Invocation Drops ‘God,’ Blesses Next President

From the Politico:

Inauguration 2013: Inaugural prayer drops ‘under God’

By KEVIN ROBILLARD | January 21, 2013

Civil rights legend Myrlie Evers-Williams on Monday quoted the Pledge of Allegiance during her invocation at President Barack Obama’s second Inauguration without saying “under God” but mentioned God and Jesus throughout the prayer.

For the record, Mr. Obama has dropped references to God from his quotes numerous times. For example, Obama has dropped all direct references to God from his Thanksgiving address for four years in a row.

“We now stand beneath the shadow of the nation’s capital, whose golden dome reflects the unity and democracy of one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” Evers-Williams said.

While Evers-Williams didn’t say “under God,” her speech had multiple references to God, the “almighty” and to Jesus Christ.

Apparently, the Politico thought they had better mention this twice.

Evers-Williams is the widow of Medgar Evers, a Mississippi civil rights activist who was murdered in 1963…. She also served as a chairwoman of the NAACP.

In case you think this might just be an insignificant accident, there is this from CNN:

Obama ends oath with ‘So help me God’

By Bill Mears, CNN Supreme Court Producer | Mon January 21, 2013

Washington (CNN) — At his request, President Barack Obama is ending his inaugural oath with: "So help me God." Those four words are not legally or constitutionally required, unlike other federal oaths that invoke them as standard procedure.

Historians have wrangled over whether George Washington established precedent by adding the phrase on his own during his first Inaugural acceptance, but the Library of Congress website states he did…

Naturally, several activist atheist groups have sought to get Obama to drop the phrase. So it is somewhat newsworthy that he did not drop it. In fact, some might argue that this was even in poor taste, after Obama swore to uphold the Constitution, which seems like obvious perjury.

Even so, if this omission was an accident, it wasn’t Ms. Evers-Williams’ only mistake.

From the Agence France Presse:

Obama’s successor blessed in ceremony mix-up

21 January 2013

AFP – If it all goes wrong for President Barack Obama in his second term we will know who to blame: civil rights icon Myrlie Evers-Williams, who blessed his successor, the 45th president, by mistake.

"America, we are here, our nation’s capital, on this day, January the 21st, 2013, the inauguration of our 45th president, Barack Obama," said Evers-Williams, the widow of slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers.

Unfortunately for 79-year-old Evers-Williams, a distinguished scholar [sic] at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi, Obama is actually the 44th president and stays that way even after winning a second term…

Of course, if anything goes wrong for Obama in his second term he will just blame number 43, George Bush. Just like he did in his first term.

The Emperor has undergone a metamorphosis.

    He has become a god.

So when he ends his oath, “So help me God,” he is actually saying, “So help me me.”

Henceforth he will be referred to as the divine Nerobama, or Nerobama maximus, or Jupiter, or Zeus.

By the way, the Empress Armtonia, Sasha, Malaria, and Mrs. Robinson have become goddesses, too.

And the White House will be called Mount Olympus.
