Obama remark on black scholar’s arrest angers cops
By Associated Press Writer Melissa Trujillo July 23 2009

BOSTON – Many police officers across the country have a message for President Barack Obama: Get all the facts before criticizing one of our own.

Obama said. “No. 2, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly

On Thursday, the White House tried to calm the hubbub over Obama’s comments by saying Obama was not calling the officer stupid. Spokesman Robert Gibbs said Obama felt that “at a certain point the situation got far out of hand” at Gates’ home.

Cambridge police Commissioner Robert Haas said Obama’s comments hurt the agency.
“My reponse is that this department is deeply pained,” Haas said at a news conference Thursday. “It takes its professional pride seriously.”

the leader of this country should still recognize there are still issues in this country in regards to race,” said Lt. Charles Wilson, chairman of the National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers Inc.

Associated Press writers Karen Testa in Boston, Sarah Larimer in Miami and Solvej Schou in Los Angeles contributed to this report.

Well, prehaps there should be a “white” NAWLEO to work out the racial differences with the “black” NABLEOI for when the global president meddles.

I think the officer’s were concerned Gate’s violent behavior may be from being on a substance, and he may have retaliated against his neighbor trying to protect him and his home.

Wait til Gates drags this in court and witnesses are further threatened

Obama must miss those riots that were his prayer of muslims

  3. GetBackJack says:

Why couldn’t this guy just be civil, and show his ID and THANK Sgt Crowley for responding so quickly to a possible break-in?

    Stupid, ego-blind and insular.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

I think it’s called “hidden agenda”.

That is, if Hidden Agenda malt liquor comes in 22 oz “EZ open” cans.

  4. oki2 says:

Seems fairly straightforward to me. Nothing here to indicate racism or officer stupidity. I suppose when you are as smart as Obama it is easy to call everybody else stupid?

  5. Kytross says:

Thank you for postng this in its entirety. I’m going to let people know what actually happened.

  6. Howard Roark says:

    Let’s add up some “knowns”:
    1) Gates is a Harvard professor of humanities, making a career of Afrocentrism.
    2) He is a self-described adherent of identity politics.
    3) He has produced several PBS series on various African American subjects, including one that aired in February of this year and another soon to air.
    4) Barry’s push for socialized health care will not come before the legislature before the August recess, and when the congressmen return from it, they will be very leary of passing it as he wants it due to fear of upsetting their re-election chances in 2010.
    5) Barry is friends with Gates, and shares his attitude about the dominant race in America.
    6) Barry needs sympathy from America to stem his declining poll approval numbers, and to possibly rescue his UHC dreams after August.

Knowing all of this, it seems very possible that Barry’s venture into what should have stayed a local (non)issue concerning the Cambridge police’s arrest of a disorderly professor Gates, was nothing more than a cunning ploy to distract attention from his failed UHC bill and further attempt to both racially divide this country and garner sympathy for him as a “black man in America where the black man is still a victim.”

It also seems very possible that Gates purposely inflated the situation with officer Crowley, knowing that the attention he manufactured from it would help sell his books, dvd’s and future projects.

And perhaps unrelated is the fact that CNN aired its much-hyped “Black In America” series for the last two nights. The massive promotions and lead-in to the shows were dramatically sensationalized by featuring the breaking news of the Gates case. The reporting on the Gates case by CNN has been decidedly one-sided, and after two days officer Crowley’s side was finally aired, but has been treated as if it is too-little-too-late and completely unconvincing. The interview with Soledad O’Brien today was particularly telling of a CNN perspective.

If you have the curiosity and patience for it, I have actually chronicled the CNN segments featuring this Gates case for the last three days on my new channel at Youtube. You can survey them [labeled “CNN Watch”] at your leisure here: http://www.youtube.com/user/USArgos

When, when, when – and more importantly, how – are we ever as a nation going to get over this stupid race thing? I can remember when we had real, legalised segregation in America; it was vile and it was shameful but I can also remember how we ended it. For people like the Prof here and his friend Barry, though, nothing has changed.

