Cameras at petrol stations will automatically stop uninsured or untaxed vehicles from being filled with fuel, under new government plans. Downing Street officials hope the hi-tech system will crack down on the 1.4million motorists who drive without insurance.

Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras are already fitted in thousands of petrol station forecourts. Drivers can only fill their cars with fuel once the camera has captured and logged the vehicle’s number plate.

Currently the system is designed to deter motorists from driving off without paying for petrol. But under the new plans, the cameras will automatically cross-refererence [sic] with the DVLA’s huge database. When a car is flagged as being uninsured or untaxed, the system will prevent the fuel pump being used on that vehicle.

And of course this database will never make mistakes.

The proposals will have a huge impact – forcing drivers to insure and tax their car if they want to drive.

One in 25 drivers in the UK do not have insurance – one of the worst records in western Europe

That’s nothing. The figure in the US is one in seven. But something tells me that we don’t have anything to worry about along these lines, since the uninsured here tend to vote for the Democrat Party.

But some petrol retailers said the proposals were a “step too far” – claiming they put cashiers at risk. Brian Madderson, from RMI Petrol, which represents independent petrol stations, said: “Staff are already getting stick from motorists for high fuel prices.

“This proposal will increase the potential for conflict. Our cashiers are not law enforcers.”

What do they have to worry about? Nobody in Great Britain can own a gun.

Anyway, this is exactly how your ‘better’ tyrannies work. Everyone becomes a policeman for the government.

“Nobody in Great Britain can own a gun…” oh, you can own a gun alright. Just as long as you get permission from the police and you keep it in a locked gun locker and you keep it broken down and you store the ammo in a separate locker and you never use it to shoot someone who’s burgling your house, there’s no problem. The UK even has an Olympic pistol shooting team. Of course, they have to fly to Switzerland to practice but hey, you can’t have too much firearms safety can you?

    How uncompassionate.

They couldn’t and wouldn’t possibly use the same logic in say, public run Health coverage and access, would they?

This is being implemented in the U.S. The concern from citizens was the state selling the information of all drivers to such as Insurance Companies to better troll their customers, law enforcement, and marketing to see where a store might prosper.

This is nothing new, just another twist in the process. England is the most heavily surveilled country in the world, with the worst concentration in London. They’ve had “speeding” cameras to track when and where people may be speeding and also conveniently used to see where they go. It’s also here on some of the toll roads.

As with most things there’ll be unintended consequences; people being robbed for gasoline or just being paid to pump some into a jerry can to distribute.

Of course England is so far down the pipe that for practically any job (in addition to a health insurance number) you also have to have a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check to make sure you’re not a pedophile. Fine and dandy but any of your past employers/references could make a negative comment if they had an axe to grind, which will keep you from getting employed and you could never know what they said about you or challenge it.

I’ve known several people from England and many of them seem stuck in the “Law & Order” mentality that you have to make sure you follow all the rules to live, and it never occurs to them they don’t have to live like that, that they could use their own rational judgment rather than being told what to do.

They remind me often how “safe” England is and yes, it’s harder there to get killed with a dreaded gun, yet the incidence of petty crime (robbery and muggings) is much higher, and whatever you do don’t defend yourself. Just stand and cry help until the kindly Bobbie shows up. And for all the political correctness there’s still plenty of gang problems, class strife, and ever more people on welfare.

So it’s no surprise to me that what was once of the greatest countries on Earth is lost in doldrums, spending more time and effort on control than on creation, at least until the money all runs out.

They will use the camera’s to ration gas and fine or arrest anyone that gases up more than once a month.
They will also jail anyone not in a hybrid or electric car.
They will search anyone’s home who puts gas in a gas container to see if the have a gas powered lawnmower instead of an electric one.

Coke a Cola has changed it’s ingredients to meet California as it’s not economical to only change their formula for California only. Again, California is ruining this country.

Someone told me they had enough property and trees to warm their homes with fireplace if the government rations heat.

      Won’t work. New tree laws.
