Hillary Offers Guam Citizenship, Cash For Vote

From the oft-times actual reporter, Jake Tapper of ABC News:

Stumping for Delegates, Clinton Pledges Voting Rights to Guam

May 02, 2008

Guam’s four Democratic delegates (not to mention its five superdelegates) are up for grabs in Saturday’s primary, and Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., has told residents of that Pacific territory that as president she will work to give them the right to vote for president.

Residents of U.S. territories do not have the right to vote in presidential elections, nor do they have full representation in the U.S. Congress.

In an interview with KUAM-TV, Clinton, asked about giving Guam citizens the right to vote for president, said, “I am in favor of full voting rights for every American and that includes the people on Guam.”

“It seems to me that it is long past time that we remedy this inequity,” Clinton said. “It doesn’t reflect American values; it is out of step with the move toward equality and full citizenship rights, and I will do everything I can to make sure the people of Guam’s votes are counted. It seems to me that it is long past time that we remedy this inequity. Clinton also expressed her support for legislation to offer up to $126 million in reparations to Guam residents for their suffering during World War II at the hands of the Japanese military, which occupied the island.

The U.S. would pay the reparations, since it long ago forgave Japan its war debts.

“I think sometimes it takes unfortunately longer than it should to educate people about the justice of a cause like war reparations, or for the people of Guam that suffered under the Japanese occupation during World War II,” Clinton told the Guam TV station. “All these years later we still haven’t provided the reparations that the people of Guam were promised. As your president, I will work very hard to remedy this injustice. I am committed to doing so.”

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, has expressed support for the reparations legislation as well

Is there nothing of ours the Democrats won’t give away to gain power?

But what about the citizens of Mexico?

How about a new law, politicians can only promise what they can cover out of their own pocket. You know, make them like you and me who are responsible for our own debts and pledges. Either that or allow me to legally offer Clinton’s money to the people I would like to bribe. Seems fair to me.
Secondly, anyone who has been to Guam can tell you that the island is a socialist paradise (read “stink-hole for normal people”) filled with govt. handouts and completely occupied by Japanese tourist. For the most part Japanese own the financial side of the island, her promise would be like funding Germany for having the terrible bad luck of having committed historical atrocities! Unfit to be dog catcher let alone president. (No offense to dog catchers, actually thinking of how a candidate would treat my lost pet seems like a pretty good way to judge character !)

Hillary was hoping for a coronation early on in this election cycle and finally she has achieved her goal.

I now crown her “The Queen of Pandering”.

    From the AP:

Barack Obama has won a close race, beats Clinton by seven votes on Guam

    By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

HAGATNA, Guam - Barack Obama has defeated Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic caucuses on Guam by just seven votes.

More than 4,500 island Democrats voted.

Neither candidate campaigned on the island in person.

Results of the all-night count, completed Sunday morning Guam time, show delegates pledged to Obama with 2,264 votes to 2,257 for Clinton’s slate.

The territory sends four pledged delegates and five superdelegates to the National Convention in August in Denver.

U.S. citizens on the island have no vote in the November election.

    So much for that.
