How ABC ‘Broke’ Ms Gingrich’s 1994 News

ABC Worked for Months to Get Marianne Gingrich Interview

The television interview of Marianne Gingrich, a former wife of Newt Gingrich, that will be broadcast on Thursday night was initiated back in November, when ABC News was looking into an old federal investigation that involved the family. The investigation was closed in 1997, but ABC’s curiosity about it led the network to court Ms. Gingrich for an interview.

So ABC News stumbled into this breaking news from 1994 while they were investigating another hot (non) story from 1997? No wonder the mainstream media is losing viewers.

By the way, we thought the families of the candidates were off limits to the press. Or does that rule only apply to Democrat candidates?

Weeks of conversations ensued, and last week she agreed to go on camera on Jan. 13 in Washington.

What was there to negotiate? Was ‘Ms Gingrich’ paid for her interview? Why aren’t we told, either way?

Once the interview taping was completed, conversations started at ABC about when and how to show the interview, said Brian Ross, the investigative correspondent who interviewed Ms. Gingrich. The timing posed problems for ABC — all the more so after The Drudge Report asserted on Wednesday evening that there was a “civil war” inside the network about the handling of the interview

“We don’t sit on stories,” Mr. Ross said in a telephone interview. But the network did want to give the Gingrich campaign some time to respond to the comments of Ms. Gingrich, he said, and did not want to broadcast the interview on Friday, so close to the primary

You see, ABC was only concerned about being fair to the Gingrich campaign. They didn’t want to air the interview the night before the South Carolina primaries. So they aired it on the night before the night before.

Besides, some people might miss the first showing, especially since it was aired on ‘Nightline,’ which nobody has watched for 25 years.

Ms. Gingrich granted a second interview on Thursday morning, this time to The Washington Post, which asked about the timing of her public comments about Mr. Gingrich. Citing the high number of interview requests she had received, she called the interview “unavoidable” and said “I knew I wouldn’t get through this year without” commenting.

Her agreement to be interviewed on camera, Mr. Ross said, “gives people a chance to look at her and make a judgment, not in person, but almost in person — how does she conduct herself? how does she come across?”

“She’s an ex-wife, so take everything with a grain of salt,” he said, “but I didn’t think she came across as outrageously bitter.”

We suppose it all depends on one’s definition of "outrageously."

ABC’s starting point was an F.B.I. investigation that took place in the mid-1990s.

“There was this F.B.I. investigation that began into whether Marianne was taking bribes to influence her husband’s votes as speaker,” Mr. Ross recalled, based on allegations that were made by an arms dealer but were never proven. Other journalists were pursuing the story at the same time as ABC; the Web site D.C. Bureau published a thorough story about it in mid-December

What another sterling example of journalism. The FBI investigates all sorts of wild allegations. Which is why their raw data files are supposed to be kept secret. Unless ‘journalists’ need to use them to smear a Republican, of course.

Mr. Ross said that at the same time Ms. Gingrich was speaking to his team about a possible interview, she was also speaking to “60 Minutes,” the news magazine on CBS

So was ’60 Minutes’ outbid?

But again, remember all the investigations that ABC News and ’60 Minutes’ did on Obama when he was a candidate?

The interview, about an hour and a half in length, was taped at ABC’s bureau in Washington last Friday. When The Drudge Report’s description of a “civil war” was invoked, Mr. Ross said he didn’t know where that came from.

“I know there was a discussion as to when it should go. My boss felt it should not go on Friday,” he said, because that would be within 24 hours of the voting in South Carolina. “I think they felt that to go on the night before a vote would just not be fair.”

That really is laugh out loud funny. If you like sick humor.

On Tuesday, the news division contacted the Gingrich campaign for comment. Mr. Ross recounted that the campaign “said, ‘Well, we’re going to provide somebody who will answer point by point everything she says,’” but had not done so as of Thursday morning.

Then The Drudge Report put pressure on all the parties involved…

No, the Drudge Report only boosted their ratings. Which is why they leaked the story to him in the first place.

They broadcast the interview on the day it would have the maximum effect.

    1. There’s no LESS CREDIBLE witness out there than an “ex” –anything. Most people understand this.
    2. Gingrich can just reply, “Now you understand why we are divorced.”
    3. Hey, Obama’s father married twice, and so did his mother. at least we are tied.

    4. If Republicans were smart, they would realize this is their golden opportunity to go after Rev. Wright, ask for bounties on any past g/f of Obama, or any past student who has anything negative to say about him. Follow Bill Ayers around, drag out Uncle Omar, and follow Aunt Zeituni every time she goes to Target with her welfare check. Investigate why Michelle Obama is not allowed to practice law in Illinois anymore, the communist roots of Obama’s mother Anne Dunham, how did he get into Harvard, look at college records, ..EVERYTHING.

You would think that SOMEONE would have looked into this by now. There’s a huge void on Our Dear Leader’s resume.

It’s just too bad someone does not offer a bounty for the first person to produce Our Dear Leader’s college transcripts, or anything else that can be found because it resides on a computer someplace. It is strange that there are NO photos of Our Dear Leader’s in college, traveling, with his bf or gf’s this is most puzzling.

Maybe we should start a Kickstart campaign for someone to produce them.

There’s a reason why no girlfriend of obamy has ever surfaced, and it ain’t because pravda has hiddent them from sight.

    Have I got this right?

The woman who broke up Gingrich’s first marriage (the one with two children) by committing adultery with the Speaker is now using her moral authority to complain that the Speaker committed adultery while THEY were married.

Next thing you know, Bill Clinton will be weighing in with his condemnation of the randy republican. Bill, of course, knows what sex is and isn’t, so he will be able to parse for us whether the Speaker did anything wrong.

Of course if Newt wanted his wife to always say nice things about him he could have not screwed around and stayed married to her (or them) but hey, having that free will will mess you up every time….

    QFT.

He didn’t screw anything up. The interview was going to be a dud probably without him hyping it.

Matt got played by Liberals appealing to his ego (14 years after breaking the Clinton scandal) and anti-Newt bias (which probably also goes back to that story).

Rush thinks pravda wanted to run the story Monday, after Newt surprised in SC.

That’s why pravda was concentrating on taking Mitt out this week (tax returns, Bain, Cayman), with the expectation that they would hand SC to Newt. Then lower the boom on Newt Monday.

He thinks that, rather than being played by pravda, Drudge ruined their plan.

Rush’s theory makes sense to me.

    • tranquil.night says:

Their plan was half-baked to begin with IMO, even for the MBM. But point taken on Drudge ruining it by forcing the controversy to get them to air it immediately. If Newt stands resilient in SC then it’ll be despite yet another wave of hack media onslaught, rather than having the SC results subverted by this.

And you know what? I hear that Gingrich exposed himself to a young woman when he was in Arkansas and lied to a grand jury when she sued him for sexual harrassment. And that he fondled an unconsenting woman the same day her husband was committing suicide. I also heard that he raped a woman; had a black child out of wedlock and had ash trays full of cocaine on his plane. I hear he was also known for smoking a lot dope..but according to him never inhaled…..what’s that? That wasn’t Gingrich? It was who? Clinton? As in Bill Clinton the twice elected democrat president of the United States, Bill Clinton?

Oh, sorry….in the words of Emily Littela …. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3FnpaWQJO0

ABC’s interview was blistering without the ex’s comments.

Obama is now focused on campaigning via private line.

Obama and his henchmen as the likes of magical media David Axle Rod aid who knows ‘how to take care of things’ all have their places, and no doubt being paid a lot.
