Iran Denounces Obama’s ‘Cowboy Talk’

An irony alert from the UK’s Telegraph:

Wearing a white shroud, indicating her readiness for martyrdom, and writing in Arabic that reads: ‘death to Israel, death to US’, an Iranian woman holds a poster of Lebanese Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, and a placard showing Jerusalem’s Dome of Rock, as she attends an anti-Israeli demonstration in Tehran, Iran, Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. Thousands of Iranians stage demonstrations to protest Israel of the consequences of the ongoing siege of the militant Hamas-run Gaza Strip..

Iran accuses Barack Obama of ‘cowboy talk’

Iran’s conservative parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani has branded US President-Elect Barack Obama’s comments on Tehran’s nuclear activities as “cowboy” talk, the ISNA news agency reported.

11 Dec 2008

“These comments resemble those of old American cowboys. If you have something to say about (Iran’s) nuclear issue, just say so. Why wave a stick,” asked Mr Larijani, in a speech in Qazvin province.

“The new US president has said he wants to pressure Iran since it seeks to produce atomic weapons and because it supports the terrorists like Hamas and Hizbollah,” he added.

“We are proud of supporting Hizbollah since they are defending their homeland and you are wrong in calling them terrorists.”

Iran is a staunch supporter of the Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese militant group Hizbollah.

In an interview broadcast on Sunday, Mr Obama vowed “tough but direct diplomacy” with Iran, offering incentives along with the threat of tougher sanctions over its atomic programme.

As president from January 20, Mr Obama said he would make clear to Tehran that the nuclear program was “unacceptable,” along with support of Hamas and Hizbollah and its “threats against Israel.”

Mr Obama, whose offer of direct talks with Iran represents a break with three decades of US foreign policy, promised a “set of carrots and sticks in changing their calculus about how they want to operate.”

Three days ago, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Hassan Ghashghavi said “the carrot and stick approach has proven to be useless.”

Interestingly, the “cowboy” reference doesn’t appear in the English version of this story at ISNA:

Larijani criticizes Islamic countries’ silence over Gaza crisis

TEHRAN, Dec. 12 (ISNA)-Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said some Arab countries’ silence towards crimes in Gaza Strip is harmful for their nations since their people will act differently towards the issue.

Political and religious elites are setting up protests against Israel’s crimes in that region and if Arab countries keep silence on the matter, they have in a way shown their illegitimacy, he told ISNA reporter.

Larijani also said what is happening in Gaza Strip has been devised a few months ago and seeks several goals including displacing a large number of Palestinians and making the future condition unpredictable for the US.

He criticized those Islamic countries which took part at Interfaith Dialogue conference in the US and said the conference only brought the seizer for one and a half million people in Gaza Strip with no food, water or power.

The participants sold themselves at a very low price; he said adding they must not regard Palestine as a nation which can be satisfied so easily.

Addressing the US, Larijani said “you may seize one and half million Palestinians today, but this is a shameful act for you; Palestinians are resisting against you; this is you that speak of human rights and should say why have you surrounded the area?”

He also addressed Islamic countries and said “you must feel chagrined that Palestine is under the blockade while your fund can help the US get rid of the economic downturn; your disgraceful act will remain in the history forever.”

Israel has tightened its blockade over Gaza Strip since October 5th banning the entrance of sufficient food, medicine and water into the area.

The UN human rights groups have raised concerns on the humanitarian conditions in the region and called for Israel to lift the seizer.

Elsewhere as to the remarks of the US President-elect Barack Obama who has said the US gets tough on Iran because of its pursuit for nuclear weapons and supports for Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists, Larijani said “we need to tell them that we are proud to back Hezbollah which defends its beliefs and territory, you have chosen a wrong way by calling Hezbollah terrorist.”

He also described Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah as a most popular religious leader in the Islamic countries and said in every Islamic country “you will see the picture of Nasrallah as a great leader.”

Obama has called for exerting more pressures against Iran to cause unemployment and inflation in the country and said the US should focus on stick policy against Iran, the Parliament Speaker said.

Larijani criticized the US officials’ tune regarding Iran and said such a tune is not appropriate for a cultured and civilized nation of Iran.

He then called for them to declare their views expressively but not through force and in terms of stick policy.

Iranian nation remains steadfast over its goals and words and will give a negative answer to US objectives, he added.

Also concerning the US secretary of State’s comments that there is a large dissatisfaction in Iran on its current condition, Larijani said “they want to portray Iran’s condition as a black and undesirable one to keep on with their tyranny.”

Still, it’s hard to see how electing someone with the middle name of Hussein has changed the attitude in the Muslim world,, as was promised.

And calling Mr. Obama a “cowboy” is really a low blow.

Leftist media has managed to put a negative connotation on the word cowboy. For them it seems to mean any American that would stand up and defend our nation.
IMO if a real cowboy were POTUS, Iran wouldn’t be a problem right now. No problem at all.

  2. JohnMG says:

I’m a cowboy, and I’m pissed!! Calling that twinkie, Obama, a cowboy is an insult to all the genuine articles of cowboy-dom.

….”Larijani criticized the US officials’ tune regarding Iran and said such a tune is not appropriate for a cultured and civilized nation of Iran….”

This made wonder if I wasn’t listening to a SNL skit…..unless what takes place in Iran passes for culture and civilization. When these idiots start buying and using toilet paper instead of their left hand, then maybe we can talk culture and civilization!

