Iran Has Second Covert Nuclear Facility

From an unfazed New York Times:

Iran Said to Have Covert Nuclear Facility

September 26, 2009

PITTSBURGH — President Obama and the leaders of Britain and France will accuse Iran Friday of building a secret underground plant to manufacture nuclear fuel, saying the country has hidden the covert operation from international weapons inspectors for years, according to senior administration officials

American officials said that they had been tracking the covert project for years, but that Mr. Obama decided to make public the American findings after Iran discovered, in recent weeks, that Western intelligence agencies had breached the secrecy surrounding the project. On Monday, Iran wrote a brief, cryptic letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency, saying that it now had a “pilot plant” under construction, whose existence it had never before revealed.

In a statement from its headquarters in Vienna on Friday, the atomic agency confirmed that it had been told Monday by Iran that “a new pilot fuel enrichment plant is under construction in the country.”

The agency said it had requested more information about the plant and access to it as soon as possible. “The agency also understands from Iran that no nuclear material has been introduced into the facility,” said the statement said.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said nothing about the plant during his visit this week to the United Nations, where he repeated his contention that Iran had cooperated fully with inspectors, and that allegations of a nuclear weapons program are fabrications.

The newly discovered enrichment plant is not yet in operation, American officials said, but could be next year…

France’s Agence France-Pressee is reporting this development somewhat differently:

Iran admits to having second enrichment plant: IAEA

by Simon Morgan

VIENNA (AFP) – Iran has admitted to building a second uranium enrichment plant, just days before it meets six world powers for talks on its disputed atomic drive, the UN atomic watchdog said Friday.

"On September 21, Iran informed the IAEA in a letter that a new pilot fuel enrichment plant is under construction in the country," International Atomic Energy Agency spokesman Marc Vidricaire said in a statement…

Just a day earlier, Iran’s exiled opposition movement, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, said it had learned of two previously unknown sites in and near Tehran that are being used to build nuclear warheads.

No nuclear material has yet been introduced into the new enrichment plant under construction, the IAEA said Friday…

"Iran assured the agency in the letter that ‘further complementary informatio [sic] will be provided in an appropriate and due time’," Vidricaire said…

So far, Iran has been known to have only one uranium enrichment plant in operation, in Natanz…

The existence of Natanz, too, was long concealed by Iran, until the National Council of Resistance of Iran blew the whistle in 2002.

The IAEA was not able to provide information about how long the second site has been under construction or how long ago it was planned

According to the NCRI, there are two previously unknown sites in and near Tehran that are being used to build nuclear warheads.

The opposition group claimed the secret sites belonged to a unit linked to the defence ministry and called Research Centre for the Technology of Explosion and Impact, known as METFAZ.

The centre has a research unit, a production unit and a test unit and its command center was in a building in eastern Tehran.

The second site, surrounded by high concrete walls, is near the village of Sanjarian to the east of the capital, the NCRI said.

The IAEA said it was looking into the opposition group’s claims.

Note that according to the AFP it was the opposition group, the National Council of Resistance of Iran who forced Iran to admit they had this second nuclear facility. (Just as it has been the NCRI who had uncovered Iran’s first facility in Natanz.)

It wasn’t the Obama administration at all.

But that point aside, look at how laughable this makes the UN’s nuclear ‘watchdogs’ the IAEA once again. They were as completely clueless about this second nuclear plant as they were the first one.

What do they do for their lavish salaries?

And why should we put the fate of our nation and the rest of the world in their incompetent hands?

By the way, as we noted at the time, the National Council of Resistance of Iran is the very same group that disputed the National Intelligence Estimate in 2007, that claimed Iran had ended their pursuit for a nuclear bomb.

Seems like just yesterday the NIE told us we had nothing to worry about, http://sweetness-light.com/archive/democrats-pounce-on-nies-iran-report.

But just remember, the are only hiding their activities because the evil Zionist west is trying to styme their attempts at peaceful nuclear technologies.

What’s Nanci Pelosi got to say about this? I’m sure she’s shocked!

The facility is near the “holy city” of Qom, which must be in desperate need of nuclear energy. It may be the “holiest city”, sharing that glory with Mashad.

Isn’t it interesting that the Mullah’s would place it there, them being so godly and all.

It sure looks like Israel will have to “do” Iran within the next couple months because the rest of the world, including the weakazz Obama administration, have no balls. All Obama wants to do is tell Israel to quit building in the Gaza strip. Heck, Palistenians breed like rats and are running out of land (that is not theirs anyway) to live on.

Heard they were ordered to disburse because they didn’t have a permit.

So…how does that work, exactly? I thought citizens were allowed the right to assemble and protest without government interference? Oh, yeah….Piss-burgh. What was I thinking? They weren’t pushing a union agenda.

Without the threat of war, third world despots know they can simply stall and feign diplomacy until they accumulate nuclear weapons.

Israel should hit Iran’s nuclear facilities and end it…if our country does not shoot down the planes as they come over Iraq, as one Obama administration official recommended as a hypothetical response.

Obama’s complacency is going to make the proliferation of nuclear weapons WORSE in the world, though not among first world countries such as ourselves where he is promoting disarmament…but among third world cesspools with irrational, power hungry governments that lack regard for human life. It is far more dangerous to have 10 nukes in the arms of Ahmadinejad than to have 100 in the U.K. It is far more dangerous to have adversaries poised on the brink of nuclear war than a one-sided conflict to destroy another country’s nuclear facilities.

How long until a third World War occurs utilizing nuclear weapons that this administration allowed to proliferate due to lack of action? “Tough talk” means dog piss to a dictator.

Well it’s a good thing Obama told the UN just a few days ago the USA would not act unilaterally, and how bad it was for America to meddle in the internal affairs of other countries.

I feel safer because of what Obama said, don’t you?

    Which day?

Does it matter he didn’t mean it anyway.

Headline: Obama Says Iran Must ‘Come Clean’ on Nuclear Program or Face Continued Finger-wagging

  14. BillK says:

Wow, Iran had really better stop with this reckless course of action or they’re going to receive a strongly worded letter from the UN. Perhaps they’ll even get a mark on their permanent record!

Or the thing Mr. Obama is either too stupid or too blind to see is that the major powers can feel free to live in a world “free of nuclear weapons” but any nation capable of enriching Plutonium can feel free not to play by the rules.

As Israel well knows, once Iran explodes their first test weapon, neither the US nor Israel can say anything about what they decide to do.

Why do you think the Russians have been so keen to help them? They couldn’t give a damn about Israel one way or another, but another country that joins them in targeting the US with nuclear weapons gives them a step up in the world.
