Iran Hangs Soccer Star’s ‘Temporary Wife’

From Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency:

Shahla Jahed is executed

Tehran, Dec 1, IRNA, — Shahla Jahed, a woman who had killed another woman in Tehran 9 years ago, was hanged in Evin Prison this morning.

The killed woman, Laleh Saharkhiza, was the wife of a well-known Iranian football player and the case received an extensive publicity in Iran.

Jahed’s lawyer, Abdosamad Khorramshahi told IRNA that his client’s conviction to death was confirmed by the Judiciary and she was hanged on Wednesday early morning.

The murderer’s family had tried to pursuade [sic] the killed woman’s family to pardon Jahed but their efforts failed.

This article is from a Google cache of the IRNA site. It has since been removed from their website.

By the way, the UK’s Telegraph points out some details that the IRNA article neglects to mention:

Former Iran football player’s mistress hanged

December 1, 2010

Shahla Jahed was hanged at dawn, after spending more than eight years in jail, according to Iranian media, in a case that has captivated the Iranian public for several years.

Jahed had become what is known as a "temporary wife" of former football player Nasser Mohammad Khani. She was charged in 2002 with stabbing to death Laleh Saharkhizan, the player’s wife, and convicted of murder in 2004 and again in 2009, after her appeal was denied.

Contracts with "temporary wives" are a legal way for Iranian men to have mistresses outside marriage, with the agreements lasting from between several hours to a few years.

Wednesday’s death sentence was based on the Islamic law of "qisas" – or eye for an eye retribution

The IRNA report said that just before the hanging at Tehran’s Evin prison, the 40-year-old Jahed prayed peacefully, then burst into tears and cries, shouting for her life to be spared.

The victim’s son pulled the chair from under her feet. Mr Khani also attended the hanging

The reports also said that judiciary officials spent almost an hour in talks with Saharkhizan’s family before the hanging, trying to convince them to spare Jahed’s life but were unsuccessful.

Under Iranian law, men and women can commit to a "temporary marriage" for an agreed period of time after a certain amount of money is paid to the woman.

In Iran, men are allowed up to four legal wives under Islam and any number of temporary wives. Women can only be married to one man at a time

And to think the benighted denizens of Oklahoma have foolishly sought to deny themselves the blessings of Sharia law. Just look what they would be passing up, if it weren’t for an enlightened Clinton-appointed federal judge.

While I don’t believe hanging is proper punishment for adultery, I am impressed that it only took 8 years to carry out the sentence. In the US it would have take 20+ years for a murder. Maybe Sharia has its good points.

Wow – this guy must be jumping for joy – two women gone forever – and he is FREE to start all over again.

True, but really no need for that, since under Moose Limb law he can have 4 wives and any number of temporary wives.

So guess that’s why he attended his temporary wife’s hanging. He was outraged that she killed his full time wife.

I think it’s sweet how the victims son was able to pull the chair out from under his dad’s temporary wife and watch her die.

The foolish people of Oklahoma should have just said no law but US and Oklahoma State law shall be used in Oklahoma.

    Problem solved.

Yes, that sharia law….Moving ahead to yesteryear.

Steve Steve Steve, you’ve got to quit doing this …. stealing your readers comments before we can get there. :-)

Sung to Oklahoma (Rogers and Hammerstein) –

Oklahoma, where the Muslim comes sweepin’ down the plain
And burqua’ feet can sure smell sweet
When the Koran comes right before the noose.
Oklahoma, Ev’ry night my favorite goat and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a drone
Makin’ lazy circles in the sky.

    Or, something like that.

Instead of adopting Sharia Law why don’t we just go back to not allowing women the right to do anything. This way the Muslims won’t get all that upset over not being ruled by Sharia Law because the way I see it they like these laws to be able to do to women whatever they want. Just start by repealing the 19th Amendment.

I believe “temporary wife” is the Islamic code word for “booty call.”

As for famous sports stars who cheat, can you imagine if this happened to American players? Would anyone consider it moral if Tiger Woods carted around a mullah to various hotel rooms to “sanctify” his temporary marriages with escorts, sometimes two at a time?

Iran complains that sex outside of marriage contributes to STD transmission – but how many diseases get passed around in their state-run whore houses? How many unsuspecting first wives are infected by their Muslim husbands?

I wonder if those “chastity houses” come with dance music and disco lighting…