Its not 2009 for them, its not even 1909 – its like 1809, and anyone who isn’t a white male landowner is in some way a slave, a chattel, a victim. This attitude is so socially corrosive, so ignorant, so wrong and such an insult to those who really were victims that you have to wonder about the motivation of those who espouse it. Actually, I don’t wonder at all. They have their agenda and this cult of victimhood is a useful tool to move it forward.

  8. Media_man says:

I’m glad I sat thru his one hour snoozefest of a sham presser just to watch him self destruct completely in the final minute with his “acted stupidly” comment. It really pulled off the mask & showed BHO to be the race pimp he is.

I remember thinking at the time this is going to really hurt him, but with the above report out in the open now, it’s devastating. BHO really stepped in it. And to think this was a carefully staged media event.

His disapproval rating will sink below 50%. And that’s before they jack up the taxes to pay for his “Crapulus” programs.

    • Liberals Demise says:

I couldn’t agree with you more. Barry pulled a Fonzie on Wednesday night. He jumped the shark tank! From now on he will never have the numbers he had before he jumped the sharks and that’s a fact!!

  9. GL0120 says:

Gates found an opportunity to be a victim and took advantage of it.
As Rush Limbaugh stated, the situation was tailor made for Gates; it allowed him to get the publicity he craved at the expense of the police officer.
This incident will promote his class at the university and I’m certain that his ranking amongst his racist peers has gone up several points.

  10. Helena says:

What a hoot. Now get a load of this, from the “current event” section of the Wikipedia article on Henry Gates:

“Gates and his attorney, Harvard colleague Charles Ogletree disputed the police report, with Gates noting that he has a bronchial infection contracted in China, which renders him incapable of yelling.[11][1]”

Hilarious. Never mind, as someone mentioned, that there are hands with tape recorders sticking into the area clearly visible in photos of the incident. Where are the audio reports, taped on the spot? He made an ass of himself and they don’t want the world to hear it.

  11. curvyred says:

“I have to say I am surprised by the controversy surrounding my statement, because I think it was a pretty straightforward commentary that you probably don’t need to handcuff a guy, a middle-aged man who uses a cane, who’s in his own home,” Obama said.

Uh-oh looks like the commander in chief is now backing away from “race” being an issue to utilizing other “victimhood” rallying cries: ageism and disability.

    • Liberals Demise says:

In a parallel world someone would have run onto the stage with a gag for the CIC (corrupter in chief).

  12. untrainable says:

The infuriating thing to me is that Obama immediatly dragged “racial profiling” into the discussion when profiling had absolutely nothing to do with this case. Obama’s racism was made apparent with his stupid comment.

Racial Profiling : the consideration of race when developing a profile of suspected criminals; by extension, a form of racism involving police focus on people of certain racial groups when seeking suspected criminals.

The officer didn’t need to profile the “criminal” HE GOT A DESCRIPTION FROM THE 911 CALL!!!!! Mr. Gates at that point was not profiled, he was in the house that was reportedly broken into, and surprise surprise… he FIT THE DESCRIPTION!!! He was in fact the one that broke into the house. So the situation was not a profiling situation, it was an identity situation. Gates figured he was too good to be questioned by some white cop, never mind the fact that that white cop came to Gates’ home to stop an alleged crime in progress.

Scream racist loud enough and you’ll get over. That is the lesson this man teaches, and he apparently walks the walk of a race baiter. The lowest kind of human being in my opinion. If anyone wants to have a talk about race relations in this country the first thing that needs to be addressed is the assumption by people who aren’t white that only white people can be racist, and that all white people ARE racist because they’re white. Isn’t that assumption in itself racist??

Professor heal thyself. Then shut up and thank the cops for putting themselves in danger for your benefit.
