Iran Has Own Video About Hormuz Incident
From the terrorists at Iran’s Press TV:
Iran releases footage of PG naval check
Thu, 10 Jan 2008
Iran releases the video of Sunday’s maritime identification check in the Persian Gulf waters involving Iranian boats and US warships.
Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says the US-released footage of the incident is fabricated and the audio of it is fake.
Brigadier General Ali Fadavi, an IRGC senior official, has said that the US vessels’ registration numbers had been unreadable to the Iranian guards.
He added that the guards approached the US ships only to examine the numbers.
The Iranian footage also includes the original radio communication between the Iranian guards and the US warship.
Remember the faked video that Iran did of a supposed submarine missile test?
Iran could give Reuters a run for their money.

Iranian: “Warship seventy-three? Request permission to dine with the captain and crew. Over.”
Commander of warship seventy-three: “Permission granted. Got a nice pot of goat’s head soup cookin’ up for you fella’s to pick on. Over.”

Yes, the U.S. markings, American flags, shape and size of the ships was entirely inconsequential; the Iranians couldn’t read the ships’ registration numbers.
Wow.
I can’t wait for Putin to claim that his MiGs had to buzz our F-18s was because they couldn’t quite make out the planes’ tail numbers…

I just wish we would quit saying they harrassed us. The party being harrassed is usually the weaker of the two. It’s more like a gnat buzzing a giant elephant and we need to say so. I’m assuming this really is video the Iranians shot although they are really stupid because their own video confirms what we have already said. However, what disturbed me about their video is the orientation of the forward guns on our ships. They were not trained on the boat taking the video and appeard not to be trained on any of the boats. I’m very concerned about our response on the scene. Had these been boats loaded with explosives and martyrs, it could have been very ugly.

WI, I could be wrong, (nawww…) but that close in, I don’t think those 5-inchers will depress low enough to engage small craft like that -hence all the 25mm’s and .50’s that are carried -Joe or skc can correct me if that’s not the case.
Plus, on the USN video, you can see a merchant ship in the background at one point -probably a tanker.
Maybe the Navy has to worry about their “backstop” the way a street cop does.

dw, you arent wrong, but the 76mm gun on the destroyer could depress to get those craft. it can depress 15 degrees below the horizon, and take shots as close as 250 yards. easily shredding the iranian craft if they wanted to. They were ordered not to. Pussy politics again.

sj & DW…..hey I never claimed to be a real sailor. But you’re right I now know by doing a little background search. However, my weapon of choice, .50 cal, would have taken care of the problem…..if only someone was allowed to fire it. sj is right, pussy politics that put our sailors in harm’s way for no good reason.

I suppose for fun and entertainment they could try using a good old-fashioned depth charge thrower and a supply of dead 300 lb pigs -see if you could lob one into the speed boat.
Doesn’t harm the environment and it won’t make the tanker guys on the horizon nervous.

How about live pigs with moohammed masks on them DW?
Naaw, PETA would have a hissy-fit. ;o)

I’d say that the ships Phalanx CIWS mounts in surface mode would have made short work of those boats and their crews. It would have looked like someone went a little overboard with the chum while fishing.

Where is John Kerry in this video?!? Did I miss something? ROFLMAO

LMGS you are correct. The Phalanx system is designed as an antimissle weapon. The are radar controlled so they lock onto a target. Here’s a link to more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phalanx_CIWS
And yes those boats would have been minnow bait if engaged.

Thanks for that link, skc. I didn’t realize those things could be used on (relatively) slow moving surface targets.
It’d definitely be better to give than receive!

DW & SKC…..there has to be a “closing rate” of a certain speed and I don’t know what that speed is. Probably classified.

According to the article WI, the newest versions have a FLIR (Forward Looking InfraRed) so that they can be targeted on small boats, divers, dolphins, Michael Moore in a speedo, whatever might constitute a threat…

Thank you DW….I was just too lazy today to read the info….lol.
January 11th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Well, WI, we try to keep you informed on these things since you said you weren’t a “real sailor” but a CB’er or something like that…is that like a truck driver ?
(uh oh! dive! dive! dive!)
January 11th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Ohhhhhhhhh….but if you consider a D-5 CAT a truck, then I guess I qualify. They take care of anarchists war protesters nicely also.
January 11th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
OK you win. The only CAT’s I’m used to are 936’s and one ancient 930 -and it’s generally the forklift special olympics when I’m running one.
