Hookers More Trusted Than Officials

From the UK’s Telegraph:

Police fear laws to criminalise men who pay for sex will be 'unworkable'

Prostitutes are more trustworthy than government officials, Chinese survey finds

Prostitutes are more trustworthy than government officials or scientists, a recent survey of more than 3,000 Chinese found.

04 Aug 2009

The online survey of 3,376 Chinese showed that 7.9 per cent of respondents considered sex workers trustworthy, putting them in third place after farmers and religious workers, the Insight China magazine said on its website.

"A list like this is at the same time surprising and embarrassing," said an editorial in the China Daily English-language newspaper.

"The sex workers’ unexpected prominence on this list of honour… is indeed unusual."

The newspaper said the list, based on a survey carried out in June and July, showed scientists and teachers ranked "way below, and that government functionaries, too, scored hardly better".

Soldiers and students were ranked after sex workers on the list of trustworthy professions, according to Insight China.

But the state-linked China Daily found reason for celebration.

"Given the constant feed of scandals involving the country’s elite, this is not bad at all," the editorial commented.

"At least (the scientists and officials) have not slid into the least credible category, which consists of real estate developers, secretaries, agents, entertainers and directors."

This is no surprise.

At least when you go to a prostitute you know you are going to get screwed.

    So I’ve heard…

  2. Chuckk says:

I thought there was no prostitution in China. No crime either.

  3. Georgfelis says:

I’m pretty sure if you go to a politician, you’re going to get screwed too. And they charge more.

  4. proreason says:

    At last, an honest survey.

  5. Liberals Demise says:

AHHHHH….at least you know where your money is going and you get what you pay for!!!!

Not like what our elected officials are doing to us whether we like it or not.

    That’s right!!

  6. catie says:

Well, between the two, I’d trust a prostitute over my Congressman & two Senators from the once-great Commonwealth of VA.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Where at in Va. you hail from?
Me? I was born in Norfolk (Navy brat) and and lived at the beach. Became too commercial for me! Now at Ft Bragg, N.C. area.

    • catie says:

LD, I lived at “The Beach” for about 10 years until I married my husband. I’m in Northern VA (which I cannot stand). I loved living in Hampton Roads and would live there again except my mother in law the lunatic (she really is-had two articles written about her and her ocd in the VA Pilot) lives there so my husband said we’d never live there again.
NC is a nice state. I used to drive through there a lot when I’d go home to visit my folks in FL. I was never stationed at Bragg when I was active duty. Seems like just about everyone is at some point but I never was. But I hear it’s a nice area.

    • JohnMG says:

How can you tell the difference, catie? Even Ronald Reagan said that politics bore a striking resemblance to the world’s oldest “profession”.

    • catie says:

John, overall they’re probably more trustworthy.

    • Dangerous says:

John, I’d heard a line a while back, something like “Politics is supposedly the world’s second oldest profession. I have come to realize it bears a striking resemblance to the first.” Was that Reagan?

  7. wirenut says:

From what I’ve heard, at least with the sex merchants, you know what your getting for your buck. Can’t say the same for our elected potlickers. I guess some still have standards.

  8. TwilightZoned says:

So I guess the old joke: How do you make a hormone…Don’t pay her-would apply with taxes as well, huh.
