‘Indians’ Want NFL Players To Reject Redskins Name

From the Politico:

Indians ask players to reject Redkins [Sic]

By LUCY MCCALMONT | May 28, 2014

After getting the support of 50 senators last week, the groups behind the push to change the Washington Redskins name are now appealing to new faces: every player in the National Football League.

Note that the Politico can’t even bring themselves to print the offensive word in their headline.

The Oneida Indian Nation and the National Congress of American Indians, which are leading the Change the Mascot campaign [sic], are sending a letter Wednesday asking the players to take a stance against the Redskins name.

Aren’t a lot of Native Americans highly offended by being called Indians? Where do we go to report the Politico’s and the Oneida tribe’s use of this hate speech?

(By the way, the Oneida tribe is insanely rich from their casinos. You can bet they are major donors to the Democrats. Which is the only reason why they get so much press.)

In addition to sending the letter to the teams, it will be tweeted directly to players with the hashtag: #rightsideofhistory.

Not the #hashtag! Nobody can stand up to the #hashtag!

“We ask that you add your powerful voice to the hundreds who are already speaking out. Because you are in the NFL, you command a level of respect and credibility when speaking out about the league’s behavior,” the letter read, adding that players’ support “is critical to ending this injustice.” …

The letter, signed by 77 organizations, including the NAACP, follows news last week of another letter signed by 50 senators urging the NFL to support changing the Redskins name.

In typical fashion, no Republicans in the Senate were given an opportunity to sign this letter. (McCain and others wanted to.) But this isn’t about politics. It’s about… Er…

    Hail to the Redskins!
    Hail Victory!
    Braves on the Warpath!
    Fight for old D.C.!
Run or pass and score — we want a lot more!
    Beat ’em, Swamp ’em,
Touchdown! — Let the points soar!
Fight on, fight on ‘Til you have won
Sons of Wash-ing-ton. Rah!, Rah!, Rah!
    Hail to the Redskins!
    Hail Victory!
    Braves on the Warpath!
    Fight for old D.C.!

The previous lyrics (1962 to ’80s) were:

    Hail to the Redskins!
    Hail, victory!
    Braves on the warpath!
    Fight for Old D.C.!
    Scalp ’em, swamp ‘um
We will take ‘um big score
    Read ‘um, Weep ‘um, touchdown
    We want heap more
Fight on, fight on, till you have won
    Sons of Washington
    Rah! Rah! Rah!

I’m guessing they took out “Scalp ’em, swamp ‘um” because white people complained

If you’d like to hear the Redskins team song hear it is

Scalping was ironically started by white settlers. There was a bounty on Native Americans and scalps were turned in as proof you killed them. The Natives then started the practice as retribution, often scalping people while they were still alive. While the name redskin is not really offensive, unless you are an idiot, I can see people taking umbrage bring up scalping.

  2. Petronius says:

Sorry to tell you Banned, but the idea that scalping originated with the English settlers is a Liberal hoax. It was quite the other way around, as the English victims learned scalping from their Indian tormentors, who were, after all, a Stone Age people with savage customs.

We know this from numerous contemporaneous sources, such as the Heroism of Hannah Duston, the Draper Manuscripts, the histories of the Indian Wars on the New England Frontier, Opechancanough’s Uprising, pre-Columbian archeological finds, etc.

European warriors (ancient Greeks, Romans, Franks, Saxons, Vikings, Spanish, et al.) customarily took weapons and armor as war trophies, not body parts.

The old Liberal canards about Spanish conquistadors and English pioneers practicing germ warfare are another load of rubbish. These false stories are spread out of sheer hatefulness and anti-white racism.

An email sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.

    Dear Mr. Page…

I always love your articles. and I generally agree with them. I would suggest they change the name to the “Foreskins” to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick heads in Congress.

Here are some other politically correctness to consider: I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward. Let’s ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60’s alive. Gone. It’s offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men’s lives.

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children.

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children.

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children.

The Milwaukee Brewers—well that goes without saying . . . Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the do-nothing congress loves . . .

As a die hard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women’s athletic teams to something other than “the Beavers.”

Of course, everything liberals do is “historic” now-a-days, which is another shield to deflect attention away from liberalism.

Gays always say, “You are on the wrong side of history!” Of course, if Republicans had a brain, they would have jumped on this right away and sent out the counter-meme as such: “Listen, the reason we HAVE a history is because heterosexuals have generations of children. Check you history, and see how many generations of people have condemned it.”

Another comeback: “Why are Indians allowed to protest on non-reservation land? Are we allowed to go there and protest them?”

    Have the people spoken?
