Evil House GOP Wants To Cut Food Stamps By 5%

From the Associated Press:

GOP prepares bill to cut food stamps by 5 percent

By MARY CLARE JALONICK | August 1, 2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans are preparing legislation that would cut food stamps by as much as $4 billion annually in an effort to downsize a program that many conservatives say has become too bloated in recent years.

Only conservatives say that.

A group of Republicans led by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., has agreed to try to advance the legislation as early as next month. The measure would reduce the $80 billion-a-year food stamp program by as much as 5 percent.

"By as much as 5 percent"! 5 percent is probably less than the programs yearly increase, thanks to baseline budgeting. Besides, the economy is booming, hiring is skyrocketing, according to Mr. Obama and his minions in the news media. Why should anyone need food stamps?

House conservatives have urged major cuts as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, has doubled in cost since 2008.

The bill is certain to face strong opposition from the Democratic Senate and President Barack Obama, who have opposed major cuts to the program. They say cuts could drop millions of Americans off the rolls when they are already struggling from the Great Recession.

The ‘Great Recession’ (which was not particularly terrible, as recessions go) officially ended in June of 2009, which is more than four years ago.

Reps. Marlin Stutzman of Indiana and Kristi Noem of South Dakota, two Republicans who helped design the bill, said the legislation would find the savings by tightening eligibility standards and imposing new work requirements.

This is how our media guardians lie to us, day in and day out. The food stamp program always had work requirements. Mr. Obama removed them. (A detail buried in his first stimulus bill.) Just like he removed the work requirement for welfare.

So these wicked Republicans are just trying to reinstate the old work requirements.

It would also likely try to reduce the rolls by requiring drug testing and barring convicted murderers, rapists and pedophiles from receiving food stamps…

This is even more outrageous. Since it is clearly meant to target the Democrats’ core constituency.

Much of the estimated savings could come from requiring such adults to seek work, a provision that wasn’t in the original bill. The law already requires that they eventually work or receive work training to receive SNAP, but the 2009 stimulus law and waivers issued by the Agriculture Department since then have allowed states to set aside those work requirements…

So the AP finally mentions this detail, but only buried in their ninth paragraph. And only in passing. Also notice the conspicuous absence of any mention of Mr. Obama’s name.

The proposed bill hasn’t been released and its exact cost isn’t yet known, but the Republicans are estimating the cuts would be around $4 billion annually.

From a program that costs $78 billion dollars a year.

A farm bill passed by the Senate in June keeps the food and farm programs together and cuts food stamps by about $400 million a year, or about half a percent…

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, R-Okla., hinted Thursday that the differences are so "huge and dramatic" between the Senate bill and what the House is proposing, that the White House may need to get involved, something the Obama administration has so far declined to do. The White House supported the Senate bill but had threatened a veto of the House bill…

There will be a compromise of a 1% cut. Which means, thanks to baseline budgeting, food stamp spending will probably only go up 10%.

  1. Oh no. 5% less Fritos and Monster Drink

  2. Steve, I think you’re on to something. AP loves hiding the pertinent information in that ninth paragraph.

Today, in my little slice of America, is what’s called payday. Social Security, disability, SSI and most welfare payments are made to the 65%, at least, of my town that are on these programs. The grocery stores, there are two in a town of 1.2 sq. miles and there were 4 before the recession, will be packed, the gas stations and restaurants, Hardees, McDonalds, Abrams BBQ and a few others, will be packed. For one whole week the frenzy will continue. Then they roll up the streets, the street lights go back off and the sound of thumping Stereo woofers fades until next month. The sound of bouncing basketballs returns and people talking very loudly about nothing, from what little I can understand of the ebonics, into Obama phones as they pass my house all hours of the night. Even the gunshots quiet for another month as the drug dealers have no customers to fight over.
Ah, America. how sweet it is……….Thanks Li’l Hussein.

What an accurate, ahem I mean, RACIST thing to say.

Whew, glad I caught myself there. Denouncing your thoughtcrime is the only way to atone for my own.
