and was just asked whether she will be loaning her campaign more money. She demurred: “I’m just going to leave it. … My campaign has put out a statement (and) you can see what I’ve done.”
She also said, about the loan, that “I believed the campaign would have a great month fundraising in January. We intended to be competitive and we were. … And I think the result last night proved the wisdom of my investment.”
I guess we now know where all those anonymous donations to the Clinton Library and the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation went.
But where is the FEC?
Shouldn’t we at the very least be able to find out who is buying the Presidency for Hillary — and why?

Good job, Hilldawg.
You have any other Ponzi schemes in mind?
The American health care system might be an excellent starting point, followed by Social Security, Medicare….

So much for her claim to be the representative of the little guy (or gal) in America!
Exactly how many of her “little people” followers would have $5 million to lend, let alone $5K?
She truly is incapable of embarrassment. To be found lending such a staggering (for the average American) sum simply drives home the point that this woman and her husband & allies are playing everyone for fools. In fact, that’s the cornerstone of her campaign, and the basis for her relationship for the voting public. It’s truly “limousine liberalism” on a scale seldom seen.
Why is it she’s given a pass by the media on such duplicity? (just kidding of course!)

HOW IS IT A LOAN?!!!! WHO PAYS IT BACK & HOW!!! I saw the FOX crawl last night that reported that “top Clinton advisors have not been paid in February” IT’S ONLY ONE WEEK!!! MY GOD THE SKY IS FALLING!!! Meanwhile, Mitt Romney gets blasted for FUNDING (not loaning) FUNDING his campaign (yes I’m yelling!!!).

Why is she just “loaning” it when Romney willingly gave it? Does she want it back, or think she should not have to contribute in any way if needed? How will her advisors wear their Chanel suits, especially the one profiled in her fashion spread in Vogue? I bet that one did not volunteer for no pay. She probably is holding her YSL pump over Hillary’s head for the money.

One way or another the taxpayers will get to repay this LOAN with interest.

redegg: My point exactly. A Clinton doesn’t pay, their influence peddling friends do it for them. But the their own press release “Senor Clinton staffers have not been paid for February.” FOR CRYIN’ OUT LOUD, IT’S ONLY THURSDAY!!!! And people buy this crap.

Why should this be any different from her standard modus operandi? Remember, for all practical purposes this woman has been on the public dole her entire adult life. Any and everything she and her philandering mate have ever done was accomplished with other people’s money.
Pathetic beggar!

“Pathetic Beggar!” JohnMG, you just nailed Clinton, Inc.’s social, economic model. Everyone begs, no one pays - ironically at the expense of the beggars for the Thief In Chief’s own gain.

$5 million is a lot for a 35-year public servant. Makes the hundred grand she stole trading pork bellies seem like walk-around money.
Dick Morris referred to a recent $20 million payoff from a UAE shiek as the source of this cash last night on Fox, but O’Reilly wouldn’t let him elaborate.
If this is true, at least it’s from a capitalist and not a ChiComm general.

Not defending Hilly by any means. God, no way. But in all fairness, all candidates donations to their own campaign are regarded as loans. It benefits all parties involved, and is the law in many states that candidate donations MUST be reported as loans.

nicotusc; “all candidates donations to their own campaign are regarded as loans.”
I didn’t know that. Are they required to pay themselves back? Are they allowed tax deductions for such? Unbelieveable!
