HSS: It Costs Up To $1,000 A Day To Care For Alien Kids

From the Agence France Presse:

Up to $1,000 a day to care for child migrants

July 16, 2014

Washington (AFP) – As US lawmakers grapple with ways to slash spending, many were shocked to learn authorities are spending $250 to $1,000 per day to care for each minor apprehended crossing the US border…

"One of the figures that sticks in everybody’s mind is we’re paying about $250 to $1,000 per child," Senator Jeff Flake told reporters, citing figures presented at a closed-door briefing by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.

Why did this only come out in a ‘closed door’ briefing? Doesn’t the American taxpayer have the right to know how much they are paying for these ‘gifts of love’?

Besides, if they are admitting to $1,000 a day, you can bet the real costs are many times higher.

"A lot of people were very troubled coming out of there."

Good thing this was a secret session. We wouldn’t want the American people to be troubled by what’s going on behind our backs.

Federal authorities are struggling to find more cost-effective housing, medical care, counseling and legal services for the undocumented minors…

Wouldn’t the most cost effective plan be to simply send them home?

For the record, there is nothing in the Constitution that says we have to commit suicide as a nation because of some damn provision that was slipped into a 2000 year bill in a lame duck Congress over the Christmas vacation.

Congress should just refuse to provide the money for this. And the border would have to be closed. Problem solved.

The base cost per bed was $250 per day, including other services, Senator Dianne Feinstein said, without providing details. "It goes up to $1,000 per day if you have to contract temporarily," she added. "That’s what they’re trying to avoid." …

Remember, we have been told that last year ICE released (at least) 37,000 illegal aliens with criminal convictions including murder and rape because they could not afford to detain them. But now we can afford to take care of anyone who walks across our border?

US officials predict some 30,000 more unaccompanied children will cross the border by the end of September, and that 145,000 will be apprehended next year.

Which means we will be spending $145,000,000 on them. Remember how we are always told illegal aliens are such a boon to the economy?

$1,000 a day?! I’ve stayed in some swanky hotels, but I’ve never paid $1,000 a day at any of them. Are they really saying that they’re spending between $91,250 and $365,000 annually to house each illegal intruder? How much does it cost to purchase a one-way commercial airline ticket to Guatemala. Don’t these “shillren” need to be re-united with their families (in their home countries)?
