Illegals, Congressmen Protest On ‘Closed’ DC Mall

Two updates on yesterday’s pro-amnesty rally on the ‘closed’ DC Mall.

First, from Breitbart:

Pro-Amnesty Forces Rally on National Mall

By Matthew Boyle | October 8, 2013

Several thousand AFL-CIO and SEIU sponsored pro-amnesty demonstrators began rallying on Capitol Hill on Tuesday afternoon around 12:30 PM to call for Congress to grant legal status to America’s at least 11 million illegal immigrants.

What are they doing protesting the ‘Law Of The Land’? Like the ‘letters of transit’ in ‘Casablanca,’ the ‘Law Of The Land’ can’t even be questioned, let alone changed. Are they trying to ‘cherry pick’ which laws they want to obey and which they don’t?

By the way, how come the AFL-CIO and SEIU aren’t protesting Obama-Care in the streets? (Hint: they already know they are going to get a carve out.)

The size of the crowd suggest the organization that put on the rally, the Center for Community Change (CCC), under-delivered on its promise to have “hundreds of thousands” attend the rally; the group tweeted on Monday afternoon and on Tuesday morning that it expected “hundreds of thousands” of people to attend.

Several members of Congress are in attendance at the event, including GOP Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL). Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) is expected to join the event soon as well, an organizer confirmed to Breitbart News.

How wonderful it is to see the Republicans ‘reaching out’ to the Hispanics like this. The GOP elite must be so proud.

Scores of Democratic House members also began arriving shortly after 12:30 PM on golf carts. House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is scheduled to speak as well, as are many different labor union officials…

All these Congressmen are challenging the ‘Law Of The Land’ they helped to pass.

Illegal immigrants and union members have been chanting “Si Se Puede!” the Spanish slogan of the United Farm Workers which President Barack Obama adapted for his “Yes we can!” campaign slogan.

And never mind that Cesar Chavez was vehemently opposed to illegal aliens.

The event on the National Mall, which is supposed to be closed because of the ongoing government shutdown but to which the Obama administration granted exception for today’s rally, is heavily funded by organizations like the labor unions and amnesty special interest lobbyists sponsoring it.

According to the Washington Times, Nancy Pelosi specifically thanked Obama for making an exception to the shutdown for these illegal aliens and union thugs and “enabling us to gather here.”

She also said veterans told her the administration “bent over backwards” to allow them to visit the World War II Memorial on the Mall, which has been the site of several clashes between the public and park rangers since the shutdown began." …

And we have this second update, also from Breitbart:

Dem Congressmen, Amnesty Activists Arrested in Immigration Protest

By Matthew Boyle | Oct 8, 2013

Democratic Reps. Charles Rangel, Luis Gutierrez, Keith Ellison, Joseph Crowley, Al Green, and John Lewis, along with several other pro-amnesty activists, union members, and other left-wing protesters, got themselves arrested on purpose on Tuesday afternoon in a statement made in support of comprehensive immigration reform.

Once again, what part of the ‘Law Of The Land’ do these people not understand? But of course none of them were arrested for that. They were arrested for blocking traffic. Which is another ‘Law Of The Land.’

Only a few hundred demonstrators participated in the part of the rally that led to the arrests, while several thousand rallied on the National Mall earlier in the day.

Not ‘hundred of thousands’?

NBC’s Washington, D.C. affiliate reports 200 were arrested on scene while a couple hundred activists cheered the demonstrators on from the sidewalks on both sides of First Street between Maryland Avenue Southwest and Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest. Officers broke out barricades to keep activists on the sidewalk, as AFL-CIO and other union organizers wearing orange vests with their organizations’ namesakes emblazoned on the back organized the crowd…

At least 150 Capitol Hill police officers were on scene to arrest the protesters who sought to be arrested. Capitol Hill police officers are not being paid as a result of the government shutdown, so they had to work for free.

Even though the House passed a bill to fund the DC government, including the police.

The amnesty activists also littered signs, papers, flyers, and other materials for their cause along the street, forcing the unpaid Capitol Hill police officers to clean up the street in the shadow of the Capitol building up after them. Officers could be seen bending down to pick up the trash left along the sidewalks, as hundreds of amnesty activists cheered those being arrested…

These people never clean up their messes. They always leave them for others.