  3. Barbie says:

I’m just grateful Obama wasn’t a wimp and tried to resolve this crisis by offering a big group hug …

  4. Barbie says:

p.s. Obama would be kinda cute in a cowboy hat and spurs…

  5. 12 Gauge Rage says:

The Iranians are outraged at us for criticizing them because they regard themselves as cultured and civilized? What hypocrisy! Until they stop parading down the streets of Tehran pumping their fists in the air and shouting ‘Death to America! Death to Israel!’ Nobody will ever regard them as civilized.

  6. Liberals Demise says:

Cowboys carry saddlebags………obamy will NEVER give up his purth and the spurs will run his nylons!!
Obama a cowboy …..thats a slap in the face of REAL AMERICANS and we don’t have to take that crap from camel fornicaters!! IRAN….SIT STILL…..you are soon to be BUM RUSHED and STAMPEDED by the civil world over your total arrogance of REAL WORLD LAW!! May the Star of David scorch your a$$!!

  7. Barbie says:

How much civil is left in the civil world? In this country alone we’ve MANY people who think a nuclear armed Iran is perfectly acceptable and means no harm whatsoever to Israel, despite the fact this same soon to be nuclear-armed Iran has repeatedly threatened to wipe it (Israel) off the face of the earth. THe UN is its usual totally impotent self and threatens sanction after sanction on Iran (which I understand really makes them quake in their boots or shoes or sandals or whatever…). It seems obvious this situation has to escalate to a conclusion before Jan. 20th because once Bambi takes office, the rest of the world is in danger of being annihilated (sp?) by an undeterred nuclear Iran… Iran is not cultured, it is not civilized, it is a danger…

  8. Liberals Demise says:

With our help or without it….the Israelis will do what has to be done. It is their survival that depends on it!! I wouldn’t let a blue helmet watch my fence line, all 600ft. of it. It is my prediction that before Bush leaves, the Star of David will screech across the skies of Iran and do what the world won’t!! Diplomacy at its best!! Enough talk……

  9. 12 Gauge Rage says:

When the Israelis finally exhaust their patience with Iran and take decisive action there will be the usual outrage from the surrounding Islamic nations but inwardly they will breath a collective sigh of relief. They can deny having this mindset but it’s pretty much the same as when the Israeli air force bombed Saddam Hussein’s nuclear reactor in Osirik back in the early 80’s.

  10. zerstreutphilo says:

CORRECTION: In the picture above, the post that is carried by the woman is not written in Arabic, as you have stated; it is in Persian (Farsi). Also, most of these comments show that still many people think like Bush and seem to be supportive of his foreign-policy, although the Bush era is over. A comment speaks of toilet habits; but the Iranians generally think that it is cleaner to use their left hand and completely wash their a$$ than be like a Westerners walking around with a shitty a$$.

  11. amicsgirl says:

I have to agree with 12 gauge. The Egyptian President has had a falling out with Iran and in the end the world itself will breath a sigh of relief. The country is too unstable and now with Pakistan having problems there is just too much of a risk of a terrorist group getting their hands on one. The Israeli’s have every right to protect themselves and it will be interesting to see how our wonderful media reacts when Obama sits on the side-lines and doesn’t react. I mean thats what he does when things get out of hand. right? Our wonderfully stoic PEOTUS. Definately wouldnt want to get his hands “dirty” with all this Middle East business.

  12. Gila Monster says:

“The new US president has said he wants to pressure Iran since it seeks to produce atomic weapons and because it supports the terrorists like Hamas and Hizbollah,” he added.

Perhaps I am mistaken but didn’t IAEA Chief ElBaradei recently assure the world that Iran is NOT pursuing weapons with their nuclear program? They need nuclear energy because Iran has no other way to produce electricity, right?

So why is “The Chosen One” waving his fake tater stick around?

I can see the NY Times headline now, “Obama lied, people died”, ………yeah, right. ;o)

  13. Liberals Demise says:

zersteutphilo…..you have a problem typing potty mouth!!
You type shitty…..but you are afraid to type “ASS” (a$$)
You should have typed, “…..walking around with a “shiitey A$$” or “a poopy a$$”.
See the difference? No need to be afraid if you are going to use “potty mouth” lingo in this area.
Now repeat after me,”blah blah blah ……completely wash their ass than be like a Westerners walking around with a shitty “ass”. There…. feel better? Now go wash your mouth out with soap!!

The larger question of course, is why the Palestinians continue to waste their lives and destroy their future and their childrens’ futures fighting about a tiny bit of land, and not starting businesses and making good lives for themselves where they are? It’s not for lack of resources – the whole world would be only too happy to help them (as in fact it already does) but they continue to behave like psychopaths, spending all their energies in making themselves miserable. It’s the fault of their leaders, like Arafat and now Nasrallah, whose power depends on the people being angry and poor forever, so they keep telling the people that they can never be successful until they control the whole area. That’s very childish thinking. They have everything the Israelis have: arable land, seaports, trading partners, etc., but all their money and energy goes into digging tunnels, buying bombs and planning attacks, instead of setting up schools (and not jihad schools) and industries. Until the Palestinian people get smart, and start building up their own country, they will continue in their miserable existence.

By the way, interesting name – zerstreut = scattered (in the sense of diaspora?), also scatterbrained + philo = lover of. So – lover of those who have been scattered? Lover of scatterbrains?

  16. 12 Gauge Rage says:

You forgot to mention the words of the late Israeli prime minister Golda Meier, “There will never be peace until the Palestinians learn to love their children more than they hate us.’ True loving parents don’t sacrifice their children to vent their hatred towards another race of people. The time is long overdue for Palestinian parents to tell these Hamas and Hezbollah monsters that their children are too precious to be sacrificed as tools for terror.

Cowboy talk? From Obama? He couldn’t pronounce Yippie Kai Yay.
Hey! John McClane for President! Yippy Kai Yay…… well, you know the rest.
