Hillary: “Steel Vise” Crushing Opposition

From an irony free Associated Press:

Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton hits the ‘reset button’ (misspelled on the button) with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on March 5, 2009.

Clinton says steel vise crushing global activists

KRAKOW, Poland – Intolerant governments across the globe are "slowly crushing" activist and advocacy groups that play an essential role in the development of democracy, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday.

She cited a broad range of countries where "the walls are closing in" on civic organizations such as unions, religious groups, rights advocates and other nongovernmental organizations that press for social change and shine a light on governments’ shortcomings.

Among those she named were Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Venezuela, China and Russia.

What’s this? We thought Mrs. Clinton had personally pressed the ‘reset button’ with the glorious Soviet Union Russia.

"Some of the countries engaging in these behaviors still claim to be democracies," Clinton said at an international conference on the promotion of democracy and human rights. "Democracies don’t fear their own people. They recognize that citizens must be free to come together, to advocate and agitate."

And she wasn’t struck down by a bolt from the blue.

Before an audience of several hundred senior government officials, Clinton recalled Winston Churchill’s warning 60 years ago at Fulton, Mo., that an iron curtain was descending across Europe. She noted that with the collapse of the Soviet Union, that curtain no longer remains.

"But we must be wary of the steel vise in which governments around the world are slowly crushing civil society and the human spirit," she said. Social activists, Clinton said, are being harassed, censored, cut off from funding, arrested, prosecuted or killed.

It’s hard to tell whether she is talking about current events or waxing poetic about the salad days of the Clinton administration.

Clinton’s speech came at the opening of a 10th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Community of Democracies, which has 16 members and is meant to forge international consensus on ways to support and promote democracy…

It truly is to laugh. We guess we are supposed to forget the way Mrs. Clinton and her husband demonized any opposition to their rule as a “vast rightwing conspiracy.” And the way they sicced the Secret Service and IRS and the rest of their formidable attack machinery on everyone who raised their voice in protest.

Apparently, we are also supposed to ignore Mrs. Clinton’s attempts to control the internet (“we need a gatekeeper”) and the air waves (via the ‘Fairness Doctrine’) and every other remaining outlet of criticism that still remains in the US.

Indeed, we also supposed to forget Mr. Clinton’s endless attacks on Rush Limbaugh, the Tea Parties, and the other voices of opposition, whom Mr. Clinton accuses of whipping up violence and inspiring domestic terrorism.

Once again, just when you think the Clintons couldn’t outdo themselves when it comes to outrageous hypocrisy they manage to reach still new highs. Or is it lows?

You just know, in her heart of hearts, Mrs. Clinton was secretly wishing that she and Bill had squeezed ‘the steel vise’ tighter.

Our next homosexual president nails it:

“Intolerant governments across the globe are “slowly crushing” activist and advocacy groups that play an essential role in the development of democracy”

But I wouldn’t say that the crushing of Tea Parties and other conservative groups is exactly slow.

And those silly rules of democracies are just “constraints” anyway. You know, like voting for our rulers and regimes and such. Commissars like Hillary are much better able to handle that chore….and at a reduced cost as well !!

We have seen the Clinton ‘Steel Vise’ crush supposed close friends and allies.
Most assumed room temperature before their time.

I had to laugh as I finished the article.
There is no doubt as to whose balls are bigger!

Why is Hillary so empathic to them, when her own country is agitated of the lack of democracy; or is she getting the message to Obama it’s ripe for him to play Hitler & proceed with his one world order.?

    quotes by Thomas Jefferson

“When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.”

“Democracies don’t fear their own people. They recognize that citizens must be free to come together, to advocate and agitate.”

“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.”

“No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms.”

“An enemy generally says and believes what he wishes.”

“As our enemies have found we can reason like men, so now let us show them we can fight like men also.”

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

      This is not from Jefferson.

Is forcing unwanted legislation on the country part of Hillary’s “steel vise?”

  5. NoNeoCommies says:

I think Hillary would love to have her own “steel vise” with the sensitive parts of her opponents in it.
I see “activists” of the left running rampant all over the world (except in Muslim run countries), so I guess she only means right leaning activists are harmed?
Maybe she is upset with the sheeple waking up to how “hateful” and “intolerant” activists on the left are.
