Interesting note: The article refers to “hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.”

They didn’t bother calling him conservative this time. I guess that means they’re sure either
a) the riots and protests are under control and there’s no chance of democracy breaking out any time soon.
b) the western public has gone back to sleep on the issue.

I’m still talking to people about this issue. There will be democracy in Iran. The only question is when.

There is a name for what this statement from LibCynic represents: Bigotry.

Bush believed in the Muslim world’s yearning for democracy. We see it in Iran. We see the democratic impulse flowering in Iraq and Lebanon.

Everyone deserves democracy.

But I am glad that you wrote these sentences above, LybCynic. You revealed what is really at the heart of liberal anti-war arguments–snobbery: contempt, arrogance, racism, self-righteousness with no basis.

“without the consent of the American People?” So you went to public school where they didn’t teach civics? We have representatives and senators that voted to invade Iraq and take out Hussein. Neither do you. Here’s the deal kos kid, your hero Clinton believed it, as did Tony Blair and as it turns out old Hussein did tell whoppers that for whatever reason the CIA or MI 6 never picked up on because he wanted to “scare” Iran.
Who said we’re sending our troops over there? No one. All these folks would like is for some verbal support. Did we send troops to Poland in the early 80’s? No, but Reagan gave encouragement along with John Paul II and Lady Thatcher. Is Poland still an appendage to Russia? No, and we didn’t send our most precious treasure (of which I was one at that time) to Poland. But I don’t expect you to figure that out. You’re so full of hate.

Do you define democracy as overthrowing a foreign government based on false pretenses and misinformation without the consent of the American People? Tell me again why we invaded Iraq?
