Iran Gives US Reporter 8 Years For Spying

From an understanding Associated Press:

Iran Convicts U.S. Journalist, Lawyer Says

April 18, 2009

TEHRAN, Iran — An American journalist jailed in Iran has been convicted of spying and sentenced to eight years in prison, her lawyer said Saturday, dashing any hopes for her quick release…

She appeared before an Iranian court behind closed doors on Monday in an unusually swift one-day trial. The Fargo, N.D., native had been living in Iran for six years and had worked as a free-lance reporter for several news organizations including National Public Radio and the British Broadcasting Corp….

Iran has released few details about the charges against Ms. Saberi. Iranian officials initially said she had been arrested for working in the Islamic Republic without press credentials and she had told her father in a phone conversation that she was arrested after buying a bottle of wine.

An Iranian investigative judge involved in the case charged that Ms. Saberi was passing classified information to U.S. intelligence services…

Ms. Saberi worked for NPR, the BBC and even Al Gore, and yet the Iranians consider her a possible ally of the United States?

It just shows you how out of touch Mr. Ahmadinejad’s administration is.

It also shows the inroads that Mr. Obama’s charm offensive has made with the Iranian regime.

(And speaking of charm, Ms. Saberi was crowned Miss North Dakota in 1997.)

But the real important question is: “So how’d she do in the swimsuit competition?”

I lived in Fargo during the 90s and I don’t think I would ever forget meeting her.
      ME———OW kitty kitty!!

Too bad you got caught spying for NPR…….what a worthless bunch of nitwits and commies!!

Open question, will OSoros do anything about this…..or does he approve of it?

  3. GuppyNblue says:

Is it possible she was taken because she’s so beautiful? None of the hideous code pinkos were taken during their visit. Or do they resent her because she is an Iranian American – that wouldn’t be uncommon. And there’s the chance that she was spying. Perhaps associating with some of the more pro-western Iranian youth.

Between the Iranian government and our media, we may never know the truth.

Obama was too busy in bed with Iranian’s leader who hides in the closet. Both can keep a secret.

News flash, 1979, Iran takes Americans hostage. What part of “What the heck is a rational American doing in Iran anyway?” didn’t Ms Saberi understand?

She still has her head attached to her body, what’s the question?

  6. jrmcdonald says:

Who wants to bet this becomes a big un-story in the MSM?

A beautiful liberal is stolen? Well, I doubt it had to do with spying since the only spying NPR is going to do is for our enemies. I think this one was just too good to let go.

Perhaps one (or many) of her “heroes” in the opposition educated her on why the rest of us “potential domestic terrorists” are against them. Maybe, if she survives, she will help educate the rest of her colleagues on our position.

God help her. I hate it happened. Unfortunately, it takes an upfront and personal experience for some of these idiots to learn. No doubt she thought she was among comrades! Indeed, she would have been, if she looked like the DHS Secretary or Hillary.

She’ll probably be raped and tortured to death in prison, like that Canadian journalist sent to Evin prison in 2003. Or used as a bargaining chip (hostage) for later “negotiations.” The only thing Iran has changed since the 1979 revolution is the number of interviews they give on Larry King Live.

Several articles said that Saberi had been in Iran with the goal of learning about cultural exchanges and fostering mutual culture respect. Guess the Iranians are showing their respect for P.C. multiculturalism and the West in general.

Surely the white house will have some big, angry-yet-somewhat-apologetic words for this one…..

I can see it now……..The One strikes a pose with his index finger extended into a point. “There…..that will teach ’em to mess with the U.S..”

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

Doesn’t Obama kind of remind you of Senator Palpatine in Star Wars?

Noted today that Hitlery said that “Iran’s claims against her are entirely baseless”.

This worries me. For who should know more about “baseless claims against her” than ….well….Hitlery.

I sure hope Iran doesn’t listen to her.
